24-inch full hd monitor. Projectors and monitors. ⇡ Specifications

It's no secret that the picture that we see when we work or sit at home at the computer is shown by the monitor. But due to the fact that the monitor has no effect on performance, many people save on it. Of course, it's up to you to decide whether this is the right step or not, we just want to help with advice and possibly make life easier for someone who has not yet made a choice.

Screen diagonal

The optimal screen sizes are monitors with a diagonal of 23-24 ″. If the monitor is intended for you to replace the TV, then the 27 ″ diagonal will be optimal for viewing video from a distance of several meters. If you are on a budget, you can at least consider 22 ″ monitors, although many of them actually have a 21.5 ″ viewable part. In this short overview, we will offer you all the options.

Aspect ratio

We settled on models with a traditional 16: 9 aspect ratio. In the designation of some models there is a number 24 and many think that this is a 24-inch monitor, and in stores you can see the same information on the price tag. But this is not entirely true, honest 24 "models have a 16:10 aspect ratio, and with a 16: 9 ratio, the diagonal is usually 23.8", which, however, is slightly smaller and this can be neglected.

Screen resolution

Monitors with Full HD resolution are the most balanced solution for today in terms of price / quality ratio. Higher resolution models are already significantly more expensive, and few people will notice the difference in image quality. In addition, the higher resolution also places higher demands on the power of the video card for gaming.

Matrix type

When choosing a monitor, it is very important to pay attention to such a criterion as a matrix. The best option would be an IPS or PLS matrix, due to its excellent color rendition and viewing angles.

There are also cheaper TN and specific VA matrices on the market, which are less common due to their higher cost. High-quality TN matrices with low response times are the best choice for gaming, but at the same time, such monitors are significantly more expensive and inferior in terms of color rendition and viewing angle to cheaper IPS, which are perfect for undemanding gamers.

Brightness and contrast

The question of what brightness and contrast should have a monitor screen someone lowers into the background, and someone pays too much attention to this. It is enough to know that the brightness of the matrix must be at least 250 cd / m2, and the optimal static contrast is at the level of 1000: 1.

Interface connectors

Modern video cards, starting with the GeForce 10xx and Radeon RX 4xx series, do not have an analog VGA / D-SUB output. It follows that all modern monitors must have a DVI, HDMI or DisplayPort connector.

Design

In the modern world, the buyer is so spoiled that just a functional device is not enough for him, give him a beautiful little thing that could get along with the design of his home or place of work.

Design is really important for many, if not the primary factor when choosing a monitor. But we recommend that you first of all pay attention to the characteristics and quality, based on reviews, ratings and user reviews.

The design can be deceiving and in a beautiful wrapper they can sell you a monitor that is not able to produce a high-quality picture, will annoy you and adversely affect your vision. But in this review there will be no such models.

Most popular monitors

Samsung S24F350FHI

Since this is Samsung, it has many proprietary features and one of them is a PLS matrix with an unusual 23.5 ″ diagonal, which is one of the IPS varieties promoted by the Korean tech giant.
Monitor Samsung S24F350FHI

The brightness of the backlight of this monitor is 250 cd / m2, and the response time of the matrix is 4 ms, which is quite enough for most dynamic games.

Of the interesting chips, we can single out the AMD FreeSync technology, the essence of which is to synchronize the scan rate with the frame rate in games (FPS). Thanks to this feature, the picture becomes smoother, and tears and freezes are a thing of the past. Therefore, if your PC is equipped with an AMD video adapter, you should definitely take a closer look at this monitor.

In terms of design, the model also did not disappoint, it is worth noting a useful addition in the form of a 75x75 mm platform for a wall suspension.

Philips 240V5QDAB

The response speed of the LCD panel is only 5ms. The backlight brightness is 250 cd / m 2, while there is a color calibration function that designers will appreciate. The appearance undoubtedly deserves attention, although not as impressive as that of the Samsung monitor.

Additional features include a 100x100 mm rear platform for suspension. This miracle of technological thought consumes up to 19 W, depending on the operating mode, although 60 W typical for many LCD monitors is not at all a lot.

Asus VZ229H

Despite the smaller diagonal of 21.5 ″, you cannot help falling in love with this monitor, it has a simply gorgeous design.
Monitor Asus VZ229H

This model is equipped with an IPS-matrix and is considered by many to be the best among monitors of this size. When space is not enough, the Asus VZ229H will come to the rescue, which will perfectly fit into the design of your vacation spot.

The brightness of the backlight and the response speed of the matrix completely coincide with the indicators of the previous model from Philips, the same 250 cd / m2 and 5 ms, respectively. Power consumption in different operating conditions is within 24 watts.

AOC I2481FXH

Another monitor that captivates with its design. What's so beautiful about him? 23.8 '' bezel-less IPS display with 4ms response speed and elegant stand.
Monitor AOC I2481FXH

By all accounts, this monitor is an excellent choice for home and work use. For designers, the quality of color rendering will not seem somehow supernatural, but it will definitely not be a shame to show it to guests, it is able to decorate any home. According to the developers, Porshe craftsmen worked on its design.

LG 24MP88HV-S

The model is the best in the line with IPS-matrices for universal use. Having a diagonal of 23.8 ″, the monitor is made on the basis of AH-IPS and it should be noted right away that this is an excellent choice for a photographer or designer, as it has a color gamut of more than 99% of the sRGB spectrum.
Monitor LG 24MP88HV-S

The response time is 5 ms, and the backlight with a brightness of 250 cd / m2, in combination with flicker-free technology, will save your eyesight and will not let your eyes get tired quickly.

Dell SE2717H

The cost of the products of this brand has never been democratic, but we chose this model not because it is an exception. This monitor is really worth the money.
Dell SE2717H Monitor

A high-quality 27-inch IPS-matrix with increased brightness of 300 cd / m2 and a response time of 6 ms is perfect for creating a small home theater.

The main feature of the model is dynamic frequency control using AMD FreeSync technology. This suggests that the monitor is better suited for a PC where an AMD video adapter is responsible for the graphics. Like most new products in 2017, it continues the trend towards frameless screens.

Viewsonic VX2776-SMHD

Inexpensive, but very cool frameless monitor with a 27-inch IPS-matrix with a brightness of 250 cd / m2, thanks to a response time of 4 ms, it is more suitable for game lovers who dream of a big screen.

Flicker-free backlighting will appeal to those who spend a lot of time at the computer. For such users, the developers have also provided a very important mode of attenuation of blue radiation, which does not create unnecessary strain on the eyes.

Conclusion

The monitor is a very important part not only of your computer, but also of your life. Comfort at work and play depends on it, as well as your vision. In addition, by saving on it, you risk losing money, time and nerves while going to services. Therefore, you should not neglect and save a lot on the monitor, it is purchased for a long time and can survive several upgrades or even a complete replacement of the PC. Buy the most popular, recommended models and the risk of getting screwed up will be significantly lower.

Introduction

Today 22 "widescreen monitors are the most popular in the mainstream market. But if you want more screen real estate, you have to fork out for a larger format monitor. After the phenomenal success of the model Iiyama B2403WS 24-inch monitors have become a very interesting alternative for demanding users in the field of games, photo processing and office applications. But this generation of panels, unfortunately, will disappear in the near future, so what about those who could not buy this "gem" from Iiyama (some users, by the way, even bought a couple of these monitors)? If you look at the tests of new products, they are boring. However, you shouldn't panic. The new 16: 9 1080p monitors have some advantages, but versatility comes first today - they are suitable not only for a PC, but also for connecting a game console and video player. In addition to this trend, the change is associated with a reduction in price: 1080p panels are cheaper to manufacture, and they look less bulky.

Observations

You might think that going from 22 inches to 24 or 26 would have the main advantage of an increase in resolution, as it goes from 1680 x 1050 to 1920 x 1200. However, there are already 22-inch Full-HD monitors on the market (same Viewsonic VX2260WM), which also give a high resolution. Surprisingly, 24 "monitors are also switching to Full-HD resolution, namely 1080p, that is, already downward (from 1200 lines to 1080). In addition to the fashion for 1080p, the reason for this transition can be called the price, since such panels are cheaper And the original 16: 9 format gives excellent compatibility with HD game consoles if you need to play at 720p or watch a high-definition movie. You will not get black bars at the top and bottom. At least in games. As usual with movies format 2.35 stripes will remain, even with a 16: 9 display format. However, interest in a 1080p panel resolution with a diagonal other than 22 inches is no longer obvious. If the computer is your work tool, then switching to a 1080p panel does not make sense. it is better to take a monitor with a resolution of 1920 x 1200. If you play only on a PC, then switching to 1080p does not make sense either. On the other hand, if you will connect different video sources to the monitor, and watching movies is your priority eten, then it is just better to choose a 1080p format panel.

Advantages and disadvantages

However, there is good news too. To begin with, the response time of the 24-inch panels with the claimed 2ms is really great, with one exception. It is interesting to note that manufacturers again decided to tackle the problem of response time seriously. After a rather relaxed 2008, when monitors came out one after another in response time, our tests prove that the 24-inch 1080p models do their best. On the other hand, the imprecise implementation of the Ovedrive technology is also striking. Most monitors maintain an overdrive pixel level for too long, that is, they have excessive Overdrive lag before the pixel reaches the desired brightness. In games this gives a smooth picture, but in movies you have to endure a lot of "noise". Despite their 16: 9 aspect ratio aimed at movies, these monitors won't be ideal for the task at hand. And besides the classic sparkling in films, you have to put up with unpleasant uniform color areas instead of smooth gradients (characteristic gradient stripes in the sky, in the snow, etc.). In general, 24-inch 1080p monitors are not ideal. But some show themselves quite well.

Acer H243Hbmid

The Acer H243H monitor arrived at our laboratory on time. After the test Acer V243W, a very pretty monitor, albeit not perfect, we were eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new 24-inch Full-HD display from the computer giant. It turned out to be a curious surprise. The finish of the monitor is simply luxurious, but the price is good - less than 300 euros in Europe! Unfortunately, at the time of publication, this model was not yet on sale in Russia.

Acer H243H | Design and finishing

In appearance, calling the H243H a cheap monitor simply does not turn out to be. Of course, the black plastic cannot be considered original, but there are many pleasant details. So, the control keys are touch-sensitive, they are beautifully highlighted in white and work very well. The high build quality shows that the manufacturer took it seriously. In general, even if the monitor does not take design awards, it cannot be classified as a "budget" one either.

Acer H243H | Ergonomics

Ergonomics are rather limited, there is only the ability to adjust the tilt of the panel. However, for a 24 "monitor at less than 300 euros, this is quite acceptable.

Acer H243H | Interfaces

The move to 1080p has had a positive effect on the 24 "monitor. Now, in addition to the classic inputs, there is also HDMI.

Acer H243H | Energy consumption

We measured the power consumption of the monitor. The Acer H243H monitor was the most economical of the 24 "1080p displays in our comparison test and consumes less than 30W in operation, which is better than most. 22 "monitors previous generation. In general, if ecology worries you, then you should take this particular model. In idle mode, we did not get any miracles, the 0.5 W level can be called quite familiar.

Acer H243H | Color rendering

The Acer H243H monitor is clearly not designed for photo processing. Of course, the default settings are correct, but the suggested modes (hot or cold) are not professional. If you want natural skin tones, we recommend choosing Hot Mode. The color temperature will be 6400 K. If you are picky (like us), then make the following settings: red = 78, green = 74, blue = 80. In this case, the color rendering graph will be as follows.

Recall that the graph shows the difference between the desired color shade and the one displayed by the panel.

  • If DeltaE> 3, then the displayed color differs significantly from the desired one, and the difference is noticeable to the naked eye.
  • If DeltaE<2, то LaCie считает калибровку успешной, небольшая разница остаётся, но вряд ли вы её заметите.
  • If DeltaE<1, то цветопередача считается великолепной.

The result is very good, almost all shades are perfect. But this is not the best monitor in this test, there are models with more accurate color reproduction.

The brightness of the black area Brightness of the white area Contrast
0,24 222,6 927,5: 1
0,17 160 941: 1

The default brightness is pretty good. It is not very high, but the depth of the black can be improved. Setting the brightness to 46, we got 160 cd / m², and at the same time the blacks became deeper. Contrast did not drop, on the contrary, it significantly exceeded 900: 1. The monitor has a dynamic backlight adjustment, which, in theory, gives a contrast ratio of 40,000: 1. Immediately, we will say that you will never get a similar level of contrast.

After the Gretag Eye-one Display 2 calibrator, we found that the Acer monitor has a standard color gamut, nothing more. We were somewhat disappointed.

The color gamut allows you to visually evaluate the palette. The surface of the triangle displays possible shades by combining the three primary colors at the corners. The larger the area of the triangle, the richer the shades will be.

Acer H243H | Backlight uniformity

We measured the uniformity of the panel backlighting. Of course, this is not the best result in our comparative testing, but we were quite satisfied with it. Moreover, there are no light leaks in the corners, which are observed in some other models.

We set the brightness and contrast at 50%, and then measure the uniformity of the backlighting of the white screen in 64 areas of equal size. The brightest area is taken as 100%, and the value of the black area measured above is taken as 0%. Accordingly, then we build the brightness values of all areas on this scale.

So far, the Acer H243H has performed quite well, with excellent contrast and the correct default setting. Let's take a look at the response time.

Acer H243H | Response time

The Acer H243H turned out to be quite fast, but not very accurate. The problem lies in the poor management of the Overdrive technology. Let me explain. The resulting graph is very good both on very sharp transitions (black-white-black) and on weak transitions (black - dark gray). In these cases, Overdrive technology is not overly implemented. But between these two areas, we see an increase in response time. Excessive pixel brightness lasts too long, capturing the next frame as well.

How important is it in practice? Yes, the response time of these models is very good, but transferring too light shades to the next frame leads to a visual increase in "noise", and in the worst case, to the appearance of artifacts in moving objects. Only a great monitor Iiyama B2403WS and no less worthy 22 " BenQ X2200W were able to get around this disadvantage, providing both a fast response time and accurate reproduction of shades.

Again, let me remind you of our testing methodology. The graph displays the delay values for transitions from different gray levels. A black-and-white transition is shown on the graph by a point with a value of X = 255, and all the other X points (125, 50, etc.) are already transitions from black to a certain gray level.

ISO response time is measured for black and white transition (0/255) only. While the value we measured was close to the manufacturer's specs, it doesn't tell us about the real responsiveness of the panel.

Acer H243H | Overdrive-afterglow

This monitor, as we noted above, has excessive Overdrive persistence. And according to the methodology of our testing, it belongs to the class "B". But to be honest, it is quite close to the "C" class.

Tom's Hardware Guide's testing methodology also assumes panel overdrive-persistence. How important is this assessment? this leads to the appearance of a characteristic “noise.” In animated clips, color distortions may appear. Sometimes completely different colors may appear on the monitor, for example, red with a green-yellow transition.

Acer H243H | Practical tests

For office use, the monitor fits quite well. Colors are accurate, contrast is excellent too. But don't forget to turn off dynamic contrast right away as it is annoying to use. DVDs look rather blurry, but smooth. The colors are nice too. High-definition video is no better. This time, insufficient support for subtle hues results in uniform color gradients. However, the Acer monitor performs well in games. The response time is great, but the color transitions are lacking in fidelity, meaning the remarks are the same as in the video. The monitor maintains the correct scaling mode depending on the source. If you play at 1280 x 1024, the screen will not stretch horizontally.

Acer H243H | Conclusion

All in all, the Acer H243H is a good and inexpensive monitor. We recommend it if your budget is tight. In games, the performance of the monitor is quite sufficient. The response time is excellent and the default settings are good. Before us is quite a nice monitor that you can safely buy.

Viewsonic VX2433wm

Taking the Viewsonic VX2433wm monitor for tests was not easy. The manufacturer is restructuring itself, so it closes its press offices in many countries. This time we were able to get our hands on the Viewsonic VX2433wm, but the future doesn't seem very bright. Hopefully, the manufacturer will overcome its internal difficulties, as it has often been a pioneer in bringing new technologies to market. It's enough to remember the monitor VX924 with Overdrive technology or first 22 "1080p display VX2260wm... In any case, we have a new 24-inch monitor. Following the fashion, it uses 1080p resolution. Let's see what the Viewsonic VX2433wm model turns out to be in practice.

Viewsonic VX2433wm Specifications

Viewsonic VX2433wm | Design and finishing

The finish is good, even if it remains quite traditional. Before us is again a black lacquered plastic, a blue LED - and that's it. Fortunately, the brightness of the LED does not dazzle in the dark. Among the original functions, we would like to note the keys placed on the side panel, which do not interfere with the beautiful appearance. In general, nothing revolutionary happened in this respect.

Viewsonic VX2433wm | Ergonomics

Here, too, everything is very simple. You will only be able to adjust the tilt of the panel. However, the stand is so lightweight that it is best to hold the monitor during this operation.

Viewsonic VX2433wm | Interfaces

As with the Acer monitor we tested earlier, the VX2433wm has an HDMI input to complement the traditional DVI and VGA. That's all.

Viewsonic VX2433wm | Energy consumption

The situation here is not so good. We got 42 watts, which is in line with the manufacturer's specifications. However, all competitors consume less. There is an economy mode, but the picture quality in it decreases too much. In general, you have to come to terms with the "gluttony" of this display.

Viewsonic VX2433wm LCD Monitor
Idle Power Consumption 0.5 watts
Power consumption with a brightness of 160 cd / m² 42 watts
OSD adjustment for 160 cd / m² brightness Brightness = 75
Change in power consumption depending on the picture Yes (via dynamic contrast ratio)
Change in energy consumption depending on external lighting No

At the moment, the Viewsonic VX2433WM left mixed impressions. But let's look at its graphics performance.

Viewsonic VX2433wm | Color rendering

The Viewsonic VX2433wm has at least one positive quality - the default color reproduction is pretty good. However, everything is relative. In 6500 K mode, the settings are almost perfect, except for a slight dominance of green tones, which is quite tolerable. Other regimes are a completely different matter. The 5000 K mode, according to our measurements, gave a temperature of 5300 K. The 9300 K mode actually turned out to be 8500 K. As for sRGB, which should give a color temperature at the level of this standard, we got a not very good 6100 K. 6500 K. But if you want, you can try the following settings: red = 83, green = 83, blue = 95. With a brightness of 60 and a contrast of 50, we got the following color rendering graph.

In general, the color reproduction is good, but as you can see from the graph, the calibrator was able to improve the color accuracy, although this monitor is still not suitable for photographers. In fact, in terms of color rendering, the Viewsonic VX2433wm has the worst result in our tests.

The brightness of the black area Brightness of the white area Contrast
0,17 122,7 721: 1
0,2 160 800: 1

The depth of black is good, nothing more. But, oddly enough, the default brightness is pretty low. And the contrast is not as good as we had hoped. So we raised the brightness to 75, after which we got a reasonable 160 cd / m² and a decent 800: 1 contrast ratio. But again, this is the worst result in our comparative testing.

The color gamut is pretty standard. Our Gretag Macbeth calibrator revealed no surprises.

Viewsonic VX2433wm | Backlight uniformity

The backlight uniformity is not good. Light leaks are noticeable in the corners, there is a halo at the bottom of the panel, which is confirmed by visual sensations on a black screen.

At the moment, the Viewsonic VX2433wm is not very pleasing to us. Apart from the stylish looks, everything else is inferior to the competition. Perhaps we are in for a surprise in response time? What if we are faced with a model with well-controlled Ovedrive technology?

Viewsonic VX2433wm | Response time

The response time of the Viewsonic VX2433wm is quite long. By this criterion, alas, the monitor fell behind the competitors.

The persistence time is quite long - it exceeds 29 ms. Considering that Viewsonic sells this monitor in the 2ms category ... It looks like the Overdrive technology doesn't work here at all. Based on the graph, this is likely.

Viewsonic VX2433wm | Overdrive-afterglow

We did not find excessive overdrive persistence on this monitor. In principle, with such a long response time, this is logical.

Viewsonic VX2433wm | Practical tests

This monitor is well suited for office work. But in other areas, the results are mediocre. Films suffer from uneven backlighting. A bright halo is noticeable at the bottom of the panel, especially in 2.35 movies, which do not cover the entire screen. On the contrary, there is little sparking and "noise", the dynamics in the dark areas of the picture is quite decent. As for games, we have the worst monitor in this comparative test. Traces behind objects are too noticeable. In general, if you are a gamer, then you should bypass this monitor.

Viewsonic VX2433wm | Conclusion

Well, it's impossible to win over and over again. And this can be clearly seen in the Viewsonic range of monitors over the past few years. The response time of this panel is too slow, so it does not give the smooth impression required for movies or games. The backlight is not uniform. To be honest, we've seen better models, including those from Viewsonic. Let's leave this model aside for now and wait for what this manufacturer will prepare for us after its reorganization.

Viewsonic VX2433wm Ratings

Ergonomics and interfaces 7/10
Color rendering 8/10
Games 6/10
Films 7/10
Price / performance ratio 6/10

Advantages.

  • Good default settings.

disadvantages.

  • The response time is too long;
  • fairly high power consumption;
  • light halo at the bottom of the panel.

Iiyama E2407HDS

The Iiyama E2407HDS has a heavy burden of heir. Before us is one of the monitors fighting for the title of the receiver of the famous Iiyama B2403WS... Other candidates include the E2409HDS model, whose tests we will present in the near future. This is a 2ms 1080p panel, and our expectations were pretty high in terms of response time. Will this monitor take on the challenge and be the best option for gamers?

Specifications Iiyama E2407HDS

Contrast 10,000: 1 dyn.
Brightness 300 cd / m²
Response time 2ms (GTG)

Loudspeakers 2x 3 W
Interfaces VGA, DVI, HDMI, audio input
Retail price EUR 280 in Europe; 21.5 thousand rubles in Russia

Iiyama E2407HDS | Design and finishing

Iiyama didn't bother with the design very much. Before us is a traditional black glossy case with a metallic stripe on the bottom. The finish is average, but the build quality is decent.

Iiyama E2407HDS | Ergonomics

In the area of ergonomics, you only have to be content with the tilt of the panel. However, this monitor in Europe is sold even cheaper than the models presented above, so there is no need to complain. In Russia at the time of publication, we found only one offer Iiyama E2407HDS for 21.5 thousand rubles, the price is clearly overpriced.

Iiyama E2407HDS | Interfaces

Unsurprisingly, the set of interfaces is similar to the models presented above. There is an HDMI input, as well as DVI and VGA.

Iiyama E2407HDS | Energy consumption

Iiyama E2407HDS performed well in terms of power consumption. We measured just under 33 watts. In standby mode, power consumption is quite standard - 0.5 W.

LCD Monitor Iiyama E2407HDS
Idle Power Consumption 0.5 watts
Power consumption with a brightness of 160 cd / m² 33 watts
OSD adjustment for 160 cd / m² brightness Brightness = 67
Change in power consumption depending on the picture No
Change in energy consumption depending on external lighting No

The Iiyama E2407HDS is not configured as well by default as its predecessor. And in this respect, Iiyama took a step back. By default, the colors are too cold, so manual adjustment is indispensable. In 6500 K mode, we get 7000 K. But for editing it is enough to switch to custom mode and slightly reduce the intensity of blue. We propose an example: red = 100, green = 100, blue = 96, after which, with a brightness of 100 and a contrast of 70, we got the following graph.

As you can see, this little trick has already made the most of the color reproduction. Somewhat inaccurate reproduction of dark shades can be improved by slightly lowering the brightness.

The brightness of the black area Brightness of the white area Contrast
0,3 253 843: 1
0,19 160 842: 1

By default, the brightness is too high. Of course, we have met worse, but if you sit in front of the screen all day, then it is better to lower the brightness. At position 67, we got a brightness of 160 cd / m² without losing contrast. By the way, the contrast is quite good, although it is inferior to the Acer H243H monitor.

The color gamut is standard, nothing more. The results are again similar.

Iiyama E2407HDS | Backlight uniformity

As with the Viewsonic, the Iiyama E2407HDS's backlight uniformity leaves a lot to be desired. Light leaks in the corners are noticeable, as well as a small halo in the lower part of the panel, which is no longer so pronounced in the upper part. All this will be noticeable against a dark background.

At the moment, the Iiyama E2407HDS has shown itself well, although it did not please with anything in comparison with the famous predecessor. How about dynamic qualities?

Iiyama E2407HDS | Response time

The response time of the Iiyama E2407HDS is pretty good. Ever wondered if this monitor will perform well in games? The answer is yes. But this model does not have enough control over the Overdrive technology, so sparkling will be noticeable in the films. Yes, the response time is clearly inferior to the one mentioned B2403WS .

High measured values are associated with inaccurate shades during transitions. Sure, the picture is smooth, but the colors are inaccurate, at least for a while. Does it matter? In games, some textures can be distorted while moving. This is clearly seen in the example of the game MotorStorm Pacific Rift.

Iiyama E2407HDS | Overdrive-afterglow

Here we again noted a serious Overdrive afterglow, according to our methodology the monitor belongs to the "B" class, although, to be honest, Iiyama is very close to the "C" class.

Iiyama E2407HDS | Practical tests

For office work, if you consider all the tips given above, the monitor will do well. And for amateur photo processing too. However, of course, games will win the best from Iiyama E2407HDS. They run quite smoothly, even if attentive gamers will notice the texture modification as they move. In films, the situation is completely different. We noticed quite a bit of arcing on the uniform color arrays on the DVD, but still less than the Acer monitor. In HD, the situation gets worse, and the "noise" becomes very annoying. And the culprit is too little control over the Overdrive technology. In addition, light leaks from above and below are noticeable if the film produces black stripes.

Iiyama E2407HDS | Conclusion

Is the Iiyama E2407HDS a worthy successor to the B2403WS? Yes and no. On the one hand, the response time pleased us, but to it is added the poorly controlled Overdrive technology, which was implemented almost perfectly by its predecessor. In addition, we have to come to terms with poor uniformity of backlighting, but this, as we have learned, is a common problem with many 24-inch Full-HD monitors. In principle, the Iiyama E2407HDS can be called an inexpensive monitor for gamers, but against the background of the B2403WS results, it still disappointed us. Let's hope the other E2409HDS is better.

BenQ M2400HD

BenQ M2400HD is a 24-inch Full-HD monitor aimed mainly at gamers who prefer consoles, but who cannot refuse a computer either (for example, due to first-person shooters, and we understand them). As usual, BenQ decided not to be stingy by presenting a monitor with a classic design, complete with a USB hub and webcam. So gamers won't be bored.

BenQ M2400HD Specifications
Diagonal 24"
Native resolution 1920 x 1080
Contrast 10,000: 1 dyn.
Brightness 300 cd / m²
Response time 2ms (GTG)
Number of colors 16.7 million
H / V viewing angles 170/160
Loudspeakers 2x 1 W
Interfaces VGA, HDMI, DVI, audio input, 3 USB, webcam
Retail price 359 euros in Europe; 16 thousand rubles in Russia

BenQ M2400HD | Design and finishing

This monitor has the best finish in our comparison test. For a price 60 euros higher than Acer (although in Russia the prices for BenQ are, on the contrary, cheaper), we get a beautiful case that combines white with metallic. The appearance is very good, such a monitor is unlikely to remain invisible on the desktop. However, we're not really sure whether the back panel should have been adorned with textured plastic.

BenQ M2400HD | Ergonomics

You can only adjust the height of the stand. On the other hand, the keys are quite comfortable, and there is also a USB socket on the top panel that allows you to connect a BenQ webcam.

BenQ M2400HD | Interfaces

BenQ has done its best in this regard. In addition to HDMI, DVI and VGA inputs, we note the presence of a USB-hub and a web-camera with a resolution of 2 megapixels, however, not of the highest quality.

BenQ M2400HD | Energy consumption

Power consumption is average in our testing at 35W in operation. The monitor draws 0.5W in standby state.

BenQ M2400HD LCD Monitor
Idle Power Consumption 0.5 watts
Power consumption with a brightness of 160 cd / m² 35 watts
OSD adjustment for 160 cd / m² brightness Brightness = 63
Change in power consumption depending on the picture No
Change in energy consumption depending on external lighting No

At the moment BenQ M2400HD stands out among the competitors with its luxurious design, and the set of interfaces is quite complete, even if the price is slightly higher. How about performance?

BenQ M2400HD | Color rendering

Not everything is perfect for the BenQ M2400HD. The manufacturer should work on the default settings. Normal mode is too hot - 6200 K, others are virtually impossible to use. In general, manual settings are indispensable. We selected the user mode and set the following settings: red = 95, green = 91, blue = 98. We left the brightness at 90 and the contrast at 50.

Before us is the best result in this comparative testing. It is a pity that for this it was necessary to carry out, albeit minimal, but manual adjustment. Why doesn't BenQ have the monitor factory adjusted right away?

The brightness of the black area Brightness of the white area Contrast
0,3 227 757: 1
0,22 160 727: 1

In our opinion, the default brightness is somewhat high. We reduced it to 63. In this case, we got a brightness that is better suited for long-term work with the monitor, while the contrast is also good, close to the level of the Iiyama monitor just tested.

BenQ does not use wide-gamut backlighting, which is noticeable. The color gamut is pretty standard.

BenQ M2400HD | Backlight uniformity

The backlight uniformity of this monitor is slightly better than the other tested models. It is, of course, also not perfect, there is a noticeable halo at the bottom of the panel, but there are still fewer leaks in the corners.

The BenQ M2400HD monitor turned out to be quite interesting. Of course, it's a shame that the factory adjustment leaves a lot to be desired, forcing us to make manual adjustments.

BenQ M2400HD | Response time

The BenQ M2400HD is as fast as the Iiyama monitor tested just above. If and choose between two models, but certainly not by this criterion. The specifications of the two monitors are very close to each other, as are the measured response times.

In fact, the monitor is fast, but as you can see from the graph above, it has serious Overdrive persistence, which noticeably affects the color accuracy during object movements.

BenQ M2400HD | Overdrive-afterglow

Again, due to the excessive Overdrive persistence, we are forced to classify the M2400HD in the "B" category.

BenQ M2400HD | Practical tests

Before us is, without a doubt, the best monitor for office work. And this is due not only to the appearance, but also to the convenient USB hub. By following our guidelines for adjusting your monitor, you will have a versatile model for most tasks. Response times are excellent and gamers will be able to enjoy gaming in optimal conditions, although moving objects will not always have the correct colors. However, they will at least be sharp. Gamers on consoles are also not forgotten thanks to the HDMI interface, through which you can connect the next generation consoles. BenQ has been a bit overdrive on Overdrive, however, so hues can lose fidelity as they transition from one frame to the next. This is especially noticeable in DVD and Blu-ray movies by the presence of unpleasant sparks. Finishing the conversation about the video, we note that you have to endure the jerks that sometimes appear during camera movements.

BenQ M2400HD | Conclusion

Overall, the BenQ M2400HD monitor convinced us. It showed the qualities no worse than those of Iiyama, but at the same time the appearance is more elegant, and the set of interfaces is richer. However, in Europe you will have to pay 80 euros more for a BenQ monitor (in Russia, on the contrary, less). But this price is quite acceptable given the good equipment. It's a shame we can't call this model excellent due to various complaints, including poor default settings and overdriven Overdrive technology. But if the monitor is not excellent, then it is definitely a good one.

BenQ M2400HD Ratings

Asus VK246H

The Asus VK246H monitor aims to bring the famous computer giant back to the forefront of displays. It should be admitted that the previous creations of this company, in particular the 22-inch LCD monitor Asus VW223B, we were not very convinced. Asus' latest monitor aimed at gamers somehow didn't do the job very well. Therefore, with some trepidation, we started testing the new Asus VK246H, which, although not perfect, gives interesting perspectives for gamers.

Asus VK246H specifications
Diagonal 24"
Native resolution 1920 x 1080
Contrast 20,000: 1 dyn.
Brightness 300 cd / m²
Response time 2ms (GTG)
Number of colors 16.7 million
H / V viewing angles 170/160
Loudspeakers 2x 2 W
Interfaces VGA, HDMI, DVI, audio input, webcam
Retail price € 300 in Europe; 21.5 thousand rubles in Russia

Asus VK246H | Design and finishing

Before us is quite a classic finish for an Asus monitor with a black lacquered body and a thin aluminum strip under the panel. The strip contains the OSD control keys. Not very original. By the way, pay attention to the not very successful integration of the web-camera in the ledge on top.

Asus VK246H | Ergonomics

Ergonomics are no better than other models. You will be able to adjust the tilt of the panel without touching the webcam frame. At BenQ, at least it is attached through a hinge.

Asus VK246H | Interfaces

The set of interfaces is less complete than that of BenQ, but still better than that of other models. The webcam provides a 1.3 megapixel resolution, and there is also a webcam-only USB port. Otherwise, everything is classic: HDMI, DVI, VGA.

Asus VK246H | Energy consumption

Energy consumption is average. 35W - the same as the BenQ monitor. In standby mode, the power consumption is slightly higher than usual - 0.8 W.

LCD Monitor Asus VK246H
Idle Power Consumption 0.8 watts
Power consumption with a brightness of 160 cd / m² 35 watts
OSD adjustment for 160 cd / m² brightness Brightness = 56
Change in power consumption depending on the picture Yes, with ACR enabled
Change in energy consumption depending on external lighting No

So far, the new Asus VK246H monitor has performed quite well. Let's move on to color rendering measurements.

Asus VK246H | Color rendering

The Asus VK246H monitor is poorly configured by default. Colors are too cold in "normal mode" and too hot in "hot" mode. There is also an sRGB mode, but, as often happens, it doesn't help either. In general, if these modes are enough for gamers, photographers can be recommended to look for another model. For information, the "normal" mode gives 6900 K, sRGB - 6100 K. I had to resort to manual settings: red = 96, green = 92, blue = 100. We left the brightness at 90 and the contrast at 80.

The color rendition is really good. Most of the shades are just perfect. Considering the small number of adjustments we made manually, it's a shame that the manufacturer didn't bother to do it at the factory.

The brightness of the black area Brightness of the white area Contrast
0,3 235 783: 1
0,19 160 842: 1

Unlike other monitors, you get better contrast with lower brightness. Therefore, it is better to choose brightness at 56, which will give a contrast ratio of 842: 1. Wonderful!

Asus has opted not to integrate wide-gamut backlighting. You can see that the color gamut is very close to other models, although the blues are slightly weaker here.

Asus VK246H | Backlight uniformity

The backlight uniformity of this monitor is excellent. However, even here you can see small light leaks in the corners. They are visible against a completely black background. It looks like all 1080p monitors have a similar defect. It must be taken into account.

Everything is pretty good at the moment. We were pleased with the Asus VK246H monitor, although the default settings could have been better. Contrast is good and backlight uniformity is not as bad as other models.

Asus VK246H | Response time

The Asus VK246H monitor is as fast as its competitors. There are the same drawbacks here, namely the overdriven Overdrive technology.

Potentially, this monitor is capable of giving response times below 5ms, but Ovedrive technology blurs the picture on sequential frame changes. The result is "noise" in movies and distorted textures in games.

Asus VK246H | Overdrive-afterglow

The same problem, the same class. According to our method, the display is classified as "B".

Asus VK246H | Practical tests

For office applications, the monitor is quite decent. But it's not as ergonomic as the BenQ. In terms of video, the same defects float up here as on other 24-inch 1080p monitors. Namely, a lot of sparkling, and in high-resolution films, large uniform gradients are noticeable in the background instead of a smooth transition of shades. In general, the picture is not perfect. In games, the monitor shows itself much better, there is no afterglow on the screen even after sharp movements of the character.

Asus VK246H | Conclusion

The Asus monitor is no better or worse than other 24-inch 1080p displays on the market. In terms of price in Europe, it is between the levels of BenQ and Acer (although in Russia the price of Asus VK246H is quite high). But the Iiyama E2407HDS is also inexpensive. The default settings leave a lot to be desired, and movies on an HD screen are not as good to look at because of the uniform gradients and "noise".

Asus VK246H Ratings
Design and finishing 8/10
Ergonomics and interfaces 8/10
Color rendering 8/10
Games 9/10
Films 6/10
Price / performance ratio 7/10
Final rating 7.5 / 10

Advantages.

  • Good equipment;
  • low response time.

disadvantages.

  • "Noise" and sparking in films.

Conclusion

In the end, are we our worthy replacement Iiyama B2403WS? Not yet. All monitors except the Viewsonic VX2433wm offer similar response times, but lack the great Overdrive control we saw with the B2403WS. Anyway, which model would we recommend? Let's start with the BenQ M2400HD monitor, which features good ergonomics, stylish design and a good set of interfaces. Moreover, the price for it in Russia is low. But if you are only interested in performance, then look at the Iiyama E2407HDS model, it is sold at a very attractive price in Europe (which cannot be said about Russia).

After testing 24-inch Full-HD monitors, a number of trends can be noted, some of which are very disturbing. Firstly, in four cases out of five, we encountered problems with the uniformity of the backlight. Secondly, in four cases out of five, Overdrive technology was implemented overly, in films there was too much sparkling and "noise". And at the moment we can not call any of the models excellent. Hopefully the next generation of 1080p displays will be better adjusted at the factory, as, with the exception of the Acer model, everyone has the same flaw. Stay in the ranks of our readers!

The LG 24MP88HV monitor was presented to the public at IFA 2016 and immediately won the IFA Design Award 2016. LG did not stuff it with the most modern technologies and increase the resolution - Full HD monitors are more affordable, and there is no need to urgently change the video card when buying such a display.

The manufacturer proudly calls the model Infinity Display, and the IPS-matrix used in it - Neo Blade 3, hinting that this is the third generation of such "frameless" panels. And let's say right away - this time LG managed to do something really new.

Despite the number 24 in the name, the real diagonal of the 24MP88HV screen is 23.8 inches. Apparently, it is built on an AH-IPS panel LM238WF4 own production of LG, delivered to the conveyor at the end of 2015. It is a Full HD matrix with a standard aspect ratio of 16: 9 and a pixel density of 93 ppi. The usual W-LED backlighting without SHI modulation (Flicker-Free) with a color gamut close to the sRGB standard is used. The matrix is capable of reproducing up to 16.7 million colors and is 8-bit using the FRC method.

The declared maximum brightness is 250 cd / m2, the static contrast ratio is 1000: 1, the viewing angles are 178 degrees in both planes, the response time measured by the GtG method is 5 ms. In general, a real classic of the genre for modern and not the most expensive LG Display panels.

Uses the "bezel-less" design of the Neo Blade III. Still in quotation marks, since "framelessness" still boils down to the fact that the protective layer covering the matrix extends to the frame of the panel. The black inner frames are visible on all sides, but this time even the lower one is not covered with a plastic overlay, and the side and upper frames are reduced to 2.5 mm - at least that's what the manufacturer said at the time of the announcement of the novelty.

In fact, everything turned out to be not so rosy: the width of the inner frames of the screen, according to our measurements, is 3.5 and 6 mm (for all, except for the bottom, and for the bottom, respectively). Add to this the distance between the panel and the plastic rim, as well as the thickness of the latter - and the floor at Read 7 and 9.5 mm. However, this is still less than previous monitors from LG and their competitors.

The maximum refresh rate of 60 Hz can be achieved with any type of connection. Among video inputs, the monitor has two HDMI v1.4 ports and one analog D-Sub - an odd combination for a mid-2016 display. Where is DVI-D, let alone DisplayPort? There is no direct access to the LUT, but the manufacturer claims factory calibration.

To connect headphones or an external speaker system, there is a 3.5 mm audio output. The monitor also has a 3.5 mm audio input, but there are no USB ports - not that price segment.

The LG 24MP88HV monitor has a built-in MaxxAudio speaker system with two speakers familiar from many other LG monitors, but this time the power of each is lower - 5 watts.

The novelty does not use any of the available adaptive synchronization technologies, but LG has provided it with a number of software "chips": Black Stabilizer (increasing the visibility of extreme dark shades), Reader Mode (analogous to the Low Blue Light mode with a reduced intensity of the blue component of the spectrum), Color Weakness (color depth reduction), Super + Resolution (additional sharpening), On-Screen Control (control of display settings using a separate program), Screen Split 2.0 (division of the screen into several areas + PiP function).

The new ArcLine stand, combined with a simple center stand, limits the ergonomics of the monitor to tilting the cabinet to a narrow working range. But, fortunately, despite the small thickness of the 24MP88HV, the manufacturer was able to find a place for a VESA mount in the standard 75 × 75 mm. This combination is extremely rare.

The LG 24MP88HV has no competitors - that is, monitors without external and almost without internal bezels - now do not. But if you forget about this trifle, then a large number of similar solutions immediately appear. At the same time, the new LG still remains one of the most affordable in its segment - it can be purchased for 14,500-15,000 rubles. Competitors who are more serious in terms of ergonomics of the stand and interfaces for connection are sold at a price of 16-17 thousand rubles.

⇡ Package contents and appearance

The scope of delivery of the tested sample of the monitor includes the following:

  • D-Sub cable;
  • external power supply unit with built-in power cable;
  • plastic element of the wire laying system;
  • user guide;
  • factory calibration report;
  • a table with data on energy consumption of many LG models;
  • information on the delivery set.

Outwardly, the hero of the review as a whole does not differ much from other new products. The main focus of the manufacturer was on the new Neo Blade III matrix, which made it possible to abandon the overlays on the inner frames. Otherwise, we have before us a long curved ArcLine stand, familiar from other LG models, a glossy white body and a gray plastic frame along the contour of the panel.

The cable routing system is made using a special plastic element supplied, which can be attached to the B-pillar.

The latter is attached to the monitor using two standard screws that are screwed into the holes located at the bottom of the case.

By default, the ergonomics of the 24MP88HV are tilted within the range of -5 to +15 degrees. The rigidity of the whole structure is not the highest - the body sways on the stand from any touch. For those who want more rigidity and more degrees of freedom, we recommend buying a VESA bracket.

The base of the stand is made of metal. The upper part is plastic with a brushed aluminum look. For better grip on the work surface, three small rubber feet are used, which hold the monitor fairly well in one position.

The coating of the matrix, or rather its protective plastic layer, is matte, which is rather strange given modern trends - most manufacturers (and users as well) prefer semi-matte screens. The matte texture is clearly visible in the above image. The crystalline effect will probably be noticeable, but how much - we will find out in the "Testing" section on the next page.

The quality of materials and workmanship is average - the monitor is fully consistent with its price segment. Most of the questions arise about the unevenness of the gaps between the matrix and the case itself (plastic edging), but I am glad that for the 24MP88HV the manufacturer chose white gloss, and not black that instantly becomes covered with fingerprints and scratches.

All interface connectors are located at the rear of the case and are oriented towards the rear for easy connection. The sticker on the body of the device provides additional information on the monitor version (REV0) and production date (January 2016).

The built-in acoustics are represented by the familiar MaxxAudio system, but with two speakers of 5 W each, located on the bottom edge of the case, on either side of the joystick. Their maximum volume is generally sufficient, but not as high as in LG monitors with a larger diagonal. The overall playback quality is also lower than that of the older brothers. Only the middle frequencies are clearly audible, but there is no wheezing at maximum volume. Our rating is 3 out of 5. For background music, system sounds, Skype conversations or other similar activities, such acoustics will be sufficient. Unless, of course, you are picky enough.

⇡ Menu and control

Monitor control is carried out using a five-way joystick, which is located in the center of the lower edge of the device. It also has a built-in not very bright power LED with a white glow, which can be turned off if necessary.

There are no complaints about the convenience of control, the menu responsiveness is high (except for the first level - the radial menu), the processing of pressing the joystick is almost instantaneous.

As soon as you move the joystick, a circle with five sectors appears on the screen. Quick access options include turning off the monitor, switching to source selection, switching preset modes, and hiding the OSD from the screen. By tilting the joystick left / right, you can quickly change the volume level of the built-in speaker.

The main menu is always on the right side of the screen, at its full height. It is strict and gloomy, black color prevails. The default language is English. The menu structure is familiar, but some sections are missing.

The third subsection presents additional parameters responsible for color accuracy. These include gamma, color temperature, primary color enhancement, and 6-axis hue and saturation color correction. The fourth subsection is locked for digital connection, but it contains the parameters responsible for the position of the picture on the screen when using D-Sub.

Turn off the power LED, select the menu localization language, activate the automatic sleep mode in case of long inactivity, lock the menu and turn off the "beeper" in the penultimate section - General.

The last section suggests using a single button to reset all parameters to their default values. Access to the service menu was not found.
