How to go to the previous version. Restoring an old working driver: Roll back to a previous version. How to return the old version of "Android" after updating through the "recovery" mode

In February 2020, a new version of the VK application began to appear among users. Everything that was there is there. You just have to get used to it. Press the buttons and you will quickly figure it out.

Someone always doesn't like something new at first. But when they get used to it and even something newer comes out, they demand to return the previous new one. So it's just a matter of habit.

How to return the old version of the VK application design?

You can either manually install one of the old versions of the VK application, in which there was no new design yet (at your own peril and risk, some functions may not work), or write a request to support agents and ask them to enable the old design: How to write to agents (all methods) ... You will be switched to the old design, but most likely, this is temporary, and in newer versions of the application it will no longer be.

Why was the old version of the site replaced with a new one?

The new version of the site (new design, appearance, design) VKontakte appeared in April 2016. The old one has existed for a very long time and is outdated. At first, during the trial period, each user could turn on the new version for himself, and if he didn’t like something, then go back to the old one.

How was the new version of the VK site included?

At first it was like this: the person who wants to open the news himself in the VK blog and at the very end of the page clicked "Join testing".

You could also enable the new version by following the link "Use the new version of the site by default" in the left column of the site, below (if you open VK on your computer, not on your phone).

How was the old version included?

You could return the old one back in the same place, at the very bottom of the narrow left column of the site, a pale gray link. It was called «Back to old version site ". Then it did not remain with everyone, and even later it disappeared completely. Read on:

Why did the new version turn on by itself and how to get back?

Since June 9, 2016, part of VK users (about 10 percent) received a new version forcibly, that is, it turned on itself, and they could no longer return to the old one. You could also be one of these users. Nothing can be done about it, you could only get used to it, because a person gets used to everything. The best option is to take the change calmly. Some time will pass, and the old version will already seem uncomfortable to you. And in any case, the developers of the VK site would not have been able to maintain the old version for a long time.

This was the beginning of a massive transfer of all VK users to the new version. Here is the official news about it. Those who did not fall into the mentioned 10%, for some time still could switch to the new version and back to the old one, but from August 17, VKontakte completely switched to the new version, she herself turned on for everyone without the possibility of returning to the old one.

Since then, due to numerous requests from users, some changes have been made (changed the font, left the opportunity to use dialogs similar to those in the old version, and the like). But in general, there will never be a return to the old version. Most likely, it no longer exists.

How do I revert to the old version of dialogs?

Go to "Messages" and find the gear icon below -. Click on it and choose Switch to classic interface. After that, you will have dialogues as in the old version. To return back to the new version, in the same way, click on the gear and select Go to new interface.

Is the new version on the phone too?

The new version means full version site that people use on computers and tablets. This does not apply to the VK application for phones, which is developed and updated separately (see How to download VK to your phone). Is there some more mobile version site VK, which also exists separately, but she gradually borrowed many elements from the new "full" version.

How to return the old version of the VK mobile application on the phone?

Old version can be installed mobile application manually, described here:

The old version may not have music playing. Nobody guarantees that older versions of the app will work at all. The VK administration can turn them off. For the future, you can turn off automatic update and the app will not update.

Better option is to get used to new version applications. When something new appears, there are always people who don't like it. So it was with the new version of the VKontakte website - many promised to leave VK forever, but they still sit there perfectly. It's all about habit.

Who doesn't like the new version of VKontakte?

Not everyone likes the new version of VKontakte. Many people demand to return to the previous version, which they find more convenient. Someone claims that the new design is too similar to Facebook and even Odnoklassniki. Users even created an online petition demanding that the old version be kept and given “the right to choose” (this did not affect anything). Online petitions are often created for a variety of reasons and are widely disseminated through them. But in reality, the petition has not helped anyone yet. When the noise dies down, everyone forgets about her.

VKontakte laughed at its users, who promised to leave if they did not return the old version. A month after their promise, they still continued to sit in VK ().

It is known that any major update is always greeted by some people with hostility, since changing old habits is too painful for them. But over time, they calm down.

Our instructions will help you quickly navigate the new version of VKontakte: Where are the settings in the new version of VKontakte, my answers, music, birthdays, exit, statistics ...?

Please write in the comments below what you think about the new version of VKontakte! Your opinion is important.

Why is it important? When you express your opinion, it becomes easier, you release your negativity. True, 92% of people will not read this, but will immediately look for where to write - they don't care. Congratulations if you're reading this! If you really want to contact VKontakte employees and ask them to return the old version, try contacting their support service - but we don't think this will affect anything.

What happened to VKontakte music? Why is it paid now?

It has long been rumored that the VK application will appear paid subscription to music. At the end of April 2017, VK decided to transfer music listeners to the Boom application, where there is just a paid subscription. The application belongs to the partner Mail.ru Group, which includes VKontakte itself. The music section in VK has changed - playlists and ads have appeared. Music caching has disappeared in the VK application for Android (it is no longer possible to save music and listen to it without the Internet). Why did all this happen? The fact is that if everyone listens to music for free, the musicians will have nothing to eat and they will have to leave for another job. Therefore, it could not continue indefinitely. You can express your indignation right here in the comments. Be sure to share this page with your friends!

This is how VKontakte representatives answer questions about free music in the app.

Each operating system needs to be improved in order to: improve its performance and usability, fix flaws and errors.

Which is easy to do with updates. For the Android operating system, this can be done by updating its version, and this operation is called a flashing.

What kind of problems appear after updating the android?

By and large, not scary at all. Very rarely, after modification, several shortcuts from the desktop disappear, well, the programs themselves are the owners of these icons. Because, they have long been outdated, there are many updates or replacements for these programs in the Play Store.

Along with the flashing, new useful, but uninteresting programs are installed that cannot be removed.

The worst thing is if you do not install the operating system through settings and updates. Such, on my own installed version android will be unofficial software and all service guarantees for your device will be lost.

How to get an old version of android back after an update?

It may happen that you want to return an old version of android if you do not like the update made. But, such an opportunity, without harm to personal data and already liked installed applications, does not exist.

It's still better to get used to the android after the update. Install new applications, desktop shortcuts, and an updated operating system you'll love.

Stubbornly does not leave the desire to return the old version of android after the update, then this can be done.

Firstly, before returning the old version of android, you need to rewrite all personal data from internal memory phone:

  • contacts, phone numbers - to the SIM card;
  • photos, music, text files, SMS messages, mail letters - to a separate memory card.

Second, you will need to perform a factory reset. There are two options.

Reset in the menu:

For different types and device models, the operation is different:

  • on Android phones version 2.3 -
    Settings> Privacy>
  • on Android phones version 4 -
Settings> Device storage> Factory data reset
    or Settings> Built-in memory> Factory data reset.
  • on tablets Android version 4 -
    Settings> Backup & reset> Factory data reset.

Hard reset to revert to old android version:

You need to enter the "Android system recovery" menu (). First you need to turn off the device, and then use the key combination, which for different manufacturers differs.

  • For most phones and tablets - simultaneously hold and hold the buttons: turn on and volume down.
  • Samsung - simultaneously hold and hold the buttons: power on and volume up.
  • Sony Ericsson - simultaneously hold and hold the buttons: power on, volume down and camera.
  • LG - simultaneously hold down and hold for more than 10 seconds the buttons: power on, volume down, home screen (home). Release the power button after the LG logo appears, and hold the rest until the recovery screen appears.
  • Huawei - simultaneously hold and hold the buttons: power on, volume down, volume up.
  • HTC - press and hold the volume down button, then briefly press the power button. When the recovery menu appears on the screen, release the volume down key. Find the item "Clear storage", select it by pressing the power button and confirm the action with the volume down button.

In the "Android system recovery" menu, remember the key assignments: highlight - move through the menu; select - selection of a menu item. We move to the line "wipe data / factory reset" and select this item. Further, in the new menu, go down to the action confirmation sub-item and select it.

In both reset options, a reboot will occur, and your device will turn on with factory settings - with applications and the old version of android pre-installed by the manufacturer.

Many IT specialists use, or at least know about points Windows recovery to restore the previous state operating system after a major failure. But did you know that in (and to some extent in Vista) System Restore has been enhanced to track and save previous versions of changed files?

In other words, in addition to quickly recovering the system in case of a failure, you can now recover individual files if they were accidentally deleted, damaged, or if you just need to quickly undo all changes made to the file.

While file recovery is great Windows function 7, oddly enough, few people know about it and few people use it. In this article, I will go into more detail about this technology and explain how it works.

Briefly about previous versions

Although I advertise previous versions of the files as new function, Actually this is not true. The roots of this technology go back to Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, where it was implemented as. When you install the Shadow Copies of Shared Folders client on a Windows XP computer connected to a server under Windows control Server 2003, restoring previous versions of files was possible in Windows XP as well. The main innovation in Windows 7 is that this function is now fully available as part of a single operating system and does not require a connection to the server.

I also mentioned that older versions of the files are supported to some extent in Vista as well. More precisely, in Vista Business, Enterprise and Ultimate. This feature is not available in Home Basic, Home Premium and Starter versions. In Windows 7, it is present in all editions.

How it works

As you know, to create restore points, the operating system constantly monitors any significant changes, which include the installation of new applications, hardware, drivers, system updates or security patches through the Center Windows updates... When such changes are detected, the system automatically creates a restore point, which is, in fact, a snapshot of the system state, including important system files, including certain parts of the registry. At the same time, snapshots of all data files stored on the hard disk are taken.

However, making major changes to the operating system is not the only reason to create a restore point. By default, Windows 7 automatically creates a restore point once a day, and in addition, you can create such a snapshot yourself at any time.

In addition, when you create backups using the Backup and Restore tool, Windows 7 automatically tracks them and allows you to restore previous versions of files not only from restore points, but also from backups.

To use the Restore Previous Versions function, right-click on the file and select the Restore Previous Versions option from the context menu.

Figure A. The option "Restore Previous Version" is available in the context menu of any file in Windows 7.

The file properties window will open with the "Previous Versions" tab (Fig. B). As you can see, in my example, the file is included in both the restore points and the backup, so I can choose any option to restore it to its previous version, depending on which date I'm interested in.

Figure B. Using the Backup and Restore tool, you can restore older versions of files not only from recovery points, but also from backups.

As you can see, there are three buttons on the Previous Versions tab: Open, Copy, and Restore. To check if this is the version of the file you need, you can select it in the list and click "Open". This will open the file for viewing in the appropriate application - in my case, it's Word.

The Copy button invokes a standard copy dialog like the Copy To command and allows you to restore a file to a different folder. Note that the "Open" and "Copy" commands are available only for files saved in the recovery point, and do not work for backed up files. The "Restore" button allows you to restore the file to the exact state it was in when the restore point or backup was created.

Things to Consider

Keep in mind that older versions of a file from restore points will only be available if changes have been made to the file since the last restore point was created. If the file has not changed since then, a message will appear on the Previous Versions tab: There are no previous versions available (Figure C).

Figure C. If the file has not changed since the last restore point was created, the following message will appear.

However, this does not mean that the previous version of the file was not saved to the restore point. If you just open and save the current file, the previous version will immediately appear on the Previous Versions tab.

If the file has not changed for several months, new versions of it will not be saved every time a restore point is created.

File recovery

Now that you have an idea of how the restore legacy feature works, let's see how to use it. Let's say I accidentally permanently deleted Word document(fig. D), and then realized his mistake. Since the file is gone, there is nothing to right-click on. Instead, you must open the Previous Versions tab for the folder where you stored remote file(fig. E).

Figure D. I accidentally deleted a Word document.

Figure E. To recover a permanently deleted file, open the Previous Versions tab for the folder where it was stored.

To make sure that this folder is saved desired file, I click the "Open" button. The folder opens, and in it is the file you are looking for. Now I can open it in Word and see the content. After making sure that this is the file I want, I close Word, close the folder, and return to the Previous Versions tab. I click the "Restore" button. The dialog box shown in Fig. F. If I click the "Restore" button in it, the file will be restored to its original folder.

Figure F. Before restoring the file, the system prompts you to confirm the operation.

Although the warning in the dialog box is worded as if the restore replaces the entire contents of the folder, in fact, only the deleted file will be restored. There were several other files in my folder, for example, and they were left intact after the restore.

What do you think?

Did you know about the existence of the file restore functionality in Windows 7? If not, will you be using this feature now? And if you have already, what are your impressions? Share your opinion in the comments!

Users who have upgraded to Windows 10 have the option to revert to their previous operating system.

The so-called process. rollback is simple and can be done with just a few mouse clicks.

Windows 10 rollback conditions

Just as with the update, there is no need to perform a classic reinstallation - just take a few steps to roll back Windows 10.

During the system upgrade, the Windows.old directory is created, into which the data of the current system is copied and which serves as a backup copy.

Thirty days after the installation, this directory will be automatically deleted by the system. ...

Deleting the Windows.old directory implies the impossibility of rolling back.

Note! The ability to roll back to Windows 7 or 8 is valid only for 30 calendar days after the update and provided that the user has not uninstalled Windows.old.

Before proceeding with the return process, we recommend that you back up all important data to any available external drive or storage service.

How to rollback Windows 10 to Windows 8.1 / 7

The sequence of actions when rolling back to Windows 7 is no different from the sequence of actions for the eighth version. The current system will automatically install the OS version that was installed earlier.

So let's get started:

Step 1. We go to the "Start" menu, the "Settings" submenu.

Step 2. In the "Settings" menu, go to the "Update and Security" submenu.

Step 3. In the "Recovery" submenu, select the item "Return to Windows X", where X is the version of the operating system that was before the update. In our case, this is Windows 7. Click "Start".

Step 4. We select the reason due to which the rollback is performed, describe the essence of the situation in the "Tell me more" field and click "Next".

If you have upgraded to Windows 10 and find that it does not work for you or have encountered other problems, the most common of which are currently related to video card drivers and other hardware, you can return to the previous version of the OS and roll back from Windows 10. This can be done in several ways.

After the update, all the files of your old operating system are stored in the Windows.old folder, which previously sometimes had to be deleted manually, but this time it will be automatically deleted after a month (that is, if you updated more than a month ago, you will not be able to uninstall Windows 10) ... Also, the system has a function for rollback after the update, easy to use for any novice user.

Please note that if you manually deleted the above folder, then the method described below to return to Windows 8.1 or 7 will not work. A possible option in this case, if you have a manufacturer's recovery image, is to start returning the computer to its original state (other options are described in the last section of the instructions).

Rollback from Windows 10 to the previous OS

To use the feature, click on the notification icon at the far right of the taskbar and click All Settings.

In the settings window that opens, select "Update and Security", and then - "Recovery".

The final step is to click the Get Started button under the "Return to Windows 8.1" or "Return to Windows 7" section. In this case, you will be asked to indicate the reason for the rollback (choose any), after which, Windows 10 will be removed, and you will return to your previous version of the OS, with all programs and user files (that is, this is not a reset to the manufacturer's recovery image).

Some users who decided to uninstall Windows 10 and return Windows 7 or 8 were faced with a situation that, despite the presence of the Windows.old folder, the rollback still does not occur - sometimes there is simply no required item in the Settings, sometimes for some reason errors occur during rollback.

In this case, you can try the Neosmart Windows 10 Rollback Utility based on their own Easy Recovery product. The utility is a bootable ISO image (200 MB), when booting from which (after writing it to a disk or USB flash drive) you will see a recovery menu, in which:

You can write an image to a disc with any disc burning program, and to create a bootable USB flash drive, the developer offers its own utility Easy USB Creator Lite, available on their website neosmart.net/UsbCreator/ however, in the VirusTotal utility, it issues two warnings (which, in general, is not scary, usually in such quantities there are false positives). Nevertheless, if you are afraid, then you can write the image to a USB flash drive or (in the latter case, select the field for Grub4DOS images).

Also, when using the utility, it creates a backup copy current system Windows 10. So, if something goes wrong, you can use it to return "everything as it was".

You can download Windows 10 Rollback Utility from the official page https://neosmart.net/Win10Rollback/ (when downloading, you are asked to enter your e-mail and name, but there is no verification).

Manual reinstallation of Windows 10 on Windows 7 and 8 (or 8.1)

If none of the methods helped you, and after the upgrade to Windows 10 less than 30 days have passed, then you can proceed in the following ways:

  1. Perform a factory reset with automatic reinstallation of Windows 7 and Windows 8 if you have a hidden recovery image on your computer or laptop. More details: (also suitable for branded PCs and monoblocks with a pre-installed OS).
  2. Perform a clean installation of the system yourself if you know its key or it is in UEFI (for devices with 8 and higher). You can view the key "wired" in UEFI (BIOS) using the ShowKeyPlus program in the OEM-key section (I wrote more in the article). At the same time, if you need to download the original Windows image in the required edition (Home, Professional, For one language, etc.) for reinstallation, then you can do it like this:.

In general, I would recommend staying on Windows 10 - of course, the system is not perfect, but clearly better than 8 on the day it was released. And to solve certain problems that may arise at this stage, it is worth looking for options on the Internet, and at the same time go to the official websites of computer and hardware manufacturers to find drivers for Windows 10.

The release of a new operating system is always accompanied by a host of problems. This could be a lack of compatibility with drivers for computer components or certain applications. Some users just didn't like the operating room Windows system 10 due to its new design and the presence of many changes in terms of functionality compared to previous versions of the software. If the new operating system from Microsoft does not suit the computer user in terms of functionality, there are several ways to return from Windows 10 to Windows 7 or Windows 8. This can be done using standard system tools and using third-party applications.

How to restore Windows 7 or Windows 8 after installing Windows 10 using the system tools

When you install a new version of the operating system, it prudently remains on the computer, which you can use if you want to return the previous version of Windows. At the same time, it is saved only in the situation when the operating system was updated without formatting the hard disk.

To use the Windows.Old folder to restore Windows 7 or 8 after upgrading to Windows 10, you need to do the following:

Attention: If during the upgrade the Windows.Old folder was damaged and did not save backup information for restoring the operating system, this menu item may be missing.

With the above method of rolling back from Windows 10 to earlier versions of the operating system, the user gets the opportunity to save all his programs, as well as existing files, when restoring.

In a situation where it did not work to recover in this way (due to the absence of an item in the menu or for another reason), we recommend trying system recovery using third-party software, which is described in the instructions below.

Roll back a system from Windows 10 to Windows 7 or Windows 8 using third-party software

When there is no restore point in the operating system parameters to the last Windows versions, but at the same time the Windows.Old folder is saved, you can use specialized utilities that in some cases can solve the problem. The most famous program that allows you to restore Windows 7 or Windows 8 after Windows installations 10, is the Neosmart Windows 10 Rollback Utility. It weighs in at just over 200 megabytes and is an image that must be burned to a CD / DVD or USB flash drive in order to create recovery media.

The easiest way is to record the Neosmart Windows 10 Rollback Utility using a special utility also developed by Neosmart called USB Creator. All the programs mentioned above are available on the official website of the developers in free trial versions which will be enough to return from Windows 10 to the version of the operating system saved in Windows. Old. Please note that other applications can also be used for recording or a flash drive, for example, the well-known UltraISO program.

When the utility is written, you can begin the recovery procedure. To do this, go into the BIOS and set the boot process from the media on which the utility is written. After that, restart your computer and select Automated Repair on the first screen that opens. Next, you will see all the systems to which you can return. To start the recovery procedure, click on Roll Back.

Attention: Neosmart Windows 10 Rollback Utility automatically saves on system rollback current version Windows 10 in case you run into problems with the installation.

How to get Windows 7 or Windows 8 back after installing Windows 10 with full formatting

If you completely removed the previous version of the operating system from your computer and installed Windows 10 on a blank hard drive, you can try to restore Windows 7 or Windows 8 using the remaining system tools or license keys.

On laptops, there is almost always a separate partition on the hard drive, which is the system one, and it stores the system recovery image. Depending on the model of laptop or computer, this tool may work differently, but it allows you to install the version of the operating system that was originally on the hard disk.

The second way to restore Windows 7 or Windows 8 is to download a system image from the Internet. You can download an image of any version of Windows on the Microsoft website. Next, you need to burn it to a USB flash drive or DVD and install it. The problem during the installation process will arise with the lack of a license key, but if you are using a laptop or computer on which Windows was originally installed, you can get the necessary ones in advance.

Please note that Microsoft gives users 30 days to downgrade from Windows 10 to an earlier version of the operating system using an OEM key. After 30 days, it ceases to be valid and "sticks" to Windows 10.

Surely you have heard about the Android operating system, unless you yourself are the owner of a device running this shell. A good part of gadget owners liked this platform and is the most widespread OS among mobile devices... Since 2009, when the first version of the "robot" was released, the developers did not stop at improving and modifying their brainchild. New versions and updates are released regularly. But do you always need to update your device and how to return the old version of "Android" after the update? We will talk about this in this publication.

Why updates are needed?

First of all, for the proper operation of the system. The developers optimize performance, improve the interface, fix lags, because it is almost impossible to release a perfect system right away, and minor faults will be noticeable only during its active use. In most cases, you can find out about the appearance of an update using a regular message that appears in the notification bar. You can make an upgrade by going to the update center, downloading and installing the new version.

Why might gadget owners be unhappy with the update?

In most cases, after the update procedure, the device should work faster, and all the flaws should be a thing of the past. All that users can complain about is some changes in the interface or, for example, the disappearance of shortcuts from the desktop (accordingly, the applications themselves disappear). This is due to the fact that installed programs are already outdated and simply do not match the new firmware.

New versions of applications or their analogues can still be found on the Play Store, and trying to return the previous version of the OS due to the loss of old applications is a rather stupid idea. What else can annoy the owners in the new firmware version is the appearance of some programs that cannot be removed. For example, it can be new services from Google. And then users all over the world begin to think about whether it is possible to return the old version of "Android". But most of those who want to return to the old firmware are among those who tried to reflash their device on their own. Here, a huge variety of problems may appear, up to the fact that your gadget may turn into a "brick", that is, stop showing signs of life altogether.

So before performing such manipulations, make sure that you have enough knowledge and experience, and best of all, contact a professional. Reflash the device only in extreme cases, when you cannot do without it, because such a procedure completely voids your warranty. But you can still return the previous version.

How to return the old version of "Android" after the update?

To begin with, accept the fact that standard system resources do not provide for a system rollback option, as in Windows OS, for example. Accordingly, when you return to the old version, all installed programs and personal files will be deleted. Therefore, just before the procedure for returning the old version, do backups all important documents, files, phone numbers and so on. Be prepared to say goodbye to user settings, saved accounts or applications, they will erase everything except the built-in ones.

Next, you will have to perform a factory reset yourself. How to do this depends only on your version of the operating system, but most often this item is found if you go to "Settings" and "Restore and Reset". Also, this parameter can be found in "Confidentiality". Finding a factory reset will be easy anyway. Next, you will need to perform a number of actions a little more difficult, that is, enter recovery. And how to return the old version of "Android" using it - read on.
