Smartphone Huawei Y5 II Black (CUN-U29) - Reviews. Huawei Y9 review: it has outgrown Huawei's budget y

Budget smartphones were originally simple "dialers" that allowed surfing the Internet a little. Now inexpensive smartphones They are trying with all their might to be similar to the older models, but at the same time to remain as inexpensive. For example, Huawei Y5 2018 has an 18: 9 screen, 4G support, and a separate microSD slot.

Appearance

Huawei Y5 2018 is one of the most available smartphones company, so it is difficult to demand from him any features in the design and materials of the case. But, nevertheless, the smartphone does not look frankly cheap. Cover and frame made of quality plastic with a matte finish. The smartphone is available in two colors - black and blue. And if the black modification may have problems with prints on the case, then on the blue one, which came to us for testing, "fingers" are visible only under the rays of hard light, for example, a flash or the sun.

There are no problems with the build quality - all panels fit well, there are no uneven joints and large gaps. But most of all, I was surprised by the very high torsional rigidity of the case, which is absolutely not expected from a budget all-plastic smartphone without a metal frame at the base. But still there is something to complain about - with a light tapping on the body, the lock keys and volume control are actively rattling.

There is a speaker in front of the display, front-camera, light / proximity sensor, as well as a front flash hidden by translucent glass. From the rear, only the camera and rear flash unit is visible, which protrudes slightly above the cover.

On the left side there is a three-section tray for installing a pair of nanoSIM SIM cards and microSD media, which should be noted as the advantages of a smartphone. On the right side, only the lock and volume control keys are installed.

A standard audio jack is installed on top, and a single microphone and a microUSB connector at the bottom.

Display

The tested smartphone uses an IPS-matrix with a diagonal of 5.45 inches and a resolution of 720 * 1440 (HD +), that is, with a newfangled aspect ratio of 18: 9. Safety glass no 2.5D effect. The display is not particularly afraid of minor scratches and abrasions. The side bezels of the display are quite thick. However, it is difficult to demand more from a budget smartphone. Although it is difficult not to remember here which has no side frames at all. The display recognizes up to 5 simultaneous clicks, which is often more than enough.

When the maximum backlight power is set, the brightness of the white field is 422.94 cd / m2, while the brightness of the black field is only 0.384 cd / m2, that is, the static contrast is 1101: 1. The results are good in principle, but excellent for a budget solution.

There are few color display settings. In fact, only an adjustable blue filter (so-called "night mode") is provided, as well as a color temperature setting. We usually test displays with default color temperature settings, but in the case of the subject we had to make an exception and make corrections, because in the standard display mode, the deviation of Delta E colors on the gray wedge goes off scale (up to 27.5), and on the primary colors (RGBCMY ) reaches a value of 12.6, while the color temperature is extremely overestimated, and the color balance is significantly dominated by the blue component. When you drag the adjustment slider to the extreme left position (warm colors), the maximum Delta E deviation in primary colors is only 5.2, and in grayscale it does not exceed 8, which is a very good indicator for a budget smartphone. In addition, the color temperature is quite close to the standard, and in the entire range of lightness of shades. In general, with the introduction of simple manual adjustments, the display is quite capable of reproducing an image with fairly accurate color reproduction. Separately, it is worth noting the high correspondence of the measured gamma to the reference value of 2.2.

Sound

This is where the smartphone fully reveals its budget nature. First, only one microphone is used. That is, in principle, there is no question of any active noise cancellation, and, of course, there is no dedicated microphone for video recording either. Secondly, the smartphone uses only one speaker, which combines the functions of spoken and system. And if the speaker copes well with the first task, then with the reproduction of music and ringtones everything is pretty sad. The sound is flat, inexpressive, with poor detail, there is no low-frequency range at all, the high-frequency range is poorly worked out.

However, the smartphone is not positioned as a multimedia combine, but at least the ringtone should be heard in any conditions. But even here the Y5 2018 can't really please. When playing a test sinusoidal signal with a frequency of 1 kHz at a distance of 1 meter from the smartphone, a level of 66.7 dBA was recorded. And this is one of the worst results among all smartphones we tested.

Fortunately, the situation is completely opposite on the analog audio output. For starters, the volume level on the analog audio output turned out to be quite high. When playing a test signal and operating on a 32 Ohm load, a level of 423.7 mV was recorded, and when using a 16 Ohm load, it was 268.5 mV. During sound quality testing with RightMark AudioAnalyzer software and an external sound card Creative E-MU 0204 USB received a final grade of "very good", and for many of the parameters under study, an "excellent" grade was earned. I was particularly impressed by the very low noise level and wide dynamic range.

Overall results 24 bit / 48 kHz

Performance

The smartphone is based on the MediaTek MT6739 system-on-chip. This 64-bit SoC is based on 4 Cortex-A53 cores with a frequency of up to 1.5 GHz and was specially designed for the most affordable smartphones running on 4G networks. Unfortunately, the MT6739 video subsystem is responsible for an extremely weak integrated solution PowerVR GE8100 with a frequency of 570 MHz, which supports a screen resolution of no more than 720 * 1440 (as in the tested smartphone). As for working in 4G networks, you should not count on huge performance here either, because only Cat-4 (DL) / Cat5 (UL) is supported with a maximum data transfer rate of 150 and 50 Mbps, respectively. There are also small pleasant bonuses. For example, hardware support for H.265 / HEVC decoding.
System performance was measured in synthetics PCMark, 3DMark, Geekbench 4, AnTuTu v7. Memory speed was evaluated using the AndroBench application. Testing was also carried out in cross-platform javascript tests (Octane, Mozilla Kraken JavaScript and SunSpider). The results of these tests significantly depend on the browser used, so we used Google chrome as the most common.
The following smartphones were chosen as opponents:
: MediaTek MT6737T, 3 GB, RAM, 5.5 inches, 720 * 1280;
: MediaTek MT6737 2GB RAM 5.0 inch 720 * 1280;
: Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 1GB RAM 5.0 inch 720 * 1280;

Camera

The smartphone is equipped with a front camera with a resolution of 5 megapixels and aperture lens f / 2.2, which is typical for a budget device. The camera performed surprisingly well in sufficient lighting. Formally, Huawei Y5 2018 is capable of taking selfies in complete darkness, because it is equipped with an LED flash, and with adjustable brightness. But in practice, the flash is of no use, because at the maximum power level at a distance of 1 meter, it provides an illumination of 1.37 lux. No, this is not a typo - just a little over 1 lux. The question remains - why was the flash made also adjustable? A screen in flash mode (with a white fill) could provide an illumination of about 4 lux. But in the camera settings this function is not provided, so you don't even have to think about taking a selfie in the dark.

The main (rear) flash is much more powerful - a value of 20.45 lux was recorded at a distance of 1 meter from the smartphone. However, this is also not much, but already enough for night photography. But in complete darkness, autofocus completely refuses to work, although the preliminary illumination for focusing works correctly. This is a clear firmware issue and should be fixed over time.

The rear camera is based on a sensor with a resolution of 8 megapixels, lens aperture f / 2.2. In general, as in the case of the front camera, the parameters are quite standard for their price class. As such, there is no dedicated professional (manual) mode, but it is possible to select a white balance preset, as well as to set the sensitivity level in the range of ISO 100… 1600 in steps of 1 EV.

Transferring control to the camera using the Camera 2 API is impossible, just as it is impossible to shoot in RAW, so it makes no sense to measure the noise level of the matrix due to too active noise reduction when saving in JPEG. To assess image quality, the test pattern was captured at ISO sensitivities of 100-1600 in increments of 1 EV. Below are the crop fragments.

Sample pictures

Macro photography

In macro mode, the tested smartphone has difficulty focusing on the selected points, or it focuses completely on the wrong object that was selected. In the examples below in the left image, the focus was on the subject in the foreground, in the middle photo in the middle ground, and also on the distant subject in the right photo. But correct targeting was possible only on the object in the foreground.

Illumination 50 lux + flash
Illumination 3 lux + flash

Video recording

The subject has an HD + screen, but he is capable of recording video at FullHD resolution. The flow rate is limited to 30 fps. However, there is no special need to use the 1080 / 30p mode, because the resolution of the matrix / lens combination is not high even in the center, and the edges of the image are very blurred (for which we should thank a simple lens). A similar problem manifests itself in the photography mode, but not so much. In general, given that the setting of the maximum resolution does not give any gain, in order to save space on the media, it is quite possible to get by with the 720 / 30p mode.

Autonomous work

The smartphone is equipped with a 3020 mAh battery, which is average for a budget smartphone. For comparison, it is equipped with a 3300 mAh battery - only 2630 mAh, and the manufacturer placed a 4100 mAh battery in the long-liver's budget "dialer". In reading mode, the smartphone lasted 833 minutes, in FullHD video playback mode - 625 minutes, and in game mode - 270 minutes.

For complete charger rather modest characteristics are declared - 5V / 1A, and the SoC used does not support fast charging. During testing, from 0 to 85%, the charge indicator reached in 130 minutes, and it took 163 minutes to fully recharge the battery. It seems to be slow by modern standards, but compared to direct competitors, this is a good result.

Conclusion

The smartphone is relatively inexpensive, so some of the disadvantages seem to be not too quality camera he can be forgiven. Moreover, in comparison with the same in terms of photo and video filming, the subject looks more interesting. But still, he has a couple of shortcomings that are difficult to forgive. Most disappointing is the rather poor performance in games, as well as the extremely low sound quality and speaker volume (when operating in system mode). Otherwise, this is a fairly solid smartphone with a good (after manual setting) HD + display and great sound on the analog audio output.
Minuses:
- when tapping on the body, the physical keys rattle;
- no fingerprint reader (some direct competitors have);
- the only speaker with low sound quality when operating in system mode;
- performance in games;
- problems with focusing on close objects (conventionally in macro mode)
- problems with focusing in the dark (may be fixed in new firmware).
Pros:
- high torsional rigidity of the body;
- three separate connectors for pair installation SIM cards and microSD media;
- high contrast of the display for its class;
- color quality of the display after manual adjustment of the color temperature;
- high signal level at the analog audio output;
high quality sound at analog audio output;
- relatively fast battery charging.

The Huawei Y5 (2017) doesn't cheat. Before us is a budget model. It is immediately felt when you take it in your hands. Firstly, the phone is a little fat compared to the more expensive ones. Secondly, its body is made of plastic, while there is no sense of density. And although the back cover does not flex, there is a suspicion that it should. Plastic feels like very cheap phones.

Another point is also striking: a rather large bezel around the display, especially in view of modern fashion.

The front panel is covered with glass. We had a white and bronze smartphone - the color combination is also quite controversial. Against a white background, three eyes stand out very well, which are located a little chaotically and not very aligned.

The back side, one would like to call it a lid, since the body is a "plastic" tray, where all the filling is placed, also has no accents. The camera eye stands out against the general background only in blackness. All faces are rounded.

In general, the smartphone leaves a double impression. On the one hand, it's the budget, but it still feels a lot better than the Y3 (2017), or some of the third-tier brands that have fallen into our hands.

If price positioning would allow and Y5 (2017) to be dressed in metal, then the impression of the device would be much better. Probably, not the most successful combination of colors played a role. In other colors, at least in the photos, the device looks more attractive

Connectors and controls

The front panel of the Huawei Y5 (2017) has no hardware buttons. They are made virtual and take up part of the usable display area.

Above the screen there is an earpiece, camera and sensor windows. It also houses a full LED flash.

A camera and a dual LED flash are found on the back of the smartphone, which already makes the device stand out from its classmates.

On the right side there is a screen on / off button, volume control.

The left sidewall carries a "smart" button. This is an additional control in the Y5 2017 settings called Easy Key.

Three actions can be assigned to this button: single press, double press and press and hold. In the settings there is a choice: shooting with a camera, taking a screenshot, starting a voice recorder, turning on a flashlight. You can also select any of the applications that will be launched by the button. We chose to take a screenshot.

At the top there is a 3.5mm audio jack.

The bottom one houses microUSB and stereo speakers.

Huawei Y5 (2017) has a removable cover. It can be pryed off at the bottom of the right side panel. The cover is removed easily enough. Put on too. The smartphone battery is not removable.

Interestingly, SIM cards of different formats are used nano and micro. That is, it will not be so easy to change them. Slot for microSD cards separate.

And now a video on how to install SIM cards in Huawei Y5 (2017):

Case for Huawei Y5 (2017)

It is easy to buy a cover or cover for Huawei Y5 (2017). All common types can be found.

Such a leather book Y5 (2017) will cost about 700 rubles.

A hard bumper can be purchased for 500-600 rubles. In general, the cost of the covers matches the inexpensive device.

Screen Huawei Y5 (2017)

Display Huawei Y5 (2017) has a diagonal of 5 inches. The screen resolution is 720x1280 pixels, their density, thus, reaches 294 ppi. The IPS matrix is declared. However, its quality is clearly not the highest.

At the height of the screen, in our opinion, only clarity. Despite the fact that the IPS matrix is declared, a slight red-violet tint is clearly visible on the display against a white background, especially at low brightness. In general, the screen bears little resemblance to what you might expect from an IPS matrix.

Huawei Y5 (2017) does not have a display "enhancer", although it would come in handy here. User can adjust brightness and adjust color temperature.

Let's look at the results of objective tests. The brightness of white in a smartphone is 372 cd / m2, and black - 0.21 cd / m2. The contrast is thus 1771: 1. The device lacks brightness, especially in the bright sun, however, due to the highest contrast, the display does not fade in light, although colors are lost.

The color temperature graph is fairly flat and, more interestingly, it is slightly overestimated compared to the 6500K reference. The temperature is in the range of 6800-7000K. The colors are very close to natural.

Color gamut screen Huawei The Y5 (2017) turned out to be smaller than the sRGB range, which is a rather rare case for budget smartphones today.

The gamma curves of Huawei Y2 are lower than the reference, while the dependence graph has deviations. The shades will be darker.

The screen, as expected, supports 5 touches.

Huawei Y5 (2017) received two cameras. The resolution of the main camera is 8 megapixels, and the front camera is 5 megapixels. Both can record Full HD videos. The front camera also has a flash, just like the main one. The device seems to immediately begs for ideal tools for selfies ... however, there are nuances. More about them later.

The camera interface of Huawei Y5 (2017) is practically no different from that in other devices of the company. On the main screen there is a shutter button, a preview of filters, a window for viewing the taken picture. Also, on the other hand, there are buttons for controlling the flash, switching between cameras and calling the menu.

On the menu you can see some fast functions, for example, setting watermarks or geotags.

The camera has only three main types of shooting: photo, video and time lapse. The latter allows you to shoot 3-5 seconds of video, from which an animated "gif" will be made, or the best pictures will be selected. There is not even a "decoration" here that allows you to touch up the skin tone, not to mention the slow shutter speed with which you can play with the light painting, like in the Honor 6C.

Fortunately, all the camera settings are in place: you can choose white balance, light sensitivity, turn on the smile detector, face detection, determine which button to shoot, etc.

The camcorder has fewer settings. You can turn on stabilization, geotags and turn off the sound.

The front camera interface is exactly the same. There is even a flash control button in place - after all, this smartphone has a front-facing camera. The menu has slightly fewer options for shooting with a camera. There is a mirror.

The positioning of the device as a smartphone for selfies remains dubious. There are also only three shots here: photo, video and time lapse. There is no jewelry, let alone makeup.

You can find the perfect selfie in the settings, but Huawei has had this feature for a couple of years, but more modern ones would not interfere with a smartphone with a flash. In general, the settings for the front camera are the same as for the main one.

The number of camcorder settings is also small.

The main camera of Huawei Y5 (2017) has a maximum resolution of 8 megapixels.

The camera is good at "colors", but with focus and exposure selection it does not always succeed perfectly.

The front camera has no more than 5 megapixels.

The front camera shoots no worse than the main one, and with closely spaced objects it does better at all. It will be good for a selfie.

The main camera of Huawei Y5 (2017) records Full HD video.

The video quality is good.

The front camera is also able to handle Full HD.

Her videos are also good.

Characteristics Huawei Y5 2017

Huawei Y5 (2017) is a budget device. We do not expect any surprises in terms of performance.

  • Huawei official website.
  • Manual for Huawei Y5 (2017).
  • Firmware for Huawei Y5 (2017).

Huawei Y5 (2017), as expected, has a 4-core processor. The architecture used is Cortex-A53, which is quite good in comparison with Huawei Y3 (2017), in one of the variants of which a chip with Cortex-A7 was installed. Graphics - mid-level processor of the last generation.

The platform should be pulled 2 GB in games random access memory... However, we won't be surprised if we have to deal with slowdown. However, in ordinary tasks, the smartphone did not cause any complaints. The smartphone has 16 GB of memory, of which about 10 are available to the user. The volume can be called acceptable. In this segment, only 8 GB are often given.

The device supports 4G, but the network bandwidth is no more than 150 Mbps. No Y5 and new Bluetooth versions and Wi-Fi. While the lack of support for 802.11ac cannot be called critical with Wi-FI, support for only Bluetooth 4.0 can be an unpleasant surprise in some cases.

They are certainly two different-format SIM-cards. For example, having gone abroad, it will no longer be possible to change the main card from the one purchased for the sake of cheap Internet.

The display is formally good specs, but in reality it disappoints us. Cameras also leave a lot to be desired.

The 3000 mAh battery in theory should provide good autonomy, but in the case of the Huawei Y5 (2017), everything is better checked in practice.

Performance testing

As a rival for Huawei Y5 (2017), we chose the youngest of Samsung Galaxy J. has a lot of the same stuffing, so the difference in the tests will be determined different versions Android OS and quality Samsung processors and MediaTek. The advantage is on the side of the latter, as it has a more powerful GPU.

In an integrated Huawei test Y5 (2017) turned out faster than Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017). Probably due to the graphics.

In JetStream, which simulates a browser load, 3D is not so important, but the OS is important: here Samsung is faster.

Graphics tests clearly show that 2 cores and 650 MHz Mali-T720MP2 are faster than 1 core and 600 MHz Mali-T720.

Huawei Y5 (2017) in Antutu

Based on the results of previous tests, it is clear why the Huawey Y5 (2017) turns out to be better than its rival in AnTuTu.

Huawey Y5 (2017) and Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) showed the same relative result after the autonomy test. There are 83% of the battery left. However, at the same time, the battery of Huawei is 700 mAh more than that of Samsung. The difference can be easily explained: the Exynos chip is made using a 14-nm process technology, while MediaTek's is manufactured using a 28-nm process. The thinner the technology, the higher the energy efficiency. However, in terms of autonomy due to a more capacious battery, Huawei has parity between rivals.

Graphics eat up the most battery. However, we also note the rather high consumption in standby mode when reading.

The phone manager is responsible for energy saving in Huawei Y5 (2017). There are three modes to choose from. For each of them, you can see a preliminary estimate of the running time. Modes are not configurable. But you can enable the function of closing power-consuming applications and configure an exception if you want mail or instant messenger to constantly hang in the background.

Games for Huawei Y5 (2017)

Huawei Y5 (2017) overtook in Galaxy tests J3 (2017), which hasn't let us down in games before. We expect from him no worse results in games.

  • Riptide GP2: excellent, everything flies;

  • Asphalt 7: excellent, everything flies;

  • Asphalt 8: excellent, everything flies;

  • Modern combat 5: excellent, everything flies;

  • Dead trigger: excellent, everything flies;

  • Dead trigger 2: excellent, everything flies;

  • Real Racing 3: excellent, everything flies;

  • Need For Speed: No Limits: excellent, everything flies;

  • Shadowgun: Dead Zone: excellent, everything flies;
  • Frontline Commando: Normandy: excellent, everything flies;

  • Frontline commando 2: excellent, everything flies;
  • Eternity warriors 2: excellent, everything flies;

  • Plants vs Zombies 2: excellent, everything flies;

  • Dead target: excellent, everything flies;

  • Injustice: excellent, everything flies;

  • Injustice 2: excellent, everything flies;

As expected, the games are doing well despite the mid-range platform. It's time to write something more resource-intensive, comrades igrodely

ON

Huawei Y5 (2017) received Android 6.0 with a proprietary EMUI 4.1 interface. We are sure that the device will not receive either Android 7.0 or a newer interface.

EMUI 4.1 doesn't have an app menu yet. In the fifth version, it is already possible to choose the appearance of the working screen.

Here, you can only set up a simple mode, which will remove icons, effects and leave only the basic functions.

Applications are distributed across screens and placed in folders. There is nothing new in the google folder.

The Tools folder contains the same applications described more than once. Surprisingly, our test sample did without Yandex applications, Opera browser, Booking. This is probably a feature of the test firmware. We do not exclude that they are in retail copies.

But there is HiCare with a heart on its icon. If you thought it was a fitness tracker, you were wrong. HiCare is a Huawei app for monitoring user feedback, combined with a forum club and support service.

HiGame is a game store with its own statistics and separate registration, tied to account Huawei. In fact, a branded analogue of Play Games.

You will also need a Huawei account for HiCloud - cloud storage that you can sync your company phones with.

Output

Huawei Y5 (2017) - budget smartphone in the full sense of the word. It turned out better than Y3 (2017), but it is difficult to distinguish it from competitors in the segment, including from little-known brands. If the smartphone had a metal body or a higher-quality main camera, then its chances of consumer love would be higher.

The front camera of the device is configured for shooting close objects and has good color rendering. An inexpensive smartphone will be good for selfies.

We were pleased with the victory in the tests. However, the rival was a device that was more expensive, but the weakest within its line, while Huawei Y5 (2017) takes a higher place in the hierarchy among its brothers.

In the meantime, it remains to attract attention with price and brand. Perhaps there is more trust in Huawei than in lesser known companies.

Price Huawei Y5 (2017)

You can buy Huawei Y5 (2017) 8,000 rubles. Its rival in the Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) test is offered for 13,000 rubles. Therefore, looking for a competitor from a Korean company, we will still look for something cheaper.

Last year's will cost 9,000 rubles. The smartphone has a display with a resolution of 960x540, 1.5 GB of RAM and an 8 GB drive, a 2600 mAh battery.

Alcatel Shine Lite costs the same 8,000 rubles. Here we get the same display as the Y5 (2017), 13 and 5 megapixel cameras, which only record 720p video, exactly the same hardware platform and a 2,460 mAh battery.

ZTE Blade A510 costs 7,000 rubles. The smartphone has the same screen, 13- and 5-megapixel cameras, albeit a 4-core chip with a frequency of only 1 GHz, a gigabyte of RAM and only 8 GB of storage, not to mention a 2200 mAh battery.

pros:

  • acceptable design;
  • 2 GB of RAM;
  • 16 GB storage;
  • front camera for selfies;
  • good performance.

Minuses:

  • different SIM formats;
  • not very high quality display;
  • the main camera is rather weak.

The device, frankly, surprise with appearance not at all capable, if you do not take into account 4 cameras: 2 in front and 2 in the back. The device cannot surprise with anything else. The colors of the case are standard, the case itself is metal. The fingerprint scanner is round and located on the back of the device. The cameras are displaced to the side, they practically do not protrude from the body, which is an undoubted advantage of the body. If the smartphone lies on the back, then it practically does not swing. We have no complaints about ergonomics, the device is convenient to use, it does not try to jump out of the hands. If you look at the device from the front, it is generally difficult to determine which model it is. If it were not for the Huawei inscription at the bottom, it would be difficult even to calculate the company. The kit includes a memory unit that does not provide fast charging, standard microUSB cable and smartphone. As you can see, even the kit is not surprising.

Shell

The smartphone received the latest Android 8 OS, but with a shell from Huawei EMUI. Nice interface, and most importantly, it works well and quickly, does not lag. The settings menu is quite rich. You can even choose the screen resolution by lowering it to HD +. It is possible to adjust the color temperature of the screen, as well as gesture control. The on-screen buttons can be turned off altogether and the smartphone can be completely switched to gestures, which is very cool, since smartphones from other companies will not be able to provide you with such a wide range of options for controlling the device. You can also note the "hype" function of face recognition, which works very well, despite the class of the device.

Specifications

  • CPU

    HiSilicon Kirin 659 4x 2.36 GHz ARM Cortex-A53, 4x 1.7 GHz ARM Cortex-A53

  • Video processor

As usual, the device from Huawei received its own processor - an 8-core HiSilicon Kirin 659 (4x 2.36 GHz ARM Cortex-A53, 4x 1.7 GHz ARM Cortex-A53). This processor Huawei "inserts" into almost all of its inexpensive smartphones. To help him this time, they put the Mali-T830 MP2 video processor, which is not enough stars from the sky.

Memory

The built-in memory is enough - 32 GB, although many would like more. These people can purchase a memory card up to 256 GB, while they do not have to sacrifice a sim card for this, this model provides for the use of two nanosim and a memory card at the same time. Well, the RAM is 3 GB, which is also very good.

Connection

The only thing we are extremely disappointed with is the lack of NFC. It’s in vain. But those who do not consider this to be a problem will be happy with both the reception of the network and the operation of the navigation. Communication in the device works well.

Look
updated when new information becomes available and published after careful review

As many experts admit, Huawei Y9 is perhaps one of the most interesting representatives of the “Y” model line in our online store. Despite the fact that it was initially positioned as a state employee, the smartphone was able to raise the bar of its class high due to its excellent technical characteristics.

Durable all-in-one

Smartphone Huawei Y9 is made in a laconic metal case in a classic design. The gadget gives the impression of a monolithic and reliable device - all elements are tightly fitted to each other, the camera lenses only slightly protrude beyond back cover, and the screen is protected by durable glass, which is not afraid of cracks and scratches.

The matte back cover not only prevents smudges on the surface of the case, but also creates a pleasant tactile sensation. The rather large device feels great in the hand due to the small thickness of only 7.9 mm and the weight of 170 grams.

Great picture even in bright sun

Huawei Y9 received a large 5.93-inch IPS display with an aspect ratio of 18: 9, which occupies almost 76.7% of the front panel surface. At the expense of high level brightness up to 376 nits, the picture remains readable even in direct light. Rich and contrasting colors, high detail - excellent screen characteristics were achieved due to the combination of high Full resolution HD + and high pixel density at 407 ppi.

The smartphone will delight those who need an impressive display without unnecessary details. Given the lack of frames and unnecessary cutouts, a large amount of information is placed on the screen, which is critical when watching widescreen videos, working with mobile sites and launching games with an abundance of on-screen interfaces.

The power of 8 cores

Huawei Y9 has strong performance among the mid-range price category... The manufacturer did not stint and installed on board the gadget a powerful 8-core HiSilicon Kirin 659 processor with a frequency of 2.36 GHz and a Mali-T830 MP2 graphics accelerator.

The most graphically advanced modern games like World Of Tanks, PUBG and Mortal kombat X starts without freezing or lags on high settings.

Do you need to browse forums or work with applications while playing? With this, there will be no problems thanks to a solid supply of RAM of 3 GB, which ensures stable multitasking performance.

The built-in storage is rated at 32 GB, but the storage capacity can be increased up to 8 times with a memory card up to 256 GB.

To ensure uninterrupted communication, the smartphone is equipped with slots for two SIM cards. That being said, the impressive data transfer rate is worth noting. While most mid-budget smartphones are overclocked to 150 Mbps, the Huawei Y9 supports full 4G at speeds up to 301 Mbps.

4 cameras for the best shots

By quality Huawei cameras Y9 may well compete not only with top-end flagships, but also with professional DSLRs. The main camera received a dual lens of 13 and 2 MP with an aperture of f / 2.2. The sensitive sensor allows you to create excellent detailed images not only during the day, but also in low light conditions, even despite the lack of optical stabilization.

The front photo module is also made double - for 8 and 2 MP. The camera not only blurs the background in style for portraits, but also absorbs more light. This allows you to experiment with depth of field while taking selfies, creating one spectacular shot after another.

In addition, the front camera is able to recognize the face of its owner, which is used to unlock the smartphone.

4 days on a single charge

We recommend buying the Huawei Y9 for those who are not used to depending on an outlet. The battery with an impressive 4000 mAh capacity and the ability to optimize power consumption allows you to use the device for 2 days in the most active modes. Turn down the brightness a little, turn off 4G - and the smartphone indicator will signal the need to recharge only after 4 days!

The Huawei Y5 II smartphone was announced in mid-April 2016. This device is a mid-range model in the youngest line of the Chinese manufacturer. The gadget has a nice design for its class, and also has everything you need for a full acquaintance with operating system Android.

Appearance and ergonomics

Interestingly, the case of the U5 II, although made of plastic, is very reminiscent of metal. There is an aluminum frame around the entire perimeter, making the device even more stylish. The speakers are located on the bottom edge, reminiscent of the iPhone. At the bottom of the screen are virtual buttons for navigation. On the back side, in addition to the enlarged camera eye and flash, there is a corporate logo. Rounded body edges maximize ergonomics. And it is really pleasant to hold the device in hand, even for a long time. Dimensions Y5 II: height - 144 m, width - 72 mm, thickness - 8.9 mm, weight - 135 g. The smartphone is very compact, it is convenient to carry it with you in your pocket. Body colors: black, gold, white, blue and pink.

Display

Huawei U5 II is equipped with a 5-inch display with a very good resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels (HD) for its level. Thanks to the IPS matrix, the screen got decent viewing angles. The display is covered with ordinary glass, on which fingerprints actively remain. There is no oleophobic coating here. At the same time, the picture is surprisingly pleasant and bright.

Iron and performance

The case with the processor in the Huawei Y5 II is as follows. The 3G version got the somewhat outdated MediaTek MT6582 chip. But the modification with support for 4G networks has a 64-bit processor MediaTek MT6735 s maximum frequency 1300 MHz and four cores. In terms of performance, the devices are almost identical. The only major difference is that in the 4G version there is a more productive 3D accelerator Mali-T720, which favorably affects the rendering of effects in many games. In the AnTuTu test, both models gain 22,000-23,000 points. The Y5 II operates on the basis of the Android 5.1 OS with the preinstalled EMUI 3.1 Lite shell. The amount of memory here is minimal - 1 GB of RAM and only 8 GB of storage memory. The user can independently expand the storage up to 64 GB using microSD cards.

Communication and sound

The multimedia speaker in the Huawei Y5 II is relatively loud, but without even a hint of surround sound. The situation with the sound in the headphones is more interesting, but here the quality is far from perfect. And it will be possible to talk without problems, since the voices of the user and the interlocutor are heard well. As noted, there is a version with support for 4G and slower networks. Model U5 II with 3G cannot work with high-speed LTE networks... And from the wireless interfaces there is Bluetooth 4.0, as well as Wi-Fi (2400 MHz).

Camera

Huawei Y5 II has at its disposal an 8-megapixel camera with an advanced 2.0 aperture and dual flash. But in fact, the quality of the picture leaves much to be desired. Almost all photographs come out strongly overexposed. But the noises appear already at the slightest absence of a bright sun. With a properly working autofocus, you can do a good job of capturing objects close to the camera. But only macro photography is able to please the user. It is noteworthy that the front 2-megapixel camera is equipped with a separate flash. Therefore, the simplest selfies can be taken even at night.

conclusions

Huawei's budget Y5 II smartphone honestly fulfills its $ 120 price tag. There are no obvious features in it, but the whole device turned out to be quite balanced. If there is a desire to become the owner of an ordinary smartphone with a basic set of functions, then the Huawei Y5 II will be an excellent option.

Pros:

  • Nice design.
  • Bright display.
  • Nice value.
  • Modern OS.

Minuses:

  • The main camera is frankly weak.
  • Bad external speaker.
