Latest android version for galaxy s4. Installing official firmware on Samsung Galaxy S4 I9500. Wi-Fi connection problems

For those who have just become a beginner or are not an expert in the vast world of Android and are not particularly familiar with the concept of how - root android, and also why it is needed, what can be done after obtaining Root rights or how to get rid of them if they are no longer needed, all this can be found in the detailed article -!

Primarily!

There are no "left" links or unnecessary actions in this article! If you really need Root Rights, then read carefully and follow step by step, this is a guarantee that you will do everything right! This article on obtaining Root rights is divided into two parts: The first part is Prerequisites and conditions, the second part is Instruction how to get root rights using the received files and programs. If, in the process of obtaining root rights, Android constantly reboots or in the process of eternal loading (it happens extremely rarely, but still), then it’s worth it. Now let's start getting Root rights!

Android manufacturers sometimes release new firmware on which it is not possible to get Root using one of the suggested methods, if there are other alternative methods in the article, try them. Doesn't work anyway? Specify the Android version and firmware version in the comments (do not write malicious shitty comments, you will not put this on yourself or others). Android freezes (does not load), read and re-read from the very FIRST PARAGRAPH, all the necessary links are present in the article!

Do you have any questions?

Still have questions or can't get root access to your Android? Leave comments about what worked for you, what didn't work, or what you did differently.

The South Korean company Samsung has been on the telecommunications equipment market for a long time. Since the thirties of the last century. During this time, she managed to become one of the world's leading companies in the production of smartphones, tablets and various household appliances. Today, Samsung is on a par with such giants as Microsoft and Apple. Sales of Samsung smartphones rose steadily to the top spot among other companies, overtaking Apple and Huawei.

The flagships of the Galaxy S line significantly bypass the sales of the Apple iPhone. It is not surprising, because Samsung smartphones have the highest performance, modern attractive design, support for a huge number of applications and millions of users around the world. Do you want to follow all the news about existing and details about new Samsung devices? Then we are glad to welcome you on our website. Here you will find everything that is most interesting for your smartphone: from useful applications to stylish accessories, and you will always be up to date with the most interesting things from the world of Samsung gadgets.

And other flagships by Samsung were released very quickly - in early 2015. I never tire of repeating that this is one of the advantages of buying a smartphone from a well-known major manufacturer, and not “exactly the same unknown Chinese, but twice as cheap.” Moreover, consider the relevance of the Galaxy S4 - this is the phone of 2013! And Samsung even intends to upgrade the Galaxy Note II to Android 5.0! This is completely “out of the way” - can you name at least one “Chinese” who is supported 2.5 years after graduation?

In short, the Android 5.0 firmware for my favorite Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 (and even in the Black Edition!) did not arrive in the most efficient way - it was released earlier for the Exynos version of the GT-I9500. And then I had to sew it up myself. But everything went quickly and without any complications. Now I'm sharing how.

Here is a short guide on how to flash Android 5.0 on Galaxy S4:

  1. and make sure that the smartphone has enough charge;
  2. enter the smartphone into Download Mode (simultaneously pressing the "off" + "volume down" + "home button" keys), then press "Volume up";
  3. connect the USB cable to the device;
  4. in the Odin application on your computer, select files from the archive with the firmware:
    • for the PIT column - a file with *.pit extension;
    • for PDA - a file whose name contains the word CODE, if there is none, then you should know that this is the heaviest file in the archive;
    • for CSC - a file with the word CSC in its name;
    • for Phone - a file containing MODEM in the name;
    • Note. If the files for the CSC, Phone and PIT graphs are not in the archive with the firmware, then we sew using the single file method only, i.e. indicate the location of the firmware in the PDA column, and leave the rest of the lines empty.
  5. make sure that the checkboxes in Odin are checked in the items "Auto Reboot" and "F. reset time". If the location of the *.pit file was specified, then the “Re-Partition” checkbox will be set automatically;
  6. press the "Start" button and watch how the firmware process takes place. The phone may reboot several times during installation and in no case should you unplug the cable from it until the Odin log shows “All threads completed” or the green information window with the words “PASS!” lights up.

The firmware update process traditionally takes several minutes (from 5 to 15) and if successful, you will be prompted to configure the smartphone according to your preferences. After that, you can get to work. If you have a question, then immediately go to the second section of this post - everything is described there.

There are not many changes in Android 5.0 on the Galaxy S4, as they are hidden by the TouchWIZ shell. It was not just launched on a new system, it was also redesigned. But in general, it offers exactly the same interface as before, hiding some of the innovations of the fifth version of the "robot". In the case of the Galaxy S4, Samsung's skin is a mix of bare Android 5.0.1 styling and the original TouchWIZ on the S4. Something like this.

All notifications are now displayed on the lock screen - this feature was transferred from pure Android 5 almost unchanged. The ability to launch the camera even on a smartphone locked with a pattern or password has also been added.

The list of recent apps in tabs was simply taken from the system itself, although the panel at the bottom with additional options is a clear "blotch" Samsung.

The notification panel is designed in the style of the mentioned Galaxy S5. Moreover, the changes partially overlap the innovations of Android 5.0. Notifications are also displayed, but the ability to "pull" the toolbar has been eliminated and the standard "Samsung" functionality has been left.

Other changes are less significant. Much remains "under the hood" - we will talk about this in detail. Of course, the standard applications have been redrawn.

The settings are also designed differently, but no more. There is nothing fundamentally new here. Moreover, the division into tabs, which was relevant for the Galaxy S4, was preserved, and a year later it was replaced by a grid of icons.

Many complain about glitches after installing Android 5.0 on Galaxy S4. On glitches, worse autonomy and brakes. From myself I can say that I have not noticed glitches yet, but slight delays in rendering the interface happen. Autonomy is still not worse. But in any case, if your smartphone is not working well after the update, I recommend resetting everything to factory settings. If this does not suit you, you can roll back the Galaxy S4 to Android 4.4.

How to return Android 4.4 to Galaxy S4

Very simple. I specifically highlighted this in a subsection so that it is noticeable. And so you can rollback Galaxy S4 to Android 4.4 in the following way:

  1. do step by step all the same as listed above for flashing to Android 5.0.

Yes, that's as simple as that. There is no difference, you just need to specify a different firmware file in Odin. If you still have questions - ask in the comments! And in general, leave your feedback about Android 5.0 for Galaxy S4!

Attention!

To install the official stock firmware on the Galaxy S4 and return the phone state ("Settings" > "About device" > "Properties" > "Device status") to "Official" after switching from custom firmware and thereby return the ability to receive updates over the air is enough follow the instructions provided.

Installation instructions

    Unzip the downloaded archive to a folder with Odin PC for convenience. The file in ".tar" or ".tar.md5" format must be left, but "SS_DL.dll" can be deleted.

    Perform a data reset on the device.
    To do this, go to the settings on the tab " Accounts» to the section « Archive and reset”, select the item “ Reset device” and press the button “ Delete everything". The phone will reboot.

    Run Odin PC as administrator.

    Put the device into download mode ( Download Mode).
    To do this, simultaneously hold down the Volume Down key, the Home button and the Power button. Then wait until the phone reboots and agree to the warning by pressing the Volume Up key.

    In this state, connect the smartphone to the computer. In Odin, the inscription " COM».

    Click on the button " AP» and select the TAR archive of the firmware.

    Items « Auto Reboot" and " F.Reset Time" must be activated, a " Re-Partition", if active - must be disabled.

    Click on the button " start". The firmware installation process will begin.

    At the end of the operation, if everything went well, the message “All threads completed. (succeed 1 / failed 0)". The phone must be rebooted manually by holding down the power button until the screen turns off. The initial boot of the device may take up to 5 minutes.
    ATTENTION!
    If the device does not boot for a long time or a data reset has not been done, it must be performed from the recovery.
    To do this, simultaneously hold down the Volume Up key, the Home button and the Power button. After downloading select " Wipe data/Factory reset", and then - " Reboot system now". If after these steps the device also freezes at boot, you need to reflash it again.

Enthusiasts like to compare new models with old ones, as well as with competitors. I was somewhat surprised by the myopia of this kind of comparison, since most reviewers believe that there are few differences from the Galaxy S3 and they all lie in technical parameters. In fact, there are many differences, and most of them are qualitative, not quantitative. Similar to Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0, the first thing that catches your eye on the S4 is the lack of twitching of the standard interface. So, Galaxy S4 is the first Samsung smartphone without brakes.

Apparently, the programmers who have been engaged in destructive activities at Samsung for many years have finally been kicked out. It's hardly a matter of increased power, although the performance of the S4 has grown very noticeably compared to the Galaxy S3. For example, the latest Android 4.1.2 update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 also noticeably revived the tablet, compared to the previous firmware, the user interface began to simply fly.

Although everywhere in the marketing materials they indicate that the Galaxy S4 has eight cores, only four work at the same time: at low load, 4 Cortex-A7 1.2GHz cores to save energy, and at high load, 4 Cortex-A15 1.6GHz cores. There is also a modern PowerVR SGX 544MP3 video accelerator on board, which is cooler than the iPhone5, if anyone cares.

Despite the larger screen compared to previous models and a more powerful processor, the battery life on a single charge is about the same - about a day with moderate use. Of course, heavy games like Real Racing 3 (which, by the way, runs almost perfectly) will drain the battery in a few hours, but still, in this mode, the Galaxy S4 discharges much more slowly than Sony devices, for example. This is due not only to the new, more economical processor, but also to the battery, whose capacity is 2600mAh. At the same time, the device remained thin and almost does not exceed its predecessor in size.

Another qualitative difference is the SuperAMOLED display. And the point is not even in FullHD resolution of 1080x1920, but in the fact that the display is surprisingly well calibrated. If our reviews do not show graphs of color rendering quality measurements, then most likely we were ashamed to post them, and the device seemed to be defective. Sometimes this happens in pre-sale copies, which are sometimes finished just before the start of sales. So, the Galaxy S4 struck with good color reproduction. Traditionally, in Samsung devices, I recommend the “Cinema” screen mode, in which the colors are closest to the sRGB standard.

The SuperAMOLED screen traditionally has a wide color gamut:

It is easy to see that the white balance is not significantly shifted towards cold tones, but in real images this is almost imperceptible. And here is the gamma curve as it should be:

The last time I remember this was on the Samsung Galaxy S2, and the colors do not look acidic. In the display settings there is also a “Professional photography” mode, in this mode the blue and green will be a little juicier, but the color reproduction is not as accurate due to the red channel:

However, in real photos you will not notice this. Compared to the Cinema mode, scenery will look brighter in this mode, but this is a matter of taste. By the way, the screen is more slippery and pleasant

Another thing that is very useful in everyday life is Adapt Sound. This is a sound equalizer that adapts to the characteristics of your hearing and your headphones. Instead of twisting the tops / bottoms, you take a test where you honestly answer whether you hear a signal or not. This exercise should be done once in a quiet room. As a result, the phone will apply these settings when listening to music, amplifying what you hear worse. Trust me, you won't get that sound with traditional EQ knobs, or it will take you a lot of time. The Adapt Sound feature is available in your phone's audio settings.

There is also an interesting thing in terms of sound - increasing the volume of the call if the phone is in a bag or pocket. Apparently, S4 determines this by the proximity sensor. Even if the sound does not reach you, you will surely feel the vibration - the vibrating alert on the S4 is harsh.

And also in terms of sound, a trifle, but nice - the alarm clock finally rings with increasing volume, reducing the likelihood of a heart attack in the morning. Of course, there are plenty of third-party alarm clocks that do the same, but it's strange that such a practical thing was not built into the system from the very beginning.

Of the other little things - the presence of an infrared port and a built-in universal application for controlling audio / video equipment from various manufacturers, not only Samsung. The application hangs in the status bar, and it is really convenient to use it if you are too lazy to look for the remote control.

S4 can be operated with gloves, as the new type of screen can feel you from a distance, appreciate it in winter. You definitely don’t want to type the text with gloves, because the accuracy of pressing is significantly reduced, but now it will be easier to answer the call and not freeze your hand. By the way, it seemed to me that the screen interacts better through leather gloves than through knitted ones, maybe they were thinner.

And another small improvement that makes the interface more convenient - when dragging icons around the desktop, a diagram of your screens is displayed below, where you can see which of them has free space.

But what I didn’t really like and still seems strange is the lack of a normal on-screen keyboard. Of course, what is on the S4 by default is much better than what was before - finally there is a row with numbers, like on tablet keyboards, but for some reason there are still no separate punctuation buttons. So far, I consider the paid Smart Keyboard Pro to be the most convenient.

Rooting a Galaxy S4 isn't difficult, as long as you don't mind losing your warranty and love to tinker with your phone.

Thank you for your attention.
