Meizu m5 camera in applications. Battery editorial test results. Appearance and usability

  • Crisp, color-accurate display
  • The system is fast
  • Newest, very comfortable software shell
  • Decent cameras
  • Poorly shoots video
  • Slow at gaming and multitasking
  • Autonomy is worse than it could be with a 3000 mAh battery
  • Marked case

Smartphone buyers are divided into those who are given functions like a flagship, but inexpensive, and those who turned all these functions on a family budget - they just need the maximum cheap smartphone that will be a pleasure to use. If you belong to the second camp, you've come to the right place.

Last point: the macro has a real problem to focus on small objects from close-ups. The camera app is simple, with an interface similar to the one that most brands already equip. Battery autonomy is probably the worst we found in our analysis. While the advantages are superior to other mobile devices at the same price, there are too many ups and downs in its autonomy.

The problem is that it can hardly last more than a day without requiring an urgent plug. And if you devote yourself to watching a video or playing a game, even more so. It looks like the consumption of the screen is very light, while the consumption of other components is not. This may be due to a multitasking optimization issue. It has a battery saving mode, but it doesn't help much when it drops by 30%. If you are away from home and you see yourself in this situation, you have a very important problem. Another advantage is that at least it doesn't take long to fully load.

Budget smartphones are the “bone in the throat” of all technical media. They will not be able to cut down the excitement with “yellow” articles like “Galaxy S8 - a failure? 5 reasons why I will never buy this smartphone! ”, Even unpopular bloggers do not want to take them as a barter for an advertising review (because after the flagship you don’t want to switch to such a smartphone, and it’s also difficult to sell it on Avito). Journalists are also cool about inexpensive models, because “there is no life beyond the Moscow Ring Road” and “anyone can save up on Xiaomi Mi 5s from Aliexpress”). And even marketers of manufacturing companies are afraid of reviews of "state employees" like fire - it is better to let there be no review than to write somewhere that the new budget smartphone is terrible. Nobody likes budget smartphones! Nobody but buyers.

In just two hours, you can go from 10 to 100% faster than other terminals. It does not have a fast load, and it would be unfair to demand it, as this is a characteristic that is now starting to reach the middle of the range. The package includes a charging cable and AC adapter, everything you need to charge and transfer data from your computer.

It is understood that the manufacturer has expanded this option so cheap. We enjoyed it during the review, and it's that once you get used to surfing at full speed at home, you don't want to go back to your previous connection. This is not only Meizu's resignation, but also not the most important. Surprisingly, it lacks a feature that is starting to gain importance in mobile payments.

In real Russia, and not in the rosy dreams of reviewers and manufacturers, half of all sold in Russia smart phones cost less than 10 thousand rubles. And it's time to start figuring out who is who among these models.

Previously, the younger Meizu models received the “mini” suffix - M1 Mini, M2 Mini, M3s Mini (although this name was given to the smartphone already in Russia). But then the manufacturers realized that "", and it is better to have some extraneous index in the name than a clear hint that "I would have bought a maxi, but there was not enough money." The name was completely shoveled also because the Chinese name of the smartphone, Blue Charm A5, is translated into Russian as "Blue Charm", or as "Blue Seduction". The East is a delicate matter, but we just got out of the habit of joking about the word "Huawei", so let it be "em three tse", if only the smartphone was good.

The speaker located at the bottom is rather limited. The sound sounds rather empty, distorting as the volume increases. If you are going to give basic usage, it is sufficient, but certainly not recommended for music lovers. The best Chinese mobile phones to buy from Spain.

The first is apparently the price - 149 euros, which brings us to the inevitable question: can you buy something better at this price? The answer sounds rather complicated. It is understandable that it has its own problems, as the discrete camera pulls regulation and reduces battery autonomy, but generally deserves every euro it costs. You can of course buy it in Spain through the brand's official website with all legal guarantees. Honestly, you can't ask for more, although you can ask for more if you're willing to scratch your pocket.

And it promises to be good - everything that is not important for beginners (Wi-Fi 5 GHz, fingerprint scanner, NFC, dual camera) was thrown out of the M5C, but kept good screen, a battery of normal capacity and a quad-core processor. On the one hand, there are almost no noticeably cooler models in Russian retail at this price, on the other hand, there are plenty of smartphones with the same price and characteristics in Russia. It is not very clear whether it will turn out Meizu is better or worse. But folk wisdom says that it is better to test it once, that it is better to re-read the specification plate a hundred times, so today we will check whether the state employee “under Meizu sauce” differs from other smartphones for the same money, and whether it is worth buying at all.

Simple, professional and user-friendly design in equal parts

We'll also have a gold model, another blue and cheerful mint green. It also includes a front sensor whose resolution is currently undetected. As usual, we will have to verify this in order to refute or confirm this claim. Elegant design that perfectly combines the comfort you feel when holding it with a first impression that is more than wonderful to the naked eye.

In order to have a 2-inch screen, it is not compact, but it is true that it is not too big either. It stays within the fields they do, highlighting nothing, leaving nothing bad. The device is built under a polycarbonate casing, which can be found in a variety of colors. We particularly enjoy its black version, a tone that suits you with a thousand wonders and highlights its strongest design meaning: a sense of professionalism. Perhaps this is the biggest drawback though: prints, because he doesn't avoid excess of them.

In some frames, both in their lower part and in the upper part, a little more than, a priori, seems necessary; but leaving this little detail, which is hardly appreciated, the feeling is very positive. The front camera is at the top center and back in a similar situation, albeit slightly lower.

Say that, yes, what left us with something cold, the sound has nothing to do with the other world. The experience of using the fingerprint is worth mentioning in this section. The sensor is located on a single button and does respond, yes, before you press it. But what was said was once done, the answer is very quick and effective, and that is that during the whole week it did not give us any recognition problem. There should be no doubt.

Design and management

Nodding at the new Meizu smartphones and saying that they look like iPhones is like seeing a Zhiguli-kopeck on the street and yelling that it was copied from Fiat. The discoveries are of the same order, because Meizu has been producing smartphones with an "iPhone-like" design since 2009, when the very first iPhone and iPhone 3G were sold. The joke is that Apple, which has all the iPhones on the same face, has significantly changed the iPhone over these 8 years, and the Chinese engineering thought did not keep up with it - today the Meizu models are more like Chinese "retellings on the topic" than close copy of iPhone in a new design.

It also highlights the lack of a menu and all applications will be available on different desktops. All of this, and here comes one of the most strengths terminal, is managed by a theme manager, which will allow us to install and test dozens of themes completely and free of charge. Of all the colors, the design is more or less minimalist, or even with looks similar to other layers or systems.

Of course, we also find some enhancing aspects on the device's screen. More precisely, we emphasize two negative aspects associated with the same point: the brightness contrast and the brightness of the screen itself. There were a few moments during those days where the screen reflection was not as good as one might expect, and this is closely related to the need for perhaps more power in the brightness of the device itself. While it is true that this second, to very biased lines, something that just happens is perceived.

And the M5C is certainly not the most beautiful smartphone cheaper than 10 thousand rubles, but one of them - only the remnants of unsold Honor 5C () and the glass-metal Alcatel Shine Lite () look cooler, in which there is nothing good, except for a cool design. And Xiaomi Redmi 4A, in comparison with our hero, is boring, like slides in a school presentation.

The new Meizu has an unprecedented amount of colors - the body can be dark gray, blue, gold, pink or red. The first version came to our test, and it looks very harsh. Black bezel, solid charcoal gray, almost black back cover(there are no inserts for antennas in the plastic case), black side keys, black camera lens, black raven, why are you curling... Only the yellow round flash on the rear panel and the "chrome" edging of the key under the screen stand out. You put on such a black tailcoat, black glasses, take a black umbrella and Meizu, and go to work. Fashionable, stylish, youthful.

While the bad weather in Madrid did not help at all in this aspect, there is no doubt that this is a very simple camera. Normal images, with very normal quality that we can find in other models on the market. Although, as we mentioned, for a device in this range, this may not be required for high-performance features. In low light conditions or strong contrasts in the frame, the camera gives a rather improved result.

Undoubtedly, given its characteristics and, above all, its price, it has fulfilled our expectations. We were curious to see that, despite the metal construction, it is relatively easy to leave fingerprints in the back and that there is enough dust to trap. Thanks to this inspiration, we have a very nice device with an unbeatable design compared to its predecessors, but because it has rather large frames, both on the bottom and on the top and sides. At the bottom we find the main speaker, charging port, microphone and 5mm headphone jack.

Such plastic is more pleasant to the touch than cheap "pan" metal with rough paint from competitors, but in black the M5C is very easily soiled - prints are clearly visible both on the front glass panel (the oleophobic coating is so-so) and on the oily plastic on the back.

The iPhone always looks beautiful. Even when he's not an iPhone

It would be better if Meizu took an example not from Apple, but from Samsung and introduced full three slots for 2x SIM + microSD instead of the hybrid version. It is also a pity that the smartphone does not have a fingerprint scanner - Honor 6A, Wileyfox Swift 2 and Moto E for 10 thousand are not deprived of such a function.

On the front panel of the device we find one button that will act as a fingerprint reader, home and back buttons and on top, sensors, speakers for calls and a front camera. In addition, in addition to the minimum brightness, we have an eye protection mode that we can activate from quick settings notification bars that will filter blue light and avoid visual fatigue when rendering a screen with no light. But the takeaway about this screen is that it is one of the best we can find on the market at this price, because it is very good.

Screen and sound

The display in the Meizu M5C is of high quality, you can find fault with the little things, but the overall impression of this does not change - by the standards of state employees it pulls a solid four out of five points. The clarity is average, because in models cheaper than 10 thousand more Full resolution HD is still a rarity. For example, even more expensive Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016) display shows looser text due to the peculiarities of the structure of the pixels in AMOLED and 5.2 inches diagonal. And there is the aforementioned Wileyfox and Honor with "honest" Full HD IPS.

Camera, behaves well, but scattered results

The front camera is well suited for its function, so we will not stop long as we prefer to talk more about the camera app, which we can say is very complete.

Performance and experience

We cannot deny that the system is moving very smoothly, everything is working as it should, and there is no slowdown or lag, so nothing can be attributed to this terminal in this regard.

Also, if we go to the high-performance mode that we find in the battery section, there won't be any name that will resist us. To access multitasking, we have to slide from the bottom of the terminal, although we had a problem in this regard because sometimes we would open up multitasking when we wanted to press the spacebar. Indeed, it gave us a good result: about 6 hours of active screen, with varied uses. We'll assume this is our block and hopefully update software to optimize mobile device in this regard.

But Meizu did not let the color rendition take its course - shades and saturation close to the ideal (and not in excess, as in most modern mobile phones). The viewing angles are excellent, so your bus neighbor will be able to read your VKontakte correspondence with the same convenience as you.

There are two flaws in the display of the Meizu M5C. The first is white balance shifted to cool tones. It is now fashionable for the blue to splash not only in live broadcasts on NTV, but also in white on the screens of smartphones. And this is fixable by adjusting the color temperature in the Android settings.

Apart from this detail, this mobile phone which you will surely get to the end of the day with while your cell phone is still on battery. And do you know all the possibilities that it offers you? Already own one but don't know how to get more out of it?

First, we want to show you a video in which one of our experts analyzes the terminal. In addition, its 8 cores guarantee the flexibility of a smartphone in intensive use conditions, such as games with impressive graphics. Also graphics processor has a lot in common in this aspect as its 64-bit architecture improves image reproduction and multimedia rendering.

The screen is good in itself, but the attempts of the system to make it brighter upset

The second drawback is more annoying - electronic non-disconnectable, ahem, absurdity in every way "pulls" the contrast and lightens / darkens the display (gamma jumps from 2.6 to 1.7), so that it seems as if the potential of the screen, oh, what a flagship! On the one hand, this allows the smartphone to wind up the contrast ratio as much as 1800: 1. On the other hand, it has the effect of "recoloring the grass before the president's arrival." It seems that everything is dictated by good intentions and friendliness, but it is not very pleasant to watch when the display becomes lighter or darker depending on which photo you open on social networks.

Since it is intuitive and intuitive, you can hold and unlock it at the same time safely without fear of falling to the ground as this capacitive touch sensor is capable of 360-degree identification of your fingerprint. To configure this setting, we need to access the settings in our terminal menu. When we enter a security code as an alternative security method, we will ask you to place your finger on the sensor several times and in several different positions.

Once our fingerprint is registered, we can use it to lock the screen by activating the Phone Password option, which you will find just above the previous option. Plus, it has 403 pixels per inch, producing images with incredible sharpness.

The sound quality in the headphones in the headphones of the Meizu M5C is average - neither good nor bad. I understand that a budget processor of the 2015 model (with a re-glued nameplate) has nothing to boast about. And that Meizu was blinded from what it was, sound suitable for the majority - they slightly muffled the high frequencies, which always sound dirty in budget chips, compensated for this by "boosting" the mids and piled up the bass. In general, in vacuum "plugs" you feel yourself locked in a closet with a radio tape recorder beaten with life, which yells at maximum volume. And on the last two divisions of volume (there are 17 of them in total), the bass "falls through", and the high frequencies become sharper and "melt the brain." The monitor headphones (60 Ohm) lack volume, the clarity of the sound is muffled (which is not bad, because the audio path in the MT6737 is so-so), there are many high frequencies, the middle is "thin", the bass barely makes itself felt.

But don't miss out on your superior amplified sound with its exclusive rectangular outputs that deliver more balanced and natural sound. It is a technology that improves the processing of light and gives it a focusing speed that very few terminals can achieve. In short, it is based on splitting light into two beams that reach different sensors: depending on how the light reaches each of them, the level of focus of the scene will be determined. Thanks to this, we can get even more details.

Plus, it focuses for just 0.2 seconds and lets you record videos freely and take great pictures even with one hand. It also has a dual-tone flash that gives you artificial lighting with a more natural result. Maintenance your his.

It happens even worse - in the Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017), for example. There, a screeching and at the same time dirty sound makes itself felt at any volume level. But in the same Xiaomi Redmi 4A, the sound is much better quality initially, and the ancient under control, it's scary to say, Snapdragon 410 sounded better. It probably makes sense to slightly improve the sound of the Meizu M5C with "twists" in the preset equalizer, but if you differ in MP3 at 160 kb / s at 320 kb / s, look for something based on Qualcomm or at least Meizu MX6 - it has Helio X20 "Sings" much better.

The sound is not disgusting, but there is absolutely nothing to praise it for

The speaker is average in volume and squeaky, like a cat on its way to the refrigerator. Too many sibilant-squealing effects, I even remembered the speaker of my deceased - he pushed and whistled ringtones in a similar way. The high-frequency sound is slightly smoothed out by the plastic case (in the metal Meizu M3s mini, I remember, the dynamics even showed the effects of the "sawmill", but there are much more musical mobile phones for the money.

Iron

Budget smartphones are cheaper than 10 thousand rubles in Russia - these are almost always quad-cores in a bad (that is, far from the level of Snapdragon 820) sense of the word. Really powerful smartphones can be counted on the fingers, and they have almost "taken off" from the official retail (the same Wileyfox Swift 2 has already been replaced by the more expensive 2X almost everywhere). And on this one could end the story with the words "take any, there is no difference", but in reality budget processors about the "four heads" differ from each other.

Because Qualcomm's budget chips have evolved at least since the times of Snapdragon 410 (Samsung Galaxy S4 mini) - engineers, for the most part, were playing the fool, but they slightly overclocked the cores and the video accelerator, "screwed on" a faster modem (so that smartphones feel better in LTE networks) and slightly more modern drives. These processors are now called Snapdragon 425/427.

And now a five-minute public censure of MediaTek - these noble gentlemen released back in 2014 released a quad-core budget MT6732 ( Sony Xperia E4g) which. Anyway, in 2014, MediaTek bypassed Qualcomm on almost all fronts - MT6752 with eight cores also bypassed Snapdragon 615 and was cheaper.

And then MediaTek rolled downhill: first, in 2015, the MT6735 was born with a strangled (from 1.5 to 1.3 GHz) processor part and a new, low-power Mali-T720 video accelerator instead of the Mali-T760. The scale of the "castration" of the chip did not suit the Chinese, so a little later an even more flawed "brake", MT6735P, with 1.0 GHz on the cores, was released. And, finally, the crown of creation is the newest and slowest MT6737 chip with 1.3 GHz cores, but with slower RAM and once again carefully "chopped off" Mali-T720 video accelerator.

Meizu runs fast even with a very weak processor on board

Why am I all this? And to the fact that Meizu and Qualcomm until recently were sworn enemies () and gnawed each other's throats in court. As a result, a truce was concluded, Meizu is now paying royalties to Qualcomm and supposedly someday will even install Snapdragon inside its smartphones instead of MediaTek. Someday, but not now.

Therefore, the same "masterpiece" MT6737 is working in Meizu M5C, which is enough only for correspondence and unhurried scrolling of the "Internet", but with grief in half and stuttering - for games.

It only saves that Meizu is ideally "licked" for such tasks software part- in comparison with smartphones ASUS or Nokia for the same money, the smartphone simply "flies", and I can't even believe that one of the weakest smartphone processors of our time is installed inside.

Software

If you suddenly forgot or did not know - in Meizu you can control the system using one key under the screen. Touch the key - the virtual "back" key is triggered. Press - the "Home" key. Swipe up from the bottom of the display - a list of open applications. At first, scary and unusual, but there is some charm in this and a difference from smartphones of all other manufacturers.

Little remains of the standard Android in Meizu - everything has been redrawn, only applications from Google play... Perhaps it is for the better - in beauty Meizu design and Xiaomi were and still are trendsetters like Samsung.

A side effect of such self-activity is the slow renewal of the Android version(which determines whether the new application will be compatible with your phone or not) and "whistles" in the form of a shell update instead of full-scale improvements in step with Google. Therefore, the old Android 6.0 of the 2015-2016 season is already installed in the Meizu M5C.

Flyme shell looks good and is undemanding to processor power

But so far this fact does not cause problems (especially in a budget smartphone, where applications in the future will not be pulled by the processor, not the system), but the new Flyme OS 6 shell in our smartphone is an amazingly nice thing!

For example, it has a system for pre-caching frequently used applications. That is, Flyme remembers which applications and when you turn on (the schedule of trains after work, for example), and drives them into RAM such software in advance so that it starts instantly. This is partly why the M5C is so fast with a weak processor.

Well, and a lot more pleasant things - the ability to put a password on contacts, applications or any files in the system, enable a simplified system display mode for the elderly, an explanation of which application eats how much memory in the background (list of open applications) and a new design. It looks and works great, although in the Russian version the smartphone is packed with links to games and applications from Sberbank and Yandex (can be removed).

Cameras

By the standards of the majority budget smartphones, the camera in the Meizu M5C is good. Not great, but with clear work algorithms - you can take a good shot on it even at night.

You just need to remember this - in spite of the f / 2.0 aperture (with which the smartphone, it seems, should “see well in the dark and shadow”), the budget Meizu suffers most of all from the lack of lighting for the rear sensor. Where middle-class smartphones will give out a "rough" picture in the evening, which will show a building and a lantern nearby, Meizu will give out just a black screen. And the flash also will not "finish off" the required distance.

After accepting these conventions, you will be able to take pictures that are pleasing to the eye, especially during the day. Perhaps, Xiaomi Redmi 4A will be able to repeat something similar, but the same BQS, Micromax and Samsung at the price are very unlikely.

The camera darkens (in the literal sense of the word) in night shooting, but gives high-quality photos during the day

At night from the notorious "blindness" does not even save manual mode which is not very tame. That is, it does not bite, of course, but there is no access to shutter speed adjustment, and the only useful tool is ISO adjustment. At low and medium ISO levels (100-400), night photos are of high quality, but if you want to "twist" the picture so that it is not a little darkish, you will get "peas" in the photo, that is, shock doses of digital noise. And the same indecency at night will create auto-mode, if you do not monitor the exposure level (lighter-darker) manually.

Video shooting is limited to a resolution of 1280x720 pixels - thanks to a flawed processor. The camera in this mode also does not work miracles, and without software stabilization, it shoots "jumping" videos of average quality during the day, and terrible quality at night.

For self-portraits, the budget Meizu is suitable - during the day the quality of selfies is very good, at night the picture is blurred, the reaction of the front camera is I am. It is unlikely that you will be able to achieve a clear self-portrait at night.

For a long time, Meizu had “mini-smartphones” at a lower price than Xiaomi's younger Redmi. When, by the fourth generation, Redmi's "minimal salary" took shape as metal eight-core models with a fingerprint scanner, Xiaomi made a feint with their ears and released a cheaper Redmi 4A. With the exception of MIUI skins and the nameplate on the case, this model has nothing to do with “just Redmi”.

And for this, Xiaomi fans dislike her. Because the design is incredibly dull, there is no speed usual for Xiaomi, the display is not as bright as in Redmi 4X, the camera is worse, the autonomy is worse, the difference in price with the older model in the Chinese market is symbolic (1000-1200 rubles). Even the most frugal comrades understand that the overpayment is worth it.

Russian realities look different - here they ask for 12 thousand rubles for Redmi 4X, and the younger plastic version will cost 9 thousand. Somehow not very cheap in comparison with 6.5 thousand in China, but take my word for it - this is still a very cool model in comparison with the rabble that cellular salons offer us in the budget "up to 10 thousand".

Compared to our hero, Xiaomi offers more fast processor, a slightly less bright screen, absolutely no looking body (looks better in a case than without a case), better sound in the headphones and out of the speaker. The rear cameras differ slightly, although Xiaomi is clearly ahead in the quality of daytime video shooting. Front-camera slightly better in Meizu. And the M5C also opens the menu faster and switches between applications - surprising but true. Perhaps the role of smart preloading of applications plays a role, if it is used in this model at all. Or we simply observe more "straight arms" software engineers Meizu versus Xiaomi peers.

An attraction of unprecedented generosity - metal smartphone with a fingerprint scanner and an eight-core processor for 9 thousand rubles! Such a purchase looks reasonable even on Aliexpress, but in Russian cellular stores it is generally something unthinkable.

Don't think Huawei is doing charity work. Firstly, you will be greeted by a dull display that gets dirty almost instantly (the oleophobic was not delivered) and is almost hopeless when used outdoors. If the rear camera can somehow compete with the one in the Meizu M5C (and even that is not a fact), then the front camera is completely disappointing. But the new operating system, performance (especially in games for this kind of money), a beautiful case and autonomy, at least not worse than in Meizu. In general, a local Russian version for those who miss a powerful processor in budget models.

conclusions

One side, budget version the budget model (from the "full-fledged" Meizu M5s to the average Meizu M5 and so on) is already overkill. Terribly weak processor, autonomy and camera "like everyone else", there are no special "bells and whistles". On the other hand - good display, fast work of Android in applications, a new and convenient version of the Chinese shell, high-quality cameras in daytime shooting.

  • Marked case
  • Meizu M5 - Chinese budget employee on a processor entry level with a modest HD screen and the same modest technical characteristics... Nevertheless, these are the smartphones we buy most often. Apple flagships, Samsung or Huawei are interesting, but inexpensive phones are in the pockets and bags of the lion's share of users. Why? They provide basic needs, and, as a rule, we do not require more from a smartphone.

The purpose of the Meizu M5 review is to understand the main features of the smartphone. How long does it hold the battery, how well the screen is readable in the sun, what can you expect in terms of performance. Since we all love to listen to music, and we prefer to listen to it in good quality, we will pay attention to the sound quality in headphones. And, of course, the Meizu M5 camera will not remain out of sight - we will also appreciate the photographic abilities of the phone.

Meizu M5: battery and autonomy rating

Compared to the Meizu M3, the battery capacity of the Meizu M5 has grown, but many may think that the battery with the capacity 3070 mAh modern phone few. When it comes to a flagship with a QHD screen resolution and the most powerful processor, the way it is. But when we talk about a budget employee with a 720p display resolution and a processor clock speed of 1.5 GHz, the situation changes.

Meizu M5 battery life on a single charge.
    Meizu M5
    Battery 3070 mAh
    Autonomy rating 76 hours
    3G calls 15:26
    Internet 10:27
    Video 10:26

The battery of Meizu M5 does not break records, but in general it copes with its functions. An autonomy rating of 76 hours means that if you watch videos, use the Internet and talk on the phone for one hour a day, the battery will last for 3 days. With the screen active, the Meizu M5's battery lasts about 10 hours, which is also good. However, if the autonomy of the phone has for you great importance, you can find inexpensive samples with a much more powerful battery. For example, m5 note ().

Meizu M5: specifications and screen tests

Meizu M5 screen with resolution 720 x 1280 pixels - a necessary measure, which is explained by the low processing power of the processor. With a Full HD display, the smartphone would become too slow, and the base chipset could easily cope with a small number of pixels.

Diagonal IPS screen Meizu M5 - 5.2 inch... Slightly more than its predecessor, but less than the m5 note. Pixel density in the area 282 ppi, the ratio of the screen area to the total area of the front panel is about 70%. Standard characteristics for budget smartphones, it remains to check the screen in action.

According to the test results, the screen of the Meizu M5 even surpasses expectations. Black Depth 0.453 cd / m2 Max brightness 480 nits, contrast ratio of 1060: 1. I must say that similar indicators are sometimes found among flagships, and for smartphones of average price segment they are generally the norm. Well, by the standards of state employees, the Meizu M5 has an excellent screen!

Color accuracy is good with a color accuracy ratio (DeltaE) of 6.5. Readability in the sun deserves separate flattering words. The phone uses full screen lamination technology, which reduces reflection and makes the display anti-glare. Apparently, it is this technology that Meizu M5 owes to the fact that the screen is ahead of many competitors in terms of readability in the sun. And it is much better than the m3 / m5 note!

    Smartphone Meizu M5: hardware specifications

Computing unit Meizu M5 is built around MediaTek processor MT6750, which in the table of ranks is one notch below the budget Helio P10. Number of cores - 8, architecture - reference ARM Cortex A53, clock frequency- 1.5 GHz. The graphics accelerator is not a very successful Mali-T860MP2, which does not shine with a high frame rate.

The phone has 2 GB of RAM or 3 GB depending on the configuration. Considering that this is a slow LPDDR3 RAM operating at 666 MHz, it is better not to run a large number of applications, especially heavy ones. The benchmark results show where the Meizu M5 ranks in the overall hierarchy in terms of processing power. In GeekBench 3 and Antutu 6 tests, it demonstrates unenviable stability.

Nevertheless, in general, the power of the hardware is enough for a smooth, although not very fast work operating system, which is presented here by the way Android 6. No one is immune from slowdowns, freezes and crashes, although with timely closing of applications, their number can be minimized.

When working with graphics, we see a curious situation - Meizu M5 is ahead of many in Onscreen tests, that is, with the native screen resolution. We have already briefly mentioned how this is explained. An HD screen makes it easy for a graphics accelerator, and other smartphones in the tests have a Full HD screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels.

Output? Thanks to the small screen resolution on the Meizu M5, it will even be possible to run modern games, although it is better to do this with the minimum graphics settings.

    Meizu M5: camera

Meizu M5 camera specifications are typical for modern smartphones, not only state employees. Permission 13 megapixels, aperture f / 2.2, phase auto focus, HDR and panoramic shooting are supported, video can be recorded in 1080p resolution at 30 fps. A front camera with a resolution of 5 megapixels and an aperture ratio of 2 is also in the order of things.

The question is, what kind of pictures can you get with this standard camera? The check shows that Meizu M5 takes good photos for a budget employee. Highly rated are color saturation, contrast, white balance and dynamic range. Detail is lame, and with it sharpness and focusing accuracy. There is a lot of noise, and all these problems are exacerbated when trying to take a photo in low light.

If you like to take pictures at night, you need to look for another smartphone. If there are no special complaints about the camera, you can stop at the Meizu M5. Examples of photos are on the slider, and 100% of the crop can be viewed.

    Meizu M5: sound quality

Some Meizu smartphones produce very high-quality sound in headphones - with minimal non-linear distortion, good dynamic range and uniform signal amplification at all frequencies. For example, Meizu m3 note.

Meizu M5 does not have everything in order with the sound quality, although the shortcomings are not critical. Connecting a headset increases intermodulation distortion. The signal is unevenly amplified at different frequencies, and the signal-to-noise ratio leaves much to be desired. As for the built-in speaker, it sounds frankly bad.

Meizu M5: design, interfaces and general characteristics

The phone is made of polycarbonate (plastic), the build quality raises no objections. This is not to say that Meizu M5 looks "premium", as, for example, Huawei nova, but the price is also appropriate. But the Meizu M5 has a multifunctional Home button with support for mTouch technology, which its predecessor, Meizu M3, did not have. When touched, the Back function is triggered, when pressed, the home screen opens. A fingerprint scanner is integrated into the same button, which works without errors.

SIM card tray and microSD cards is on the left side, the power button and volume rocker are on the right, as it should be. 3.5 mm audio jack and microUSB - at the bottom along with a speaker and microphone. The camera is in the center of the rear panel, just below it is the flash. The screen is covered with a protective 2.5D glass, which one is not specified.

Results of the Meizu M5 review

The main advantage of the phone is its relatively low cost. "Relatively", because with a small surcharge, you can buy a phone with a higher-end processor, more high-quality screen and a powerful battery. Although also Chinese ...

The buyer of Meizu M5 should tune in to the fact that there may be problems with signal stability cellular communication, crashes from applications, some other malfunctions, for example, wild battery consumption for no apparent reason. Unfortunately cheap chinese smartphones this is a sin, and one device can work normally, while the other, exactly the same, will junk. No one is immune from this. However, mechanical buttons break on the seventh iPhones, too, let's not forget about that.

The advantage of Meizu M5 can be called a display with good brightness and readability in the sun, albeit with HD resolution. Autonomy at a decent level. Disadvantages? The Meizu M5 has a weak processor - in the budget segment there are phones with a more powerful chipset.

If you have used or are using Meizu M5 (or other Meizu smartphone, Xiaomi and others Chinese brands), share your impressions in the comments. Especially if you think that our conclusions do not really correspond. Thanks in advance, and thanks for staying with Five-Inches. We are always glad to see you on our pages!
