How to start promoting a channel on YouTube. YouTube channel promotion strategy. Cashbox is a large promotion exchange

Currently, YouTube is becoming more and more popular, it replaces television for many people. There you can find almost everything, from entertaining videos to videos with useful information. More and more people are becoming vloggers and regularly upload videos to the channel. Many vloggers have become so popular that YouTube has become a job and a good source of income for them.

If you, watching other video bloggers, are increasingly thinking about creating own channel on YouTube, I will give you a number of advantages for which you should start video blogging:

  1. You will become more self-confident, as constant shooting on camera, communication with subscribers will constantly contribute to this.
  2. You will become a creative person and will be able to show your creativity.
  3. Find your like-minded people and new friends.
  4. You will constantly develop in the chosen subject.
  5. You can earn money on your YouTube channel.
  6. If you have your own business, then with the help of your channel you will receive new customers and make your business even more famous.

However, despite all the benefits, you should understand that vlogging is quite a lot of work that requires your time. If you want to make your channel popular, then you must work on it regularly.

But if you have made a firm decision to create your own video blog, then read this article to the end. From it you will learn how to promote a YouTube channel from scratch and get your first 1000 subscribers.

Content

The most important factor in determining the popularity of your channel is content. After all, any channel is created for people, and it is important that the videos are useful and solve people's problems or entertain them. In general, there are 3 types of channels:

  • Entertainment;
  • Educational;
  • Reviews.

It is important that your channel meets the needs of the viewers, otherwise no one will want to subscribe to you. That's why, Firstly, your channel should be on a specific topic. Shooting videos on various topics is now ineffective, because Lately the number of channels has grown a lot, and the wider your subject matter, the more competitors you have and the more difficult it is, accordingly, to promote your channel. Yes, and people are better at subscribing to channels with a narrow theme, because they meet their needs as accurately as possible.

Secondly, The theme you choose should be something you like. If you shoot on topics that you are not interested in, then you will quickly get tired of it, and you will not be able to make your channel successful. And even if there are a lot of competitors in your favorite topic, you should not pay attention to it. And to make your journey easier, you can bring uniqueness to your videos and narrow down your topics as much as possible, which will make you stand out from the competition. .

Thirdly, shoot videos on popular topics in your niche. This is very important at the first stage, because. no one knows you yet, you have few views, and you should first of all focus on the topics that people are looking for in the search. This way they will find your videos, and some of these people will undoubtedly subscribe to your channel. For example, a video titled "My houseplant collection" is unlikely to get many views. But a video with the title "How to transplant a violet" will be much more popular. Because people themselves are looking for such a video, they need to solve their problem. Therefore, make a list of popular topics and shoot videos on them. And the wordstat.yandex.ru service will help you in finding popular topics, as well as video analysis of your competitors. See which videos get the most views from them and make videos on the same topics.

Correct channel design

Make a beautiful header for your channel, write what it is about, choose colorful pictures with titles for each video, break all your videos into playlists that are dedicated to a specific subtopic. People usually visit first home page channel and only then decide to subscribe.

Shoot as many videos as you can

How more videos on your channel, the more likely people are to find them and learn about your channel. Accordingly, you will have more subscribers.

Maximum PR video

After uploading each video, do your best to let as many people as possible know about it. Post the video on all your social networks. If you have a subscriber base, send a link to this video to it. If you have money, post this video on someone else's popular social media group.

The thing is that within two days YouTube analyzes your video and tries to understand whether it is interesting to people. And the more views it gains, the more total viewing time, the more likes and comments, the higher YouTube will put this video in the search and will show similar videos more often. Therefore, the first two days have highest value to promote the video.

Screensaver at the end of the video

Make an intro at the end of each video and include links to your other videos. They can be issued in the form of pictures with inscriptions or an excerpt from the video. This will make it clear to new viewers that you have not one single video, but a lot of useful content on this topic. It will also increase the number of views of your videos.

In addition to this, do "Subscribe" button at the end of each video, say a call to subscribe to your channel, otherwise the person may simply forget to do it.

Compliance with these simple rules will allow you to quickly gain your first thousand subscribers. This I can tell by own experience. When I first started my channel, I didn't use many of these rules, and the number of subscribers grew very slowly. But as soon as I started doing what I told you about today, the number of subscribers and views per month tripled.

In contact with

» I want to tell you what and how to do so that your channel becomes successful in the future. Today I will give you instructions on how to how to promote a channel for freeYouTube And how to get subscribers to your channel.

I would like to make a reservation right away, for those who value personal time very much, or simply don’t have it, there is also a way out. Do you need views, likes, comments under the video, subscribers to the channel, all this without labor costs and in the shortest possible time? The promotion and promotion service will help you - social like. Only effective methods, democratic prices and, of course, complete confidentiality of cooperation.

I won’t talk about how to create a YouTube channel and design it beautifully, it just doesn’t make sense to repeat, it’s better to watch a video lesson from Evgeny Popov about this (link is at the end of the article).

So how do you get YouTube subscribers for free?

  1. Using annotations in videos.
  2. A call to subscribe in the video itself.
  3. Friendly recommendations.
  4. Personal invitations.
  5. Method "I can not live without you."
  6. Commenting in other channels.

And now more about each method.

  1. Video annotations

Using annotations in the video itself increases the conversion of subscribers on the YouTube channel. It is a fact. Annotations are used by many advanced YouTubers.

annotation is a clickable message that appears in the video itself and contains some message for the viewer, for example:

"Subscribe for new videos, click here"

"Subscribe to new videos and be the first"

Annotations are added to your YouTube channel under Video Manager.

  1. Call to subscribe in the video itself

The essence of the method lies in the fact that in the video itself you must call on people to subscribe to your YouTube channel by voice. For example, at the beginning of the video (and this is important, because not everyone makes it to the end of the video), you say the following:

“Good afternoon my dear viewers. Today I'm going to talk about this and that. And before I start my story, I will share useful information, please subscribe to my channel if you have not subscribed yet. To do this, click on this button (show with your hand where the button is and then insert an annotation into this place).

This feature works very well.

I also recommend inserting a special frame at the end of the video in which you ask “Did you like the lesson? Press "I like it!" and specify where the button is located. It helps promote and promote your YouTube video.

There are many different channels on YouTube, you can arrange a mutual recommendation with several of them. To do this, on your channel in the "Friends" or "Interesting" section (the section may be called differently, you choose its name yourself) you put links to these channels, in response they put a link to your channel. Naturally, you need to access channels with approximately your attendance, tk. promoted channels are unlikely to pay attention to you, unless, of course, these are your friends.

  1. Personal invitations

This is probably the most difficult and tedious, but effective and free way attracting subscribers for a young YouTube channel. In this way, it is possible to gain 200-300 subscribers literally in 1-2 weeks. To achieve this result, you should send 40-50 personal invitations daily to registered YouTubers. You should not send more than 50 per day, otherwise YouTube will consider you a spammer and block your account.

How to do it?

There is nothing complicated, it is done like this. Enter your keyword in YouTube search, select the channels with the most subscribers.

Open the most popular videos in these channels and look below the video who commented.

"Hi Ivan, visit our channel, we have a lot of videos on the topic ... Thank you."

In the subject of the message, indicate: "I invite you to visit my channel."

You can also attach your video to a private message.

  1. Method "I can't live without you"

The essence of the method is to constantly provide such high-quality interesting and useful information that a person simply cannot help but subscribe.

This is of course difficult, requires experience and will not work right away. But when you come to this, the result will not keep you waiting. It is thanks to this attachment that most of the promoted channels on YouTube exist.

  1. Commenting in other channels

This method is quite simple and effective. You also find popular videos on your topic with a large number of views and post your comments under them. At the same time, anyone who reads the comments can click on your name and get to your channel. Therefore, write interesting comments to interest and make a person want to click on your name and see what else is interesting on your channel.

How to promote a channel on YouTube?

Any promotion on the Internet is preceded by technical training. The result of promotion will depend on how well you prepared your video.

How to prepare a video for promotion on YouTube:

  1. MP4 is the best format for uploading to YouTube. If it is not possible to save your video in mp4 format, use AVI, FLV format.
  2. You come up with a title for your video not just “anyhow” - find keywords that match the topic of your video and use these keywords in the title, and try to include the keyword 2 times! Add a description to the title as well. English language. But remember, the title should not be too long, otherwise it will not be displayed in its entirety, only the beginning of the title will appear.
  1. Before uploading a file to YouTube, we include a keyword in its name, and it must be in Russian, for example:

How-to-promote-channel-on-YouTube.mpeg4

How-to-promote-channel-on-YouTube.avi

If you do not know how to change the name of the video file, take it, just move the mouse cursor over desired file, press the right button, select the “Rename” command from the menu that appears and enter a new file name. OK?

  1. After uploading a video to YouTube, in the "Video Manager" indicate the keywords in the tags, the more the better, but do not overdo it. How do you know when it's busted? Watch the video of your competitors who are in the TOP 10 for your key phrase, how many keywords do they have in tags?
  2. Next, write a description for your video. The description should be long enough (search engines love a lot of content) and should contain your keyword. The longer the description, the better, let it be at least 500 characters or more.

Greetings dear friends. Today, every Internet user would like to become popular and. One of the ways to make money on the Internet at home is precisely the media network.

Youtube has been the most popular video service for many years. During its existence, it has collected millions of videos on its open spaces with a wide variety of topics - from video clips of famous performers and feature films to videos from family holidays.

What a video is, what quality it is and what information it carries, directly affects its popularity among YouTube users - the number of views, likes and downloads. Many novice bloggers are interested in the question of how to promote a YouTube channel in order to get these very views and likes for each video?

YouTube Core Principles

Before considering how to promote, let's look at the principles of the service and the promotion of videos on it:

  • A channel that does not provide any useful information, is doomed to fail. Even if you want to use YouTube exclusively or trade, a video that talks about the amazing features of a product or a video with a link and a description of the store is unlikely to be watched to the end by anyone. This information can be found on the site, and YouTube is designed to convey information that is more appropriate in video format. So, if you have a travel agency, the YouTube channel can be used to show a particular country, city, region, but not to tell you where your office is located and what cheap tours you have.
  • A channel with interesting videos is doomed to success. It doesn’t matter how well you understand promotion methods, how you advertise your channel and how many people you tell about your videos - if you post interesting videos, subscribers and likes will fall by themselves.

How to Promote a YouTube Channel: Free Ways

The main rule when promoting a channel is to post only videos that are interesting and useful to viewers. But besides this, there are several other ways to make your videos popular:

  • Think about the theme of the channel in advance. If you have a channel about travel, then you should not add videos, for example, about fashion, even occasionally. Most of your subscribers are interested in travel videos, and content on another topic that has nothing to do with the declared one is unlikely to be appreciated by viewers. Try to shoot videos on the chosen topic, but not the same type, so that the audience does not lose interest.

  • Choose a topic for the channel that is one of the most popular. News and educational videos, videos about celebrities, sports, fashion are in demand on YouTub.
  • Qualitatively optimize the title of the video. To do this, you need to pay attention to several points:

Making a description in optimal amount signs - from 500;

We select keywords and use them in the description;

We do not write tags in the description.

  • Another answer to the question of how to promote a channel on YouTube -
  • write tags. Proper tag optimization will provide more targeted views for your videos. For this:

We use all 500 characters allocated for tags;

First of all, we prescribe less competitive tags that are often repeated by bloggers, and then more competitive ones;

We use keywords from the description of the video in the tags;

We try to write without errors. For you can use special services or just Word;

We check tags for old videos and, if necessary, rewrite them or correct them.

  • An effective promotion method is the use of other services for advertising YouTube channel. To do this, put links to the video or channel on social networks and other sites. It is not a fact that all those who see the links will follow them, but it is likely that a certain percentage of visitors to the site or page in social network find the video useful by the description and watch it.

  • Share your videos on social media pages and groups. If not everyone reacts unambiguously to links, immediately perceiving them as advertising, then the reaction to the videos themselves is the opposite. Users who have watched them and become interested can themselves ask for a link to your other videos, or follow the link to your channel if it is indicated under the video.

  • Watch videos from popular bloggers and borrow the best ideas for your channel. But don't film the same. Even if your video turned out no worse, it is unlikely that it will be appreciated, considering it to be plagiarism. It’s better to add something of your own to the borrowed idea, try to make your video not only not worse, but also better.
  • Make video responses to other videos. To do this, take a video of the most popular bloggers and continue their thought or express your opinion on the issue raised. At the same time, you should not speak sharply against another blogger, even if you do not agree with his opinion.
A similar video of yours will be shown in the search results after the user views the video to which you made a video response.
  • Add as many videos as possible to your channel. If you have one good idea, you can shoot it in 2 or 3 videos, thus ensuring yourself and frequent update, and interest in your channel. Users who like the first video will definitely want to watch the next ones, which means they will subscribe to your channel.
  • Feel free to prompt the viewer to action. It's possible that he liked the video but didn't think to like it or forgot. Remind him of this with the words “if you liked this video, put a like”, “if you are interested in this idea and want to watch the next video in a similar format, subscribe to my channel.”
  • Make collaborative videos with other bloggers. When showing a video, they will definitely indicate a link to your channel, thereby providing you with new subscribers if your video is actually useful and interesting. Identical videos of several bloggers by agreement are also popular. In this case, you provide a link to other bloggers, who, in turn, link to you, which allows the video not to look like a plagiarism of someone else's idea.
  • Be relevant. You should not try to interest your viewers with a video on a topic that has long exhausted itself and no longer interests anyone. Study fashion trends on YouTube and be guided by them. It's silly to review a Russian beach resort in winter or an autumn-winter fashion show in spring.
  • Communicate with your viewers. Don't ignore the questions they ask under the videos unless they have negative connotations. It is also effective to communicate with viewers in the videos themselves by asking for their opinion in the comments and even making separate videos with answers to frequently asked questions.

  • Listen to the opinion of the audience. They often come up with really great ideas for the next video. Try to shoot about something that is interesting to the audience, but not deviating too much from the subject of the channel.

How to promote a channel on YouTube: paid ways

If free promotion methods do not help you or you want to announce your channel in a short time, you can use paid services:

Do paid advertising for your channel. To do this, negotiate with other bloggers, popular pages on social networks, that they mention your channel in their videos, under them and on their pages. Accounts with a large number of subscribers are able to attract a significant percentage of new viewers to your channel.

A promotion method that guarantees at least dozens of subscribers is to sponsor a contest on a blogger's channel with a large audience. The essence of the method is to acquire a prize for the winner of the competition through joint financial efforts with the owner of the channel. In return, the latter indicates a subscription to your channel as a prerequisite among others for participation in the contest.

Order viral videos. This is one of the most effective ways and the most popular tips when asked how to promote a channel on YouTube. Viral videos in a short time disperse throughout the site and gain thousands of views. At the same time, users themselves send a link to it to their friends. With the help of viral advertising, you can:

  • factor of increase channel traffic and the number of views and other videos;
  • gain recognition among a wide range of YouTube users.

Order promotion from specialists. Special services offer to gain a certain number of subscribers, views and likes for a fee. You can choose from two options - a set of live subscribers or bots. The first option is more expensive because real people they may become interested in your channel and start liking and commenting on their own, and bots will simply add the number of subscribers.

I hope the material was useful, and you subscribe to the blog newsletter. Good luck.

Sincerely, Galiulin Ruslan.

Hello to all new youtubers and vloggers.

Vasily Blinov is in touch and today I am starting a new large column on the blog dedicated to the development of the channel and making money on YouTube.

We will analyze YouTube from A to Z in an understandable language so that everyone can figure out where to start and how to proceed.

A little background

For 2 years I have been working remotely, studying and creating various sources of income via the Internet, which I talk about in this blog. YouTube was not a priority for me before, until I uploaded a few videos on it and saw that they began to bring me passive income.

I filmed, uploaded a video to the channel, users watch it, and you just get profit from it for the rest of your life. But it’s not enough just to shoot and upload a video in order for the channel to start making money, you need to know at least the basics of video editing, channel optimization and marketing.

The development of the channel can be compared with the development of a regular blog, which I have been doing for the 2nd year. If you look at the steps, then this is choosing a niche, structuring the content, designing, setting up, etc. Today I will break it all down so that you understand a rough plan for working on your channel.

A good friend of mine, whom we met on the island of Bali in Indonesia in the winter of 2015, will help me in writing this free YouTube tutorial. Now he works as a YouTube specialist mainly on the foreign expanses of the Internet and promotes channels with millions of subscribers.

I think his experience will be useful not only for beginners, but also for those who, as they say, have been living with YouTube for more than a year.

You can call these articles free education Internet profession “YouTube channel manager”. In remote work today it is one of the most demanded specialties.

Where do I start?

We will arrange a small reality show “How to become a video blogger” with a full report in the form of educational content on this blog.

I'm not going to start from scratch. As I said, I have a channel ( Vasily Blinov's video blog), on which 35 videos are currently uploaded, most of which are “gray”, that is, I downloaded other people's videos and uploaded them to my channel, some with copyright infringement. I plan to get rid of them soon and leave only my author's content.

Over the entire existence of the channel, he has accumulated:

  1. 35 videos.
  2. 56 206 views.
  3. 684 subscribers.

I monetized it, so it's hard to calculate the income. Recently, due to my inexperience, I connected, which shows ads when watching videos, and I want to say that this is complete nonsense. In this way, you can earn something only with millions of views.

In general, the display of such advertising, which many consider the only way to monetize, is almost in last place. Why? I will tell you about this in a separate article on how to make money on YouTube and monetize videos.

With such a mess on my YouTube channel, I'll start.

The biggest problem that stops

The biggest problem to start shooting videos for the channel is not the technical ability to set everything up, but the psychological one. Many, including myself, are afraid of the camera. It seems that you know everything what to say, and when you turn on the recording, a void forms in your head.

I had about the same situation when I started this blog, only in terms of writing articles. It was not possible to write even 2 lines, but then, with daily actions, it started to get better and better. At least I think so.

Now I quietly write 3-4 articles a week and publish them. With video, I have no doubt it will be the same. The more you try, the more you get. Thoughts will be formed correctly, speech will be built, etc., maybe some courses or trainings will have to be taken on this topic.

If someone has the same problem, then be sure to write a comment on this article.

Step-by-step plan for the development of the channel on YouTube

Lack of a plan is the reason why 99% of newbies fail. There is no idea where to start, how and what to do correctly, etc. Like a ship in the sea that does not know where to sail. As a result, you seem to be doing something, swimming somewhere, but there are no results. So we will work on it.

The whole process can be roughly divided into 9 steps:

  1. Choice and analysis of the topic of the channel.
  2. Search than to monetize video.
  3. Drawing up a content plan.
  4. Creating and configuring a channel.
  5. Registration.
  6. Video recording and editing.
  7. Results tracking.
  8. Promotion and advertising.

The main thing, I think, by fulfilling all these points is to find your style and develop your strategy. Of course, everything you do at first will look like someone else. But this is not scary, this is the law of nature, since childhood we copy everything that we see and hear. He took it, then he took it, and as a result he gave birth to something unique.

Let's now consider each stage separately, what it consists of.

Stage 1. Niche selection and channel topic analysis

  • Explore channel themes.
  • Selecting multiple topics for which you will shoot videos.
  • Analysis of the topic you have chosen, whether it is interesting and relevant to YouTube viewers.
  • Definition of your target audience.
  • Studying your competitors.
  • Drawing up an approximate structure of your niche.

Stage 2. Monetization

Someone will say that at first you don’t need to think about making money, but I don’t think so. The success of any project depends on how much money it brings. The more it brings, the greater the desire of the authors to make high-quality and useful content for their viewers.

  • Learn all the ways to make money on YouTube.
  • Finding something that can monetize your niche.
  • View ways to earn competitive channels.
  • Compilation of a list of partners on your topic.

Stage 3. Content plan

  • Learning to plan content.
  • Making a list of at least 100 video ideas.

Stage 4. Creating and configuring a channel

  • Creating a YouTube channel.
  • Its correct setting.
  • Channel optimization.

Stage 5. Registration

  • Ordering the design of the YouTube header or self-design.
  • Learning the ways and secrets of designing intros for videos.
  • Ordering design templates for videos from designers or making them on your own.

Stage 6. Video recording and editing

This is generally a separate topic that requires constant development and improvement.

  • Learn to shoot live video.
  • Learn to shoot screencasts (video from the screen).
  • Learn how to do at least a simple editing of the captured videos.
  • Selection and purchase of good equipment.
  • Learn how to upload videos to a channel.
  • Learn video optimization (collecting queries, compiling catchy titles, tags, description, etc.).

Two articles on this section, we definitely will not manage.

Step 8: Track results

  • Learn to keep a monthly digitization.
  • Understand YouTube analytics.

Stage 9. Promotion and advertising

  • Explore free and paid ways promoting your Youtube channel.
  • Allocate a monthly advertising budget.

Conclusion

Here, friends, is an approximate work plan, which I will analyze in detail in separate articles on this blog. In order not to miss anything, you can subscribe just below the article or at the top right of the side column.

I want to say, in order to check whether this is your business or not yours, you need to shoot and post at least 100 videos on the channel. Many guys will shoot 1-2 videos, see what went wrong, and spit on it. So, of course, nothing can be achieved. You have to try, try and try again.

I will continue to supplement the list of items for each stage, at the moment, I think, I did not manage to write out everything, what needs to be done and where to start.

The next article will be like, in which I will collect everything possible questions and answers.

Thanks for attention. Leave comments and ask questions of interest in them that need to be sorted out under the heading about YouTube.

Retreat. We don't know 100% how the YouTube algorithm works. We did not create it and did not communicate with those who created it. We just analyzed a huge selection of videos and ran tests. Fortunately, we have a lot of videos. Perhaps somewhere our conclusions are erroneous. I will be happy to talk with anyone who has expertise in this area or their own thoughts on how to successfully promote videos.

Key metric for video promotion

Let's start with the most basic indicator, which is written about in all blogs and talked about at any conference - audience retention. Audience retention- percentage characteristic. It shows how many people have watched your video to the end. The higher the percentage, the more interesting the video is to the viewer. It is unlikely that you will watch until the end of a 10-minute video if it is nonsense. Conversely, if the video is great, you're more likely to watch it in its entirety. Audience retention is the main YouTube metric (but far from the only one) that affects many indicators.
I have heard and read a lot where you need to make short videos, because they will have higher retention. This is logical. Let's say a 30-second review of a chair is seen through to the end by many more people than the same review of 10 minutes.
But is it the most best option video for YouTube itself? Let's try to look at the videos from his point of view. YouTube makes money from ads. The longer a person is on the site, the more likely they are to interact with ads.
Then what is more profitable for him, a 2-minute video with an 80% retention? Or a 30-minute one, which only 50% will watch to the end? Of course, 30 minutes, because users will spend much more time on the site.
Let's try to pass the test. What do you think, which video, other things being equal, will rank higher?

Answer to the question

Other things being equal, the third video will rank higher. In the first one, the user spent an average of 4 minutes on YouTube, in the second 4.9 minutes, in the third 5.4 minutes. But if the retention of the third video was 50%, then the second one would win.

Conduct your own test: enter various queries and check the duration of the videos in the top. Almost always it will be long videos.
Of course, the algorithm is much more complicated. For example, what the user does after watching a video is taken into account. If the video has good retention, but after watching it, users leave the site, this is bad signal. If they start watching other videos (not even from your channel), then this is a positive signal and the video with the worst retention ranks higher.
Output: A video will rank well if it keeps people on Youtube. Don't be afraid to make long videos. The time a user spends on a site after watching a video can be more important than the overall retention rate.

Video ranking factors

When I started promoting videos in the search results, I studied a lot of information on foreign and Russian-language blogs. Everywhere listed dozens of factors that influence the top. Initially, we tried to follow everything: optimize file names, ask people to add videos to their favorites, make long descriptions with a bunch of keywords, etc. But this did not bring significant results. Yes, natural traffic grew, but it was not possible to promote any specific key to the top.
At some point, we realized that the inference factors, voiced many years ago, repeat as true even now. But YouTube is constantly changing its algorithm, and it simply cannot be that the keys in the file name and the re-optimized tags field still bring videos to the first places.
Then we conducted a study and identified the following factors that affect the ranking of the video.

The most important:

  • Audience retention. Long videos (10+ minutes) with good retention are much easier to bring to the top.
  • Optimized title and description. How to select the keys will talk a little later. They should appear in the title and in the first lines of the description. The description should be as long as possible and, obviously, completely unique.
  • Video views. YouTube cannot ignore videos that have been viewed by a lot of people. In addition, there is a separate filter in the issue "by the number of views." Many people use it. But here it is important to remember that cheating will not lead to anything good. If you buy views by bots, then the retention will drop, and the video will not reach the top.

Other factors:

  • Number of likes and dislikes. As well as their relationship to each other and views. Until recently, this was a fairly strong factor, but now it is being rolled up for a penny. 1000 likes can be bought for a couple of dollars. Currently, YouTube only counts natural likes (i.e., likes from users who watched the video, commented, or otherwise showed their vitality). Just like without interacting with the video does nothing.
  • Subscribers who subscribed after watching (or during). Has an impact, but only if the subscriber interacted with the content.
  • Sharing and adding to favorites. These factors are also easy to wind up, so they will bring a plus only if after sharing there is an interaction in the social network. In other words, if the video received 100 tweets, but they didn’t bring visitors, it’s cheating. If he received 100 tweets, they were retweeted and new visitors came - a positive signal for YouTube.
  • Embedding videos on the sites you visit. If there are views from third-party sites, this is a definitely positive signal for YouTube. The same thing happens with external links from good sites.
  • File name. I do not notice the influence of this factor. But the fact that you name the video with some keyword will definitely not make it worse.

YouTube and Google SEO. We choose semantics.

Organic traffic is very important. For some videos, it can become the main source of views. Therefore, in no case should they be neglected. Plus, search traffic is almost always the cheapest in the long run.
In general, the SEO of videos and websites is very similar. Keywords, behavioral factors, linking, links are also important. But there are differences, and we'll talk about them.

Keywords for the video

When collecting the semantic core of the site, Key Collector, Google keyword tool, Yandex Wordstat are most often used. But when collecting semantics for a video, the query that is shown in the same Key Collector is not always the most efficient. Why?
The fact is that Google gives different queries a different number of videos in the top. On some queries, there may be no video, and on others - the entire top of the video.
Let's look at a very simple example. Let's take the roller skate niche and 2 requests from it.

The first request is much more popular, it would seem that it would be much more profitable to sharpen a video for it. But, if we look at the top Google, we will find that it is not allotted no position below the video!
Whereas there is a video in the top of the second request.

The example is very simple, but I think the essence is clear.

Own example

Let's look at a slightly more complex task using one of our videos as an example.
Task: collect as many organic views as possible for the training video on the IS-7 tank ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBK-kGL53h4).

Let's start with the selection of keywords. Take a broad match from Wordstat:

We filter out commercial (because the video is educational) and non-thematic requests. Next, we check through the Google Keywords Tool, and also look at the number of slots allocated for the video.

Next, we analyze the tips of Google itself and YouTube for the query "IS-7"

And YouTube tips:

We determine that it is beneficial to focus on the “guide” key. Videos for this query occupy the first 3 lines of Google, Google itself and YouTube advise it, the key is well asked. At the same time, the rest of the keys are also good, and in no case should we exclude them from the promotion.

As a result, we include everything in the title and description, while being as natural as possible:

As a result, for all keywords in both Google and YouTube video took top positions. According to the main key "IS-7" it also ranks high.

Output: Consider all ranking factors, and choose the right keywords and descriptions. This will allow you to bring your videos to the top and collect organic traffic. Most importantly, remember that the process of collecting semantics for video has its own characteristics.

Example:

Miniatures. A few months ago, I wrote about the importance of choosing the "right" thumbnail. We conducted A / B tests and found options with the highest conversion for ourselves. Here's what you should pay attention to when choosing a thumbnail:
Large text. It works well, because it reads well in recommended videos and on mobile phones. But remember, if you plan to promote your video through Facebook, the caption should not take up more than 20% of the thumbnail.
Do not make irrelevant thumbnails (for example, with girls on technical video). This will lower the retention of the video and it will rank lower in the search results.
Place people on thumbnails. People do their best work. And people with emotions on their faces are even better.

Working with analytics

When you have several videos out, it's time to start working with analytics. A lot can be learned from analytics. For example, here are a few cases on YouTube audit, which are completely obtained when working with analytics. In this article, we will consider two main indicators:

  • Retention
  • real time

Retention

The retention report allows you to understand which types of videos are performing well and are interesting to the audience, and which are not. Let's take two reports:

The first graph shows that most people left almost immediately. Their video did not hook. But on the other hand, almost everyone who watched the first minute, watch to the end. We can conclude that the video is interesting, but only for a certain part of users. Well, or change the beginning, because it does not interest the viewer.
The second graph shows that the video is interesting to the audience. Relevant impressions, good start, no sharp falls. Maybe the end of the video needs some tweaking.
There are two types of retention reports in analytics:
  • Absolute Retention. It shows how interest in a video decreases during viewing, comparing the number of people in a given replay with the total number of views.
  • Relative Retention. It compares your video to other videos of the same length, shows interesting moments, etc.

The example shows that there are jumps. This means that people return to this place after watching for some reason. There is something interesting or controversial here.

real time

Realtime shows you how users interacted with your video in the last 48 hours. For example:

We see that this type of video is watched in the morning, then the views drop and in the afternoon they start to grow until the evening. In the evening, again a sharp drop.
Or another example:

Here we see that views are growing from morning to evening.
Analyzing such reports, you can understand when it is better to release a video in order to get additional views in the first hours, etc.

Conclusion. Promotion on YouTube is quite a difficult but interesting task. There are dozens, if not hundreds, of factors. There are many different schemes to attract traffic, and for free. If you are interested, I will definitely share them. Or you can read about all the research on my blog.

Additional example

Some channels enjoy a "newcomer bonus" for videos. The bottom line is that a new video receives a ranking bonus and is given a higher ranking within a few days.

Channels that cannot enter the top with a traffic key use it to collect traffic by constantly releasing new videos. The new video takes a place in the top of the previous one. And as a result, one of the videos of this channel is always at the top.
