A program for remote computer control. How to set up remote access to a computer: three easy ways. The principle of remote computer control

A situation often arises when you need to connect to a remote computer from a phone or PC in order to perform any actions there. This is a very useful feature if, for example, you need to transfer documents from your home computer while you are at work. In today's article, we will show you how to set up remote access for different versions operating system Windows.

There is far from one way to connect to another computer. For these purposes, you can use both additional software and refer only to the system tools. You will learn about both options and choose the one that suits your liking.

Attention!
The prerequisites for creating a remote connection to a computer are:

  • A password is set on the PC to which they are connected;
  • The computer must be turned on;
  • Both devices have an up-to-date version of the network software;
  • A stable internet connection on two computers.

Remote access on Windows XP

Remote control of a computer on Windows XP can be enabled using third-party software, as well as standard tools. The only important aspect is that the OS version should only be Professional. To configure access, you need to know the IP of the second device and the password, and you also need to configure both PCs in advance. Depending on the account from which you logged in, your options will also be determined.

Attention!
The desktop to which you want to connect must be allowed remote control and selected users whose accounts can be used.

Remote access on Windows 7

In Windows 7, you first need to configure both computer using "Command line" and only then proceed with setting up the connection. In fact, there is nothing complicated here, but the entire cooking process can be omitted if you use programs from third-party developers. On our website you can find and read detailed material in which remote administration on Windows 7 is discussed in detail:

Attention!
Just as with Windows XP, on the "Seven" must be selected accounts through which you can connect,
and access must be allowed.

Remote access on Windows 8 / 8.1 / 10

Connecting to a PC on Windows 8 and all subsequent OS versions is no more complicated than the above methods for older systems, even easier. Again, you are required to know the IP of the second computer and the password. The system has a pre-installed utility that will help the user to quickly and easily set up a remote connection. Below we leave a link to a lesson in which you can study this process in detail:

As you can see, it is completely easy to manage a remote desktop on any Windows versions... We hope our articles have helped you figure out this process. Otherwise, you can write questions in the comments and we will definitely answer them.

Remote desktop software, more accurately called remote access software or remote control software, allows you to remotely control one computer from another. With remote control, we really meant the remote remote control- you can take a mouse and keyboard and use the computer you are connected to just like your own.

Remote desktop software is really useful for a variety of situations, from helping your dad who lives 500 miles away, working through a computer problem, remotely controlling from your New York office dozens of servers that you run in a Singapore data center!

As a rule, for remote access to a computer, you need to install part software to the computer you want to connect to, called host... Once this is done, another computer or device with the correct credentials, called client, can connect to and control the host.

Don't let the technical aspects of remote desktop software deter you. The best free remote access software listed below takes no more than a few clicks to get started - no special computer knowledge required.

Note. Remote Desktop is also the actual name of the built-in remote access tool in Windows operating systems. It is ranked alongside other tools, but we believe there are several remote control programs out there that do the best job.

Remote access programs:

TeamViewer

TeamViewer is the best free remote access software I've ever used. There are tons of features that are always great but also very easy to install. No changes to router or firewall configurations are required.

With support for video, voice calls and text chat, TeamViewer also allows file transfers, supports Wake-on-LAN (WOL), can remotely monitor the user's screen on an iPhone or iPad, and even reboot the PC remotely in safe mode and then reconnect automatically.

Host side

The computer with which you want to connect with TeamViewer can be Windows computer, Mac or Linux.

Full, installable version TeamViewer is one option here and is probably a safe bet if you're not sure what to do. The portable version called TeamViewer QuickSupport is an excellent choice if the computer you want to remotely control only needs to be done once or if it is not possible to install software on it. The third option is TeamViewer Host Is the best choice if you will regularly connect to this computer.

Client side

TeamViewer has several options for connecting to the computer you want to control.

Installable and portable programs are available for Windows, Mac and Linux, as well as mobile applications for iOS, BlackBerry, Android and Windows Phone. Yes - this means you can use your phone or tablet to connect to your remote controlled computers on the go.

TeamViewer also allows you to use a web browser to access your computer remotely.

A number of other features are also included, such as the ability to share one application window with someone else (instead of the entire desktop) and the ability to print remote files to a local printer.

I suggest trying TeamViewer before any other program on this list.

The complete list of supported desktop operating systems for TeamViewer includes Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, XP, 2000, Windows Server 2012/2008/2003, Windows Home Server, Mac, Linux and Chrome OS.

Ammyy Admin

Ammyy Admin is a free, fast and easy way to get remote access and remote desktop solutions for both individuals and businesses. Unlike powerful remote desktop software, the tool comes in the form of a tiny 1MB app. In addition to connecting remotely to another system, you can also perform actions such as file transfer and chat. Supported Windows, secure connection and easy software management make Ammyy Adminn one of the most preferred free remote desktop clients.

While it's free for non-commercial purposes, the Starter, Premium, and Corporate licensed tools are priced at $ 33.90, $ 66.90, and $ 99.90, respectively.

AnyDesk is a remote desktop program that can be carried out as portable or installed as a regular program.

Host side

Launch AnyDesk on the PC you want to connect to and record AnyDesk-Address, or a custom alias, if configured.

When the client connects, the host will be prompted to allow or deny the connection, as well as manage permissions, such as allow sound, clipboard, and the ability to block the host's keyboard / mouse control.

Client side

On another computer, launch AnyDesk, and then enter the AnyDesk host address or alias in the " Remote table " on the screen.

If automatic access is configured in the settings, the client does not need to wait for the host to accept the connection.

AnyDesk automatically updates and can enter full screen mode, balance the quality and speed of the connection, transfer files and sound, sync the clipboard, record a remote session, launch keyboard shortcuts, take screenshots of the remote computer, and restart the host computer.

AnyDesk works with Windows (10 to XP), macOS and Linux.

AeroAdmin is perhaps the most simple program for free remote access. There are virtually no customizations and everything is fast and accurate, perfect for spontaneous support.

Host side

AeroAdmin is very similar to TeamViewer, which tops this list. Just open the portable program and share your IP address or given ID with someone else. This is how the client computer will know how to connect to the host.

Client side

The client PC just needs to launch the same AeroAdmin program and enter the ID or IP address into its program. Before connecting, you can select " View only " or " Remote control" and then just select “ To plug" to request a remote control.

When the host computer confirms the connection, you can start to control the computer, exchange clipboard text, and transfer files.

It's great that AeroAdmin is completely free for both personal and commercial use, but it's too bad that it doesn't include a chat option.

Another point to make is that while AeroAdmin is 100% free, it does limit the number of hours you can use per month.

AeroAdmin can be installed on 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 10, 8, 7, and XP.

RemotePC

Pros: Simple, straightforward interface with a flat learning curve. Fast performance. Easy file transfer between local and remote desktops. Inexpensive.

Minuses: Cannot display more than one remote monitor in one window.

RemotePC is one of best apps with remote access, offering identical functions on computers and Mac computers, high performance and minimal yet intuitive interface.

Remote Utilities is a free remote access program with some really great features. It works by linking two remote computers together with what they call "Internet ID". You can control a total of 10 PCs with Remote Utilities.

Host side

Install some of the remote utilities called " Host on a Windows PC ”in order to have constant access to it. You also have the option to run Agent which provides spontaneous support without installing anything - it can even be run from a flash drive.

The host computer is given an Internet identifier that they must use in order for the client to establish a connection.

Client side

Program Viewer used to connect to host or agent software.

The viewer can be loaded on its own or in a combo file Viewer + Host... You can also download portable version Viewer if you don't want to install anything.

The connection of the viewer to the host or agent is done without any changes to the router, such as port forwarding, making configuration easier. The customer just needs to enter the Internet ID and password.

There are also client applications that can be downloaded for free for iOS and Android users.

Various modules can be used with the viewer so that you can access your computer remotely without even viewing the screen, although screen viewing is definitely the main feature of Remote Utilities.

Some of the Remote Utilities modules are: Remote Task Manager, File Transfer, Power Management for Remote Reboot or WOL, Remote Terminal (Command Line Access), Remote File Launch, System Information Manager, Text Chat, Remote Registry Access, and Remote View webcams.

In addition to these features, Remote Utilities also supports remote printing and multi-monitor viewing.

Unfortunately, setting up Remote Utilities can be confusing on the host computer as there are many different options.

The remote utilities can be installed on Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista and XP, as well as on Windows Server 2012, 2008 and 2003.

Another remote access program is UltraVNC. UltraVNC works a bit like Remote Utilities, where server and viewer installed on two PCs and the viewer is used to manage the server.

Host side

When you install UltraVNC you are asked if you want to install Server , Viewer or both. Install the server on the PC you want to connect to.

You can install UltraVNC Server as a system service to keep it running at all times. It's ideal, so you can always connect to it using the client software.

Client side

To establish a connection to the UltraVNC server, you must install the Viewer part during setup.

After setting up port forwarding on your router, you can access the UltraVNC server from anywhere using an internet connection - either through a mobile device that supports VNC connections or a PC with installed by the program viewing, or an Internet browser. All you need is the server's IP address to establish a connection.

UltraVNC supports file transfer, text chat, clipboard sharing, and can even load and connect to a server in safe mode.

The download page is a little confusing - choose the most recent version of UltraVNC first and then choose the 32-bit or 64-bit installer file that will work with your version of Windows.

Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, XP and Windows Server 2012, 2008 and 2003 users can install and use UltraVNC.

Windows Remote Desktop

Windows Remote Desktop is remote access software built into the Windows operating system. No additional download is required to use the program.

Host side

To enable connection to a computer with using Windows Remote Desktop, you should open preferences system properties(accessible from the control panel) and allow remote connections through a specific Windows user through the tab " Remote ».

You really have to configure the router to forward ports so another computer can connect to it from the network side, but this is usually not a big hassle to finish.

Client side

Another computer that wants to connect to the host computer just needs to open the already installed software to connect to remote desktop and enter the IP address of the host.

Advice. You can open Remote Desktop in the Run dialog (open it with the shortcut Windows Key + R); just enter Mstsc command to run it.

Most of the other programs on this list have features that Windows Remote Desktop does not, but this method of remote access seems to be the most natural and easiest way to control the mouse and keyboard of a remote Windows PC.

Once everything is set up, you can transfer files, print to a local printer, listen to audio from a remote PC, and transfer the contents of the clipboard.

Remote Desktop Availability

Windows Remote Desktop can be used on Windows from XP to Windows 10.

However, while all versions of Windows can connect to other computers with incoming connections enabled, not all versions of Windows can act as a host (ie, accept incoming remote access requests).

If you are using version Home Premium or below, your computer can only act as a client and therefore cannot be remotely remote (but it can access other computers remotely).

Incoming remote access is only allowed for professional, corporate and final versions of Windows. In these editions, others can be removed to the computer as described above.

Something else to remember is that Remote Desktop will disconnect the user if they are logged in when someone connects to account this user remotely. This is very different from any other program on this list - everyone else can remotely connect to a user account while the user is still actively using the computer.

Chrome Remote Desktop is a browser extension Google chrome that allows you to configure your computer for remote access from any other computer running Google Chrome.

Host side

The way it works is that you install the extension in Google Chrome and then provide authorization to remotely access that PC with a personal PIN that you create yourself.

To do this, you need to sign in to your Google account, such as your Gmail or YouTube account information.

Client side

To connect to the host browser, login to Chrome Remote Desktop through another web browser (it must be Chrome) using the same credentials Google data or using a temporary access code generated by the host computer.

Since you are logged in, you can easily see another PC name from where you can simply select it and start a remote session.

Chrome Remote Desktop (copy and paste only) doesn't have the similar file sharing or chat features you see in similar programs, but it's very easy to set up and allows you to connect to your computer (or anyone) from anywhere using only yours. web browser.

Moreover, you can work remotely on the computer when the user is not opening Chrome, or even when they are completely signed out of the user account.

Since Chrome Remote Desktop works completely in Google browser Chrome, it can work with any operating system that uses Chrome, including Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chromebooks.

seecreen.com

Seecreen (formerly called Firnass) is an extremely tiny (500KB) yet powerful free remote access program that's perfect for instant on-demand support.

Host side

Open the program on the computer you want to monitor. After creating an account and logging in, you can add other users to the menu at their address Email or username.

Adding a client to the No Participation section allows them to have automatic access to the computer.

Client side

To connect to a host computer using Seecreen, another user needs to enter the host ID and password.

Screen sharing must be initiated from the client computer.

Seecreen does not support clipboard sync.

Seecreen is a JAR file that Java uses to run. All Windows versions are supported, as well as Mac and Linux operating systems

LiteManager is another remote access program, and it is strikingly similar to the one we talked about above.

However, unlike Remote Utilities, which can control just 10 PCs, LiteManager supports up to 30 slots for storing and connecting to remote computers, and has many useful features.

Host side

The computer you want to access must install the program LiteManager ProServer.msi(it's free) which is included in the downloaded zip file.

There are many ways to connect to a host computer. This can be done using an IP address, computer name, or ID.

The easiest way to configure this is to right-click the server program in the notification area of the taskbar, select ", erase the content that already exists, and click" Connected " to create a new identifier.

Client side

Another program called Viewer is installed to connect the client to the host. After the host has issued an identifier, the client must enter it from the parameter “ Connect by ID " on the menu " Compound", to establish a remote connection with another computer.

Once connected, the client can perform all sorts of actions, for example, using Remote Utilities, such as working with multiple monitors, transferring files in the background, gaining full control or read-only access on another PC, launching a remote task manager, launching files and programs remotely , record audio, edit registry, create demos, lock other person's screen and keyboard, and text chat.

There is also a QuickSupport option, which is a portable program for servers and viewers that makes the connection much faster than the above method.

I tested LiteManager on Windows 10, but it should work fine on Windows 8, 7, Vista and XP as well. This program is also available for macOS.

Comodo Unite is another free remote access program that creates a secure VPN connection between multiple computers. Once the VPN is established, you can remotely access applications and files through the client software.

Host side

Install the Comodo Unite program on the computer you want to control and then create an account with Comodo Unite. Account is how you keep track of the PCs you add to your account, so it's easy to get connected.

Client side

To connect to your Comodo Unite host computer, simply install the same software and then login with the same username and password. Then, you can simply select the computer you want to monitor and start a VPN session immediately.

Files can only be published if you start a chat, so it's not as easy to share files with Comodo Unite as it is with other remote desktop programs on this list. However, the chat is secured on a VPN, which you cannot find in similar software.

Only Windows 7, Vista and XP (32-bit and 64-bit) are officially supported, but I was able to get Comodo Unite to function the same as it did on Windows 10 and Windows 8.

Note. Comodo Unite has been superseded by Comodo ONE, but it is still available for download and is more suitable for most people.

ShowMyPC is a portable and free remote access program that is almost identical to UltraVNC (number 3 on this list), but uses a password to connect instead of an IP address.

Host side

Run ShowMyPC on any computer, and then select " Show my computer ", to get a unique identification number called common password .

Client side

Open the same ShowMyPC program on another computer and enter the ID from the main program to establish the connection. Instead, the customer can enter the number on the ShowMyPC website (in the Browse PC field) and run the Java version of the program in their browser.

There are additional options here that are not available in UltraVNC, such as using a webcam via a web browser and scheduled appointments, which allow someone to connect to your PC via a personal web link that launches the Java version of ShowMyPC.

ShowMyPC clients can only send a limited number of keyboard shortcuts to the host computer.

Please select ShowMyPC Free on the download page to get the free version. It works on all Windows versions.

join.me is a remote access program from the manufacturers LogMeIn that provides quick access to another computer via an Internet browser.

Client side

The remote viewer just has to enter the personal join.me code into their own setup under connections .

join.me supports full screen, conferencing, text chat, multiple monitors, and allows up to 10 participants to view simultaneously.

The customer can visit instead home page join.me to enter the code for the host computer without having to download any software. The code must be entered in the "MEETING CONNECTION" field.

All Windows versions can install join.me as well as Mac.

Note. Download join.me for free using the small download link below the paid options.

Host side

To access your computer remotely, you need to install the DesktopNow software.

When the program starts up for the first time, you need to enter your email address and password so that you can use the same credentials on the client side to establish the connection.

The host computer can either configure its router to forward the proper port number to itself, or choose cloud access during setup to make a direct connection to the client, bypassing the need for complex forwarding.

It is probably best for most people to use the direct cloud access method to avoid port forwarding issues.

Client side

The client just needs to access the host through a web browser. If the router has been configured to forward the port number, the client will use the IP address of the host PC to connect. If cloud access was chosen, a specific link would be provided to the host that you will use to connect.

DesktopNow has good function file sharing, which allows you to upload your shared files remotely in an easy-to-use file browser.

Does not exist special application to connect to DesktopNow from a mobile device, so trying to view and control your computer from your phone or tablet can be difficult. However, the site is optimized for mobile phones so viewing your shared files is super easy.

Another free and portable program Remote Access - BeamYourScreen. This program works like some of the others on this list, where the presenter is given an ID number that they must provide to another user so that they can connect to the presenter's screen.

Host side

BeamYourScreen hosts are called organizers, so the program BeamYourScreen for Organizers (Portable) Is the preferred method that the host computer should use to accept remote connections. Quickly and easily get started sharing your screen without having to install anything.

Minuses: distracting message test server while the computer boots up. Slightly reduced functions when using a Mac system.

Bottom Line: GoToMyPC is a mature, easy-to-use remote access program with the best balance of functionality and ease of use available. If you don't need Linux or enterprise-level support, this is the app you want.

VNC Connect

Pros: support multiple platforms. Relatively simple interface. Fairly inexpensive subscription plans, including a free plan for personal use.

Minuses: separate server and viewer apps make setup confusing. No drag and drop of files between the viewer application and the desktop. Do not send one-time invitations from a remote computer.

VNC Connect is durable, secure, and easy to use as soon as you hang it. It has fewer features than other enterprise-grade remote access software, but it is also much cheaper.

Microsoft Remote Desktop

Microsoft introduced remote desktop apps for Android and iOS a few years ago, but this is perfect for accessing Windows computers. It's also free with no usage restrictions, and unlike Chrome Remote Desktop, the setup process is a little more complicated, but only when you run it for the first time.

Where is LogMeIn?

Unfortunately, LogMeIn's free product, LogMeIn Free, is no longer available. It was one of the most popular free services remote access available, so it's too bad that he's gone.

LogMeIn also works with join.me which still works and is listed above.

Free solutions

Remote control involves connecting to another computer to gain access and control resources. Thanks to this feature, the user can solve many additional tasks remotely: consultations, diagnostics, computer monitoring. Thus, tasks are simplified that are often impossible or irrational to perform at a distance.

The review will consider 10 solutions (6 free and 4 paid) for remote management. The main attention will be paid to the following features of the software of the selected category:

  • Package contents: what components are included in the distribution kit, types of installation on the host and client computers
  • Connection modes: supported protocols, work with RDP (see below)
  • Presentation functions: I mean the possibility of audio and video accompaniment, screen capture, the presence of additional tools ("pointer", "drawing board", etc.)
  • Security: supported encryption technologies, storage of confidential data, types of authorization on local and remote computers, availability of necessary settings
  • Platform support: mobile platforms and OS, availability of an online version.

The standard features of Windows will not be ignored, namely the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP), which will be discussed first. At the end of the review, there is a comparative table with detailed information on the availability of the necessary functions in the mentioned applications.

RDP - Windows Remote Desktop Protocol

Starting with Windows NT, there is support for the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP). Accordingly, Windows 7 offers the user RDP 7 (an update for Windows XP is also available), Windows 8 - RDP 8 (also available for Windows 7 SP1). The capabilities of the current version, RDP 8, and will be discussed.

Connection to a remote worker is carried out using the mstsc.exe application, after entering the name of the remote computer. Connection parameters are also available in this dialog.

In the "Display" tab, you can specify the resolution of the remote desktop (with the ability to enable full-screen mode), color depth (up to 32 bits).

In the "Local resources" section, you can select the audio playback mode (on a remote or current computer), enable audio recording from the remote desktop. Also in this section you can configure access to the printer, local disk, floppy drive, PnP devices, ports.

The quality of data transmission is regulated in the "Interaction" tab. You can not only select a connection profile, but also independently define display parameters: desktop background, anti-aliasing, visual effects, image caching. All of these options affect the data transfer rate for remote access and can significantly optimize network traffic.

Security settings are available through the "System" component ("System Properties" in the Control Panel). In the "Remote Access" tab, you can allow Remote Assistance connections as well as remote connections to your computer. Authentication is done at the network level. It is also allowed to restrict access by specifying the list of allowed remote desktop users yourself.

Thus, the state of Windows provides basic tools for working with the RDP protocol. But, as expected, advanced security settings, support for mobile platforms, presentation functions are not offered to the user.

Teamviewer

TeamViewer is perhaps the most famous free remote control program. The toolkit allows you to establish remote access to your home computer, manage your desktop from various platforms and devices, and administer Windows servers. In addition, the developers highlight the corporate capabilities of TeamViewer: the program can be used to organize conferences, consultations and help colleagues at work.

TeamViewer is available for Windows, Linux, Mac platforms (with limitations), remote access from OS-based devices is possible. TeamViewer client in the full version of the distribution (All-in-One), as a system service (TeamViewer Host), in a portable format, on a terminal server and other options. The TeamViewer QuickSupport module should be highlighted, which does not require installation and is optimal for urgent tasks.

In the full version of the program, the client and operator parts are available. The TeamViewer interface is represented by a main window with two tabs - "Remote Control" and "Conference".

Remote control

The user receives a unique ID to identify the computer on the network, and a temporary password. Also, using the partner ID (optional - IP address) and knowing its password, you can establish a connection to a remote device.

Three connection modes are available:

  • Remote Control: Remotely control the device or collaborate on the same computer
All actions are performed on another computer through the remote control window. At the same time, it is possible to change the resolution and scaling, switching between active monitors and other options.
  • File transfer: sharing files during a session
To exchange data, TeamViewer uses a two-pane file manager, in which host and client resources and basic file operations for working with them are available, such as creating folders, deleting, copying, etc.
  • VPN: virtual network mode
Between computers, you can install a virtual private network to provide general access to devices (printers, removable media, etc.).

Conferences

In this TeamViewer tab, you can create a blitz conference or connect to an existing one. Among the available tools are voice and video communication, screen sharing, session recording with the ability to convert to AVI. Whiteboard is used as a canvas for drawing, sketching, commenting.

One of the indisputable features of TeamViewer is the Computers & Contacts list, which provides quick access to devices. In addition, here you can monitor the network status of computers, exchange messages (there are group chat capabilities). Looking ahead, it should be noted that not every participant in the review offers an address book for quick connection to other devices.

For security purposes, the program uses encryption of sessions (AES 256 bit) and traffic (RSA key exchange). Files transferred during a session are signed by VeriSign, end user must give his consent to receive. Through the TeamViewer settings, it is possible to restrict access: setting access to all operations only after confirmation or denying outgoing sessions.

Summary

TeamViewer - one-stop solution the ability to choose a method of remote control. Thanks to the widely presented multimedia functions, convenient organization of contacts, the program is optimal for conferences.

[+] Wide functionality of the free version
[+] Tools for conferences
[+] Security
[+] Presentation opportunities
[-] Restriction of the remote session (5 minutes in the free version)

Ammyy Admin

Ammyy Admin does not require installation and combines a simple interface and flexible functionality. The program is free, has no restrictions for home use. Distributed for Windows, Linux / FreeBSD platforms, mobile devices not supported.

The client and operator modules are available in the main window. The user receives an ID, which is generated with reference to the equipment. Optionally, when connecting, you can use IP.

The client part can be activated or stopped, thereby setting a ban on connections; by default Ammyy Admin works in standby mode. You can track the connection status using the indicators, the decoding of which is in.

There is an address book, contacts can be combined into groups, change the order of contacts, manually add new addresses. The network status of computers, however, cannot be monitored.

The main connection modes are Desktop (remote desktop), File manager (File manager) and Microsoft RDP. RDP allows you to connect to a remote desktop, standard Windows functions are provided.

Of the other modes, Voice Chat and Speed Test remain. Obviously, multimedia capabilities are not presented here as fully as in TeamViewer: Ammyy Admin is not positioned as a kind of corporate solution. It is worth noting the screen sharing function, which, in combination with voice chat, makes Ammyy Admin a program suitable for remote assistance.

Going to "Ammyy → Settings → Operator", you can specify the RDP parameters, select the type of encryption and codec profiles, thereby reducing the load on the network. More importantly, the "Network" tab allows you to configure Ammyy Admin connection, manually specify routers, enable or disable data transmission over global network Ammyy (Ammyy Worldwide Network).

The file manager is a two-panel one, through which standard file operations are available between the client and the operator.

In the settings of access rights ("Client → Access Rights"), separate parameters can be set for each ID. Authentication mode (connection to a PC) is available to choose from: by Hardware ID, password or user permission. Thus, you can minimally protect your computer from unauthorized remote connections.

Summary

The main advantages of Ammyy Admin are speed, simple and fast interface, relative independence from Ammyy servers and free. Probably not the best for teamwork optimal solution, but for individual use, with several computers at your disposal, it is quite.

Supremo Remote Desktop

Supremo Remote Desktop is a handy portable tool for remote control, remote assistance to other users. Works under Windows XP and above, mobile devices are not supported.

The program runs without installation, to get started, the host and client must download Supremo Remote Desktop from the developer's site. Traditionally, two modes of operation are supported: using a computer as an access point and connecting to a remote device. In the first case, access is opened by clicking the Start button. In the Your credentials section, the data required for connection are available: ID and password generated at the beginning of the session. The client requests authorization at login (Ask authorization option), thereby preventing unauthorized access to the computer.

To connect to the host, use the Your partner field, you can also select an address from the Address Book. The list of active connections is displayed in the Connections section of the main program window.

During transmission, the HTTPS (SSL) protocol is used, the data is encrypted. Security settings are weakly disclosed: you can set a password for starting the program, specify the IDs allowed for the connection.

Other tools available in Supremo Remote Desktop include multiple user connections to one machine. To transfer files, a manager is used, which is similar to the classic two-panel; upload and download of files is available. No presentation or multimedia features are provided. This certainly limits the use of Supremo as a remote assistant.

Summary

Supremo Remote Desktop is an easy-to-use program with a standard set of remote control tools. It can be noticed by users who do not need multimedia functions.

mRemoteNG

Speaking of universal tools that allow you to work with several protocols at the same time, it is worth mentioning mRemoteNG. The program opens access to VNC, ICA, SSH, Telnet, RAW, Rlogin and HTTP / S, there is also RDP support. It is distributed in a portable and standard version of the installer for the Windows platform.

The mRemoteNG interface is represented by several sections, panels are available, tabbed - as a result, it is easy for the user to customize appearance programs in your own way. The main options are available in the "Configuration" section. Here you can specify the protocol required for connection and related parameters: connection settings, protocol, gateway, appearance, resources, and others. The "Configuration" displays the connection status of the host.

The connection to the devices is carried out through the quick connection panel - here it is easy to create several configurations, which, in the case of many protocols, is very convenient. Connections can be grouped and configurations are easy to import / export.

File transfer is carried out via the SSH protocol - which is not very familiar for an ordinary user and at the same time, more reliable in terms of security. Additional features include a port scanner, and external tools can be added to the list.

The indistinctness of mRemoteNG is striking. This manifests itself in an unusual interface: it is not so convenient to use and configure with each specific protocol. In the connection configuration, many parameters have been reduced beyond recognition - this can be attributed to the quality of localization. When you try to find a description of functions, the documentation is silent, its sections are empty.

Summary

A notable feature of mRemoteNG is the integration of popular protocols into a single graphical shell. By configuring multiple connections, there is no need for multiple specialized solutions. This plus to some extent compensates for the non-intuitiveness of the program and the lack of documentation.

TightVNC

Home page: http://www.tightvnc.com/

TightVNC Software develops several products: TightProjector, RFB Player, VNC Reflector and TightVNC. TightVNC is a program for remote control, you can use it to solve computer problems, educational purposes, administration.

TightVNC is a cross-platform solution. For Linux, however, at the time of this writing, only old version programs, Mac OS is not supported. However, there is a Java version of TightVNC, which allows for remote control via a web server. On the Windows platform, TightVNC is installed as a regular application or as a system service. The "quiet" mode is supported, it is quite easy to transfer the configuration to other computers or remotely update the servers.

The TightVNC toolkit is divided into two modules: WinVNC, which is the server part installed on the remote machine, and the Viewer application, which is used to view the screen contents of the remote server. In the Viewer connection settings, the VNS server address and baud rate are set.

It should be noted that TightVNC does not generate an access password; you need to define it yourself in the settings. You can find out the connection status by displaying the icon in the notification area: if at least one user is connected to the computer, the icon colors change.

The developers hint that data transmission via VNC, despite the original DES-password protection, is imperfect. For security reasons, it is recommended to use SSH tunneling. At the same time, TightVNC settings can reduce the chance of unauthorized access to zero. In future versions of the program, it is also planned to introduce more reliable methods of protection.

Summary

TightVNC surprises with a large number of settings related to connection, security. This is a good choice for an administrator, but in terms of transfer to the server and further maintenance, it is not the best option for an inexperienced user.

Remote Utilities

Remote Utilities is a solution, according to the developer, intended for small and medium-sized businesses. Remote control is possible directly, via a local network or the Internet. No firewall adjustments or preconfigurations are required with the suite of utilities.

The complex works only under Windows, for Linux it is proposed to install the Wine emulator - but only for working with RUT-Viewer. mobile version absent.

Remote Utilities consists of three modules: viewer - installed on a local computer, host - on a remote one, agent - a module for user support. The agent, it should be noted, is optimal for quickly establishing communication between the client and the host. Remote installation as well as upgrading is easy thanks to the Remote installation tool.

Connection in one of the above modes is performed using the New connection dialog (Connection → Add Computer), you can specify an IP address, Internet ID or DNS as an access point. The connected computer is added to the address book list, from which the necessary devices are subsequently selected.

Standard remote control tools are provided, such as remote device manager, registry viewer, terminal and file manager. Two-pane manager, with the ability to copy and move data, launch and open applications and documents on a remote host. Also in the presence of support for terminals, power control.

Text chat is pretty straightforward, but keep in mind that Remote Utilities also offers audio / video chats to users. It is worth mentioning the ability to capture video and adjust the transmission quality - from 24-bit color to optimized "picture" for a network with limited transmission (in addition, there is a Network usage mode parameter in the Properties settings of the remote computer). In short, there are those features that have been listed more than once in similar programs with RDP support.

Remote Utilities offers 3 types of authorization, AES encryption with a 256-bit key, a 2048-bit public key. Incoming connections are filtered by IP; you can also create a list of trusted users with different access rights. Security subsystem is optional: you can choose RUT or WinNT. Both modes allow you to flexibly configure access to certain functions for each user; there are no significant differences between them.

Summary

A simple set of utilities for remote connection, without choosing a connection protocol, but very clear in installation and configuration. Essentially, there is a lack of cross-platform and user-friendly interface for working with multiple devices at the same time.

PC remote control programs are well known to any system administrator or service worker. technical support, since in their daily activities they are constantly faced with the task of administering servers and PCs of local network users. The most common utility for remote PC control is, of course, Remote Desktop Connection, which is included with the Windows operating system. This fact is explained not so much by her functionality, how much by the fact that it is an integral part of the OS, and therefore you do not need to purchase it separately. As for the functionality of this utility, in practice, as a rule, it is not enough, therefore, specialized software packages are often used. third party manufacturers... In this article, we will consider specialized software packages designed for remote control of computers.

If we try to classify remote control programs, then conditionally they can be divided into two types: utilities that provide access to the desktop of a remote PC, and utilities that provide access to the command line of a remote PC. The first of them provide users with the ability to work with a remote PC in the same way as with a local one. Utilities of the second type allow you to automate the operation of the network by launching the same or different applications on several selected network computers, and also, for example, create a schedule for launching programs on remote PCs. It is completely pointless to try to compare these two types of utilities as they are used in different situations and for different purposes.

Note that most programs for remote control operate on the "client-server" principle, that is, they imply the presence of server and client parts of the program, which are respectively installed on the controlled computer and on the PC from which the control is performed. To gain control over a remote PC, it is necessary that the corresponding program module (server part) is running on it. Some remote management utilities allow you to remotely install the server part (if you have the appropriate administrative rights), and sometimes this procedure is completely transparent for the local PC user (as a rule, in this case, the server part is installed as a service on the remote PC). But some utilities require "manual" installation of the server part of the program.

In this article, we will present to your attention remote control programs designed for use with Windows platforms. It should be noted that in the process of preparing the publication, we looked at several dozen utilities for remote control of a PC (fortunately, it is not difficult to find them on the Internet). However, as it turned out, not all utilities are efficient and generally deserve a mention. Therefore, we will focus only on those that are really workable and have been tested by us in a real local network.

Anyplace Control 3.3 (www.anyplace-control.com)

Anyplace Control 3.3 is a client-server application.

The Host module is installed on the controlled PC, and the Admin module of the program is installed on the PC from which the control is performed. Of course, it is possible to install both modules at the same time on any PC in the local network. But the most interesting thing is that the Anyplace Control 3.3 program provides the ability to remotely install the Host-module on any computer on the local network. And all that is needed for this is to select a computer in the local network and start the procedure for remote installation of the Host module. Naturally, for this you need to have administrator rights.

Note that Anyplace Control 3.3 supports a Russian-language interface.

Anyplace Control 3.3 allows you to work in two modes: view and control. In the first mode, it is possible to display the desktop of the remote PC on the screen and observe the user's actions, and in the control mode, it is possible to completely intercept the control of the remote PC. An interesting feature of the remote control mode is that the work of the remote PC user is not blocked. However, in both modes, the user of the remote PC receives a notification in the form of an icon in the system tray that his computer is “under the hood”.

To connect to a remote PC, you must first select it from the list. The built-in scanner allows you to display all computers on the local network (domain or workgroup), and you can configure the filter to display only PCs that already have the client part of the program installed, that is, those to which you can connect.

After selecting the computers to which you want to connect, they are added to the list and become available for remote control (Fig. 1).

Rice. 1. The main window of the Anyplace program
Control 3.3 with the displayed list of computers,

The undoubted advantage of this utility is that it allows you to remotely control several PCs at the same time. In this case, it is possible to simultaneously execute commands such as shutdown, reboot, and user session termination on controlled PCs.

To prevent unauthorized access to the PC during the installation of Anyplace Control 3.3, you can set a password to access the controlled computer. Other interesting features of the program include setting up traffic encryption when controlling a PC remotely and using a shared clipboard between the controlled computer and the PC from which it is controlled. True, it will not work to transfer pictures through this buffer, but text fragments are transferred without problems.

In conclusion, we note that the demo version of Anyplace Control 3.3 is valid for 30 days after installation. The price of the full version of the program depends on the number of PCs on which it is installed, at the rate of $ 17.5 per PC.

Access Remote PC 4.12.2 (www.access-remote-pc.com)

Utility Access Remote PC 4.12.2 also belongs to the category of client-server applications and allows you to intercept the desktop and get full access to any PC where the server part of this program is installed from any other computer (Fig. 2). Note that the server part of the program is installed on the controlled PC, and the client part is installed on the computer from which the control is performed. When installing the server part of the program on computers to be remotely controlled, the username for which remote control is authorized and the access password are specified.

Rice. 2. Transfer files between computers
in the utility Access Remote PC 4.12.2

Access Remote PC 4.12.2 provides the ability to control computers both over a local network and over the Internet, and even through modem connections. When controlling a computer remotely, the work of a local user is not blocked, but the fact that the computer is controlled from the outside, as well as who exactly controls the computer, the local user can recognize by the icon in the system tray. In addition, the server part of the program allows, if necessary, to disconnect all remote users from the PC, change passwords, view the statistics of each remote control session.

Access Remote PC 4.12.2 provides two modes of operation: full control of the remote PC and monitoring mode.

The disadvantages of this utility include the impossibility of remote simultaneous control of several PCs using a single interface. However, you can run several connection sessions at the same time (each of them in its own window), and then the ability to control several remote computers is realized. Another drawback of the program is the impossibility of remote installation of its server part.

The advantages of Access Remote PC include the fact that it can work with firewalls, supports dynamic IP-addresses and, importantly, practically does not slow down even on slow network connections, including modem ones. In addition, this utility allows you to easily transfer files between computers, for which a special Transfer Files mode is provided (Fig. 2), and also supports work with the clipboard, that is, it allows you to synchronize clipboards on a local and remote PC, which simplifies the transfer of text fragments between PCs. Another advantage of the program is the support for data transmission using the RC4 algorithm with a 160-bit key.

The free version of the program is fully functional, but the number of launches is limited - only 30 times.

LanHelper 1.61 (www.hainsoft.com)

LanHelper 1.61 (Fig. 3) is a small utility that allows you to automate the process of managing a local network.

Rice. 3. The main window of the LanHelper 1.61 utility

It can be used to remotely shutdown or reboot several computers on the network at the same time. Applications can be launched on remote PCs (if they support launching from the command line), in addition, it is supported to simultaneously launch the same applications on a group of controlled PCs.

The LanHelper utility has a built-in set of commands that can be executed on remote PCs (Fig. 4). In this case, it is possible to specify the time when the application is launched and the time interval in accordance with which the applications are launched on the PC (the minimum interval is 1 min). You can also schedule the launch of applications on remote PCs. The most important advantage of the program is that it does not require installation of the client part on remote PCs to implement all its capabilities.

DameWare NT Utilities 5.5.0.2 (www.dameware.com)

DameWare NT Utilities 5.5.0.2 software package is powerful system remote administration of a local network. It is based on a suite of utilities Microsoft Windows NT administration utilities, united by a very convenient single interface. Most of the Microsoft Windows NT administration utilities included in the package have advanced features, and in addition, it contains a number of unique utilities. In particular, the package includes the DameWare Mini utility Remote control, allowing full control of the desktop of the remote PC, as well as a utility for implementing the command line mode on the remote PC.

When the DameWare NT Utilities 5.5.0.2 package is launched, the entire network is automatically scanned and the main program window displays all available domains and workgroups, as well as computers in the selected domain / workgroup (Fig. 6).

Rice. 6. Main window of DameWare NT Utilities 5.5.0.2

Let's briefly list the capabilities of the DameWare NT Utilities 5.5.0.2 package: with its help you can view information about hard drives on remote PCs, view the contents of the Event Log, view information about connected printers, about running processes and services, about installed applications, collect detailed information about the PC configuration, receive service information about PCs activated by users, and much more. There are also additional features: you can quickly edit the registry on a remote PC, send messages to users through the Messenger service, remotely shutdown or restart computers and, as already mentioned, get full control of a remote PC via the command line or desktop.

The undoubted advantage of this software package is that to implement remote control, you do not need to manually install the client part of the program on a remote PC. When you try to control a remote PC via the desktop or command line, DameWare NT Utilities 5.5.0.2 automatically prompts you to install and run the required service on the remote PC. In this case, the user of this remote PC will learn about the interception of control in a pop-up window, which displays information about which PC is being remotely controlled.

The advantages of DameWare NT Utilities 5.5.0.2 include the ability to simultaneously connect to multiple computers to manage them, as well as the fact that remote control does not block the work of a local user.

All in all, this software package provides a powerful and easy-to-use network management tool.

The demo version of the program is fully functional, but with a limited 30-day validity period. A single license is priced at $ 289. In addition, the DameWare Mini Remote Control package can be purchased separately for remote control of computers from the desktop, and a single license costs $ 89.95.

Omniquad Instant Remote Control 2.2.9 (www.omniquad.com)

The current version of the Omniquad Instant Remote Control utility - 2.2.9 - is far from new, but it still remains one of the best in its class.

The Omniquad Instant Remote Control 2.2.9 utility allows you to take full control of a remote PC from your desktop. A distinctive feature of this utility is that it does not require the installation of the client part on the controlled PC. When accessing a remote PC, the corresponding service is initially launched in a hidden mode, and the user of the PC controlled by this program does not receive any notification and does not have the opportunity to find out that control of his computer has been intercepted. This allows you to use this utility for covert monitoring of user actions. Note that not all remote control utilities have the ability to control a PC without prior notification of the user.

When the program starts, the network is automatically scanned, and the main window of the program displays the computers of the network environment (Fig. 7). After selecting any computer by pressing the Remote Control button, control of the remote PC is intercepted. In this case, the work of the local user is not blocked. In addition, it is possible to launch this utility in the remote PC desktop monitoring mode.

Rice. 7. The main window of the Omniquad Instant Remote Control 2.2.9 utility

Note that for remote control, you must have the appropriate access rights to the PC. If you are using a Firewall on the remote PC, you must open port 6003, which is the default for this utility. In addition, you can assign any other port to the Omniquad Instant Remote Control software (while open ports can be scanned).

The disadvantage of the program is that it does not support simultaneous connection with multiple remote computers.

The demo version of the utility has a limited validity period of 30 days, the license price is $ 39.

EMCO Remote Desktop Professional 4.0 (www.emco.is)

In terms of the range of functionality, this product (Fig. 8) is to some extent similar to the DameWare NT Utilities 5.5.0.2 package. The EMCO Remote Desktop Professional software package is a set of functional tools for implementing remote control of a local network and monitoring its status.

Rice. 8. The main window of the EMCO Remote Desktop Professional utility

When you start the program, you can activate a network scanner, which allows you to collect detailed information about all computers on the local network, about the applications installed on them, about running processes, about the versions of the operating system available, about the installed hardware, etc. In addition to automatically collecting information about computers on the network (this process takes quite a long time), PCs can be added to the list manually.

The package allows you to remotely start and stop services, restart and shutdown computers. The most interesting feature of this program is the ability to gain complete control over remote computer- for this it is enough to select required computer in the list and go to the Viewer tab. If this is the first time the computer is being controlled, then the NetServer service must be installed on the remote PC. This procedure is carried out remotely and is completely invisible to the local user. Once the NetServer service is running on the remote PC, you can connect to it, take full control over the control, and then work with the remote PC in the same way as with the local PC. When managing a computer remotely, the work of a local user is not blocked; however, if you use the mouse at the same time, it is unlikely that anything will work.

Since the local user does not receive any notifications that the computer is being controlled from the outside, the EMCO Remote Desktop Professional software can be effectively used to secretly monitor user activities.

Another important advantage of the program is that it allows you to remotely control multiple PCs at the same time. In this case, a special window is allocated for each session of connection with a remote PC.

Among the shortcomings of this program, we note the complexity of its configuration when using Windows XP SP2 on a controlled PC. Moreover, as practice shows, the need for customization depends on which patches are installed. Of course, the program comes with step-by-step instruction those changes that will have to be made in this case (more precisely, the program downloads the appropriate instructions from the site), but all this is rather inconvenient and impractical.

The demo version of the program is designed for 30 days and supports only 25 computers on the local network. The package price depends on the number of computers in the network: 50 computers (minimum number) - $ 135; 1,000 computers - $ 1,295

Radmin 3.0 Remote Control (www.radmin.com)

Of all the products we reviewed, Famatech's Radmin 3.0 Remote Control utility is the most recent - its a new version was released in early 2007.

This utility is designed to monitor and gain full control over a remote PC in a local network.

Radmin 3.0 Remote Control is equipped with only the most essential tools for managing a remote PC and is very easy to configure (Figure 9). This makes it easy to master. The utility works on the principle of a client-server application and includes two parts: the first (server) part is installed on the controlled PC, and the second on the PC from which the control is performed.

Rice. 9. The main window of the Radmin 3.0 Remote Control utility

The disadvantages of the program include the lack of built-in tools for remote installation of the server part (Radmin Server) on a managed PC, so if you need to gain control over any PC on the network, you will first have to locally install the corresponding module on it.

In our opinion, a serious drawback of this utility is the lack of a built-in network scanner, which does not allow you to get a list of PCs to which you can connect.

Well, the last drawback that was revealed during testing of this program is that for correct work the utilities need to be configured or simply disabled the Firewall on the managed PC if it is running Windows XP SP2.

The utility works in several modes: file transfer, full control, view only, Telnet, shutdown and command line mode. There is a built-in file manager with which files are transferred from one PC to another. The program keeps statistics on the traffic used and can encrypt data.

With Radmin 3.0 Remote Control, you can control one remote computer or several at once, each with its own password. To provide an increased level of security, you can take additional precautions: turn on brute-force protection and create a list of denied IP addresses.

V latest version the program has many interesting innovations:

  • support for Windows Vista;
  • text and voice chat with the ability to conduct conferences and exchange personal messages and password protection;
  • increased level of security, providing protection against attacks, and protection of active data on the network;
  • different access rights for each user;
  • IP filters to restrict access to specific IP addresses and subnets.

In general, it should be noted that this utility is inferior in functionality to similar remote control utilities. The lack of a built-in network scanner, the need to locally install the Radmin Server module - all this significantly limits its functionality.

In conclusion, the Radmin 3.0 Remote Control license costs $ 49 per PC.

Atelier Web Remote Commander 5.59 (www.atelierweb.com)

Atelier Web Remote Commander 5.59 (Fig. 10) is a small utility that is supposed to provide full control of a remote PC. It consists of two parts and works on a client / server basis. In addition, it is possible to remotely collect information about the hardware configuration of a PC, etc. However, it hardly makes sense to list all the utility's capabilities in this case, since it is so crude that it will hardly be possible to use it.

Rice. 10. Utility information window
Atelier Web Remote Commander 5.59

Of the obvious shortcomings, one can single out the lack of help. In addition, the program does not have a built-in network scanner, which is why you have to explicitly enter the name or IP address of the computer to which you want to connect, which is extremely inconvenient. But the main drawback is that to implement a connection to a remote PC, it is first necessary to install the corresponding program module on it (there are no built-in tools for remote installation) and somehow configure it.

Unfortunately, no matter how we set up the program, implement remote connection we did not succeed (the connection was made via a local network between two computers with an operating Windows system XP SP2). Although the program is paid (the demo version has a limited validity period), it is absolutely useless and inoperative. Our verdict is “into the oven” such programs.

Remote Desktop Control 1.7 (www.remote-desktop-control.com)

The Remote Desktop Control 1.7 program belongs to the category of client-server applications, that is, the Host-module of the program is installed on the controlled PC, and the Admin-module is installed on the PC from which the control is performed.

In terms of its interface (Fig. 11) and functionality, the Remote Desktop Control 1.7 package is very similar to Anyplace Control 3.3, but it also has some important differences (and for the worse), for example, it lacks the ability to remotely install the Host module on any local computer networks. In addition, for the Remote Desktop Control 1.7 package to work, you need to configure the Firewall on the controlled computer (add the program to the list of allowed ones), while the Anyplace Control 3.3 program does this automatically.

Rice. 11. The main window of the program
Remote Desktop Control 1.7 with a displayed list of computers,
to which you can remotely connect

In terms of its functionality, Remote Desktop Control 1.7 is similar to Anyplace Control 3.3: it allows you to work in two modes: viewing and control; in the view mode, you can display the desktop of the remote PC on the screen and observe the user's actions, and in the control mode, you can completely take over the control of the remote PC.

The utilities allow you to remotely control multiple PCs at the same time. This provides for the simultaneous execution of commands such as shutdown, reboot, and user session termination on controlled PCs.

In conclusion, we note that the demo version of Remote Desktop Control 1.7 is valid for 30 days after installation. The price of the full version of the program depends on the number of PCs on which it is installed - $ 15 per PC.

TightVNC for Windows 1.3.8 (www.tightvnc.com)

TightVNC for Windows 1.3.8 - absolutely free utility for remote computer control, which works on the client-server principle and has two modules: TightVNC Viewer and TightVNC Server. The TightVNC Server module is installed on the controlled PC, and the TightVNC Viewer is installed on the PC from which the control is performed. There are no tools for remote installation of the TightVNC Server module. In addition, before starting work, you need to configure the TightVNC Server module by specifying the connection password. To connect to a remote PC, just specify its DNS name or IP address and select the type of connection (Fig. 12).

Rice. 12. Connecting to a remote PC using the utility

The only function of TightVNC for Windows 1.3.8 is to gain full access to the desktop of a remote computer and control it using a mouse and keyboard. Considering that the utility is absolutely free, then it can be recommended to home users.

UltraVNC 1.0.2 (www.uvnc.com)

UltraVNC 1.0.2 is another completely free, but nevertheless very effective, client-server utility for remote PC control. The UltraVNC Server module is installed on the controlled computer, and the UltraVNC Viewer module is installed on the computer from which the control is performed. The program does not provide tools for remote installation of the UltraVNC Server module, so you need to install the modules locally.

The UltraVNC Server module has a lot of settings (Fig. 13) and allows you to set a password for the connection, select the ports to use, etc.

Rice. 13. Configuring the UltraVNC Server module

When accessing the desktop of a remote PC in full control mode, the work of the local user is not blocked. In addition, UltraVNC 1.0.2 offers a number of additional opportunities... For example, there is a built-in chat, with which you can exchange messages with a remote PC. It also provides the ability to transfer files. In addition to everything, the UltraVNC 1.0.2 utility provides encryption of transmitted data, for which the exchange of keys between computers is provided.

In general, it can be noted that the UltraVNC 1.0.2 utility is a highly effective tool for remote PC control and can be recommended for both home users and corporate use (especially since the utility is free).

RealVNC (www.realvnc.com)

There are three variants of the RealVNC program: Free Edition, Personal Edition and Enterprise Edition, which differ from each other in functionality and cost.

RealVNC Free Edition has minimal functionality and is completely free. Actually, in this case, we are only talking about the possibility of gaining access to the desktop of a remote PC.

The RealVNC Personal Edition offers a number of additional features. First of all, this is traffic encryption using the AES algorithm with a key length of 128 bits (Fig. 14), and automatic generation of the encryption key is supported. In addition, there is the possibility of using user authentication, as well as transferring files between computers and much more.

A distinctive feature of the RealVNC Enterprise Edition is its multi-platform nature. That is, this program, having all the functionality of RealVNC Personal Edition, can be used to remotely control computers on which both Linux, Solaris, HP-UX and MAC OS are installed, as well as Windows 95/98 / Me / NT 4/2000 / XP / 2003 / Vista.

The cost of the RealVNC program depends on the number of licenses (number of computers managed) and on the delivery option. For example, the Personal Edition costs $ 30 per license, and the Enterprise Edition costs $ 50 per license.

Hidden Administrator 1.5 (www.hiddenadm.nm.ru)

Hidden Administrator 1.5 (Fig. 15) is another free program for remote computer management, and, as the name suggests, it allows you to covertly monitor computers.

The program works on a client-server basis. The server part is installed on a managed computer, and no tools for remote installation are provided.

In addition to the function of gaining access in full control mode to the desktop of a remote computer, the Hidden Administrator 1.5 program offers a number of additional features: receive information about the configuration of a remote PC, exchange files with a remote PC, send messages to a remote PC, turn off or restart a remote computer, work with the registry of the remote PC, receive and transmit the clipboard, run programs on the remote PC, and much more (Fig. 16). It would take a lot of time to list everything this program is capable of. Note that the only thing she can't do is encrypt traffic. Naturally, it is possible to set a password to connect to a remote PC and even set up an IP filter on computers from which remote control is possible.

This utility is the best in its class and can be recommended for home users.

Today, such a function as controlling another computer via the Internet is not surprising. There are many free remote access systems that make it possible to easily transfer information between users and carry out various operations on another device via the Internet or a local network.

This function is especially needed, for example, when someone who is not particularly versed in the settings of the operating system is trying to change the parameters. In order not to spend a huge period of time explaining, you can easily and in a matter of seconds set the necessary options yourself. Such utilities are now indispensable for working remotely, for example, you can not waste time traveling to the office, doing all the work from home, be a system administrator and control the main computer from your home PC. All data will be available at any minute. Do not worry about security either - all information is subject to reliable encryption, all data is transmitted in a strictly confidential mode. Such utilities can also be used for communication, saving money on voice communications.

There are quite a lot of programs for controlling another computer, we will consider the five most popular ones, carry out an analysis, note the advantages and disadvantages.

This program is perhaps the most popular among users and has been holding a leading position for a long time. In principle, there is a reason - the functionality is really good. The utility does not weigh much, downloads quickly, and is freely available. In addition, no installation is required, you can immediately start and work. Accordingly, the interface and functions are available even to the most inexperienced user. After starting, a window with the ID and password of this PC and a window for entering the corresponding data of another device are displayed.

The application has many benefits. For example, it allows you to transfer files, chat, share your screen, and more. You can also set the mode of round-the-clock access to the device, this function is useful for system administrators... It is worth noting quite high speed work, the ability to work on all mobile platforms and operating systems. There are also many more additional functions that come in handy for remote access.

Of course, there is no escape from the shortcomings. Let's list some of them. The main one is that although the utility is freely available, it should not be used for commercial purposes. Considering this point, many difficulties arise. For example, work may be blocked if the program evaluates your actions as commercial. Expansion of functionality is no longer free. Also, for free, you won't be able to set up round-the-clock access. To fully use the application, you will have to pay, and the amount is not so small.

Thus, despite all the advantages, this application is not always suitable for long-term use. But if you need to perform any operation once via remote access, this is ideal.

If you want to work for a long period, you will either have to pay for the full version or be prepared that at any time the use will be terminated by the administrator.

Until recently, TeamViewer was probably the only decent program of its kind. Or it was so advertised and promoted that it simply outshined all competitors. However, today there are other utilities in the arena that are no worse than the previous one, in some moments even better. One such Supremo.

The program practically does not differ from the popular TeamViewer, it is just as easy to use, has a simple and understandable interface for everyone, is portable, does not require installation and is ready to start working at any time. The application does not install its services. There is a full-screen mode of showing the workspace on another PC, chat and other functions. It is also worth noting the speed - it is higher than in the previous utility - files are transferred especially simply and quickly. Another advantage that many users have appreciated is a password consisting only of numbers, no matter how strange it may sound. Some even ditched a popular competitor and switched to Supremo precisely because of this moment. I explain. To control someone else's computer, you need to get a password and transfer it along with the ID number to another user. (The algorithm is the same in both programs.) The difference is that TeamViewer generates passwords from Latin letters and numbers, while Supremo is limited to numbers. Of course, it will immediately seem that this is unimportant, but those who are faced with attempts to pass the password to elderly relatives will consider it an argument. It is much easier to dictate numbers than a tricky password. Especially for those who do not use SMS and do not know the difference between the letters "J" and "g", for example. And the point is not in intelligence, but in age.

Of course, TeamViewer also has settings to simplify the password system, etc., but in this program everything is simplified to the point.

You can download the utility for free via a direct link from the developer's official website. The file size is 2-3 MB.

Supremo work algorithm (similar to TeamViewer)

Remote control of another computer requires a program on both devices.

  • Run the utility and click on the installer, confirm the agreement with the licensing requirements.
  • The next step is to press "Start" on the computer to which you are accessing.
  • You get secret code and ID, then share them with a like-minded user.
  • Your "friend" must enter the data received from you in the line called "Partner ID" and connect.
  • Then he must enter the password, at the same time you will see a window asking you to confirm the operation (it will automatically disappear after ten seconds). After that, your friend gets full access to your PC, both visual and technical.

Now he will be able to perform various configurations on your behalf: installing and removing software, cleaning the registry, viewing personal files, etc. A hidden window with your monitor will appear in front of him, which he, by clicking on it, will be able to expand. I recommend turning off all visual effects (Aero, wallpaper, etc.), as the transfer speed between computers will noticeably deteriorate. For correspondence, you can enable Chat, for transferring files, you can launch the file manager.

Quite a handy and practical utility that consists of several podcasts. The first part is Server, we immediately install it and run it on someone else's computer, the second is Viewer, which allows us to be guided by another PC. The utility requires a little more knowledge than other programs. Working with the server is not so difficult, you can set the user ID yourself, the program remembers the data and no longer requires re-entering and confirming information. Free version for personal use - LiteManager Free.

Besides remote throttling, Chat, data export and registry cleaning, there are several interesting opportunities: monitor capture, inventory, remote deletion. Free use is available to work on thirty computers, no restrictions in the time frame of the program are excluded, there is a customization functionIDfor cooperative use. Free and for business use.

There are practically no drawbacks, but some of the inconveniences in the free version are reduced capabilities when working on more than thirty PCs. In general, the program is quite convenient and effective for administration and remote control.

Ammy admin

A utility that is also identical to the TeamViewer program, but much easier to use. The main functions are: Chat, file transfer, view and guide the remote computer. Ease of use does not require serious awareness, you can use it both in local and in the world wide web.

The disadvantages may seem like a limited amount of working time, it is paid for business activities. The presented utility, perhaps, is better not to be used for serious manipulations.

One of the original paid software for remote manipulation of third-party computers, designed for operational administration with a focus on security. The utility consists of two parts: a server and a client. The main task of the program is to work with an IP address, installation is required. Without special skills, it will be difficult to understand all the functions, so it is not suitable for novice users.

As expected, the program runs at high speeds thanks to the graphics driver, there are practically no lags and freezes. The built-in Intel AMT technique allows you to access the BIOS of someone else's PC and perform various operations with it. The program has no extraordinary features other than reliability and safety. The main modes are built in: Chat, file export, remote control.

There are several flaws: the lack of a mobile client and work without an IP address, free version available only for a month, graphic restrictions disable personalization (the monitor may go out), experience is required to work with the utility.

So, we can conclude that this program should be used by experienced users to administer a PC in local mode. To work on the Internet, you will most likely need to run a VPN tunnel.

In principle, at least 5 more programs can be noted, but this makes no sense: all the necessary functions are performed by the utilities listed above. The functionality of these programs is not very different. Some are completely free, but have their drawbacks, while others have more options, but you have to pay. Some, moreover, have a license for a year, so for long-term use you will have to fork out for its renewal. So you should choose based on your goal. These programs are quite suitable for non-commercial use. You can even combine several at once.
