Huawei smart watch. Overview of smart watches Huawei Watch and their characteristics. Comparison with Apple Watch

Read the review of Huawei Watch smartwatch from the Chinese manufacturer on the Android Wear platform with an impeccable design, but a very high price.

Despite the fact that over the past two or three years, Huawei has released many beautiful high-spec smartphones that are in demand for the most part, the Chinese manufacturer is still trying to make its brand more recognizable outside of China.

The first attempts to enter the market of wrist devices turned out to be frankly a failure - to take the same TalkBand fitness bracelet. Therefore, we were pleasantly surprised when it turned out that the gadget, presented at the beginning of 2015, looks like a piece of jewelry on platforms.

However, a considerable amount of time has passed since the presentation, so the question is fair: does the Huawei Watch live up to all that advertising hype before the launch? We invite readers to read the article to the end to find out the answer to this question.

Huawei Watch design and build quality

"Stuffing" and battery life

Waterproof Huawei Watch is equipped with a Qualcomm processor with a frequency of 1.2 GHz and 512 MB of RAM. Like all Android Wear smartwatches, there is 4 GB of internal memory. Watch protection class - IP67. He tells us that the watch is not afraid of dust, and it can withstand immersion in water to a depth of 1 m for an hour.

Other indicators are not that particularly important: the processor frequency is not yet at the level to talk about high speed, and the amount of RAM does not affect the performance of smartwatches. Especially when it comes to the leisurely platform that Android Wear is at the moment.

According to official data, the Huawei battery can work for 1.5 days, here we agree - the figure is true. We use the device for a week, while the display brightness is set to maximum. In addition, all available connections on the watch are used, and during this time we recharged the device five times.

When charging, it is necessary that the contacts on the watch completely match the contacts on the charging unit. Because of this, it happens that the device is idle on the charging washer for nothing. Although, with a successful connection, charging is quite fast: the device is fully charged within one hour.

Huawei unveiled its first smart watch at MWC 2015 in Barcelona. Huawei has released electronic gadgets with “smart stuffing” before, but the watch is a real work of art. The Chinese manufacturer is primarily known for its line of affordable Android smartphones.

The very next 2016 at CES, Huawei introduced two new smartwatch options, Jewel and Elegant. Models have an elegant design and are focused on women. The internal mechanism is identical to the first watch presented in Barcelona. The Jewel watch is framed by a case made of precious stones. Exterior exquisite appearance is complemented by smart technology, blends seamlessly into full functionality with conciseness. But let's get back to the main watch model and take a closer look at what they are.

Like the original Apple Watch, the model is made of special sapphire crystal, which has a special surface that allows you to avoid scratches and dents. In addition, the body structure is made of stainless steel by cold forging.

The huawei smart watch classic color options available to the consumer are gold, silver and black. Each color comes with a special leather or metal strap.

When you first look at the watch, you can see that the device is made with great care and fine workmanship - the original stylish design of the huawei watch speaks for itself. The device includes:

  • 1.4-inch display with a resolution of 400 × 400;
  • case diameter 42 mm;
  • Qualcomm 1.2 GHz processor;
  • Wi-Fi Internet 802.11b;
  • sensors: accelerometer, gyroscope, heart rate, barometer;
  • SMS, email, instant messaging;
  • vibration; mp3 and wav in melody;
  • fast charging;
  • built-in microphone;
  • MP3 player;
  • colors: black, silver, rose gold;
  • black leather, steel bracelet;
  • photo viewing;
  • heart rate monitor;
  • voice dialing/commands;
  • non-removable lithium-ion battery 300 mAh;
  • memory 4 GB.

The model has the highest display resolution of any Android watch huawei watch. The text is very clear on the screen. These are the main standard components and thanks to them the high performance of the device is ensured. The metal bezel framing the case of the Huawei smart watch with additional textured finish delights with its appearance. Sparkling in the sun, it gives the watch the look of an expensive piece of jewelry.

While developing the design, it becomes clear that the company is striving to bring its products to the leading front ranks among smart watches, leaving behind the developments from Apple and Google.

In addition, there is a definite benefit to the screen having a similar display. Save a lot of energy and productivity increases. But, unfortunately, the Huawei model has drawbacks, for example, there is no light sensor and it becomes impossible to adjust the brightness of the display.

Performance

Since basically all huawei watches are released on the Android Wear platform, it is only natural that the Google Fit app is downloaded to the device. This program is included in the list of installed programs and performs the same set of functions as on any other device with an operating system from Google. But Huawei decided to go its own way and develop its Daily Tracking app.

The main functions are the same as in Google Fit, but the development is visually different. The app includes a pedometer, a calorie counter, and a travel timer. It would seem that all these functions are already available in applications from Google Fit, but, according to the company, the device itself determines the nature of the user's activity (unlike the above application), in particular, it can find out that the owner of the watch is currently running, walking or climbing On the stairs.

It is not entirely clear what this feature is useful for, but, nevertheless, thanks to the well-coordinated partnership between Huawei and Jawbone, the developed UP platform is synchronized with the clock. The running program allows you to choose a rich schedule and customize individual classes and workouts, which will be useful for users who do not have the latest fitness trackers on the UP platform.

Note. By default, Android Wear and huawei smart watch platforms have different activity metrics. The smart watch does not have a built-in GPS tracker, but it can be used as a personal trainer while jogging. It is not entirely clear why this feature is missing.

Like most similar models on the Android Wear platform, the huawei watch has a heart rate monitor. But, according to most users, this feature is absolutely useless. This is explained by the fact that the impact count sensor does not count accurately enough and at the same time you need to be absolutely calm. With a high working capacity of the heart, this function does not count correctly.

Internal mechanism

The huawei smart watch has a waterproof surface and is equipped with a 1.2GHz Qualcomm processor. The memory has a capacity of 4 GB and operational - 512 MB. As a protection class, it has - IP67, which means not only that the watch is not afraid of water (they can withstand immersion to a depth of 1 meter for half an hour), this applies to all devices running on the Android platform, but also dirt, dust and corrosion.

According to official data, the duration of the battery can work up to one and a half days without recharging. It really is. In addition, it has been estimated that the Huawei smart watch can work up to five days (using all connections) leaving the watch to charge for a short time (up to half an hour a day).

When placing the watch on the charging block, you need to carefully monitor that all contacts completely match each other. Otherwise, the device will sit on the charging washer for nothing. A fully connected watch charger will charge within an hour.

Huawei Watch smartwatch runs on Android Wear 1.3 OS. But you can synchronize the device and a smartphone or tablet at the same time if you have an application of the same name. You can download and install it from Google Play. Bluetooth pairing and connection will be faster and easier.

The watch was tested with Huawei Nexus 6P. The two-week period showed that both devices worked stably and never hung up or overloaded. It was comfortable and convenient to work.

Control

The clock is controlled via the touch screen. Right-left navigation activates the application menu. Three screen themes are installed in the settings: the first is the application itself, the second is built-in contacts from the address book of a synchronized smartphone or tablet, the third is voice control, as well as other functions (pedometer, calorie counter, alarm clock, sending SMS, and others), also available has a mechanical wheel. With its help, all applications are launched, the device is locked and unlocked.

If you touch the display surface of the Huawei smart watch with your finger and swipe from top to bottom, the notification menu will appear: the watch will show "All" or "Important alerts", the battery charge status will also be displayed here.

The second screen displays the Theater mode, here you can choose to turn off the screen. You can turn it on again using a metal wheel. Moving to the next window allows you to temporarily increase the display brightness to maximum.

The fourth window - "Settings" allows you to:

  • set brightness;
  • change the dial
  • set the font size;
  • configure Wi-Fi and Bluetooth;
  • gestures;
  • choose a mode;
  • set "Always active screen".

A special mobile application Google Wear smartphone allows you to install programs and make settings that support work with smart watches (WhatsApp VKontakte, Facebook). Support is not limited to social media. But, for example, customers of S7 Airlines and Aeroflot can also download special programs that allow them to book tickets. Applications can be chosen to taste, the main thing is to understand what exactly you need.

Vibration can be used as notifications. You can use this opportunity to get acquainted with the information in express mode, without having to take out the device once again.

Today in our review, Huawei Watch 2 Classic is a smart watch from the largest Chinese manufacturer. How are they different from the Sport and Sport 4g versions? From the article you will find out for whom the classic model of handheld devices from Huawei is more suitable.

Screen design and performance

The watch case is made of plastic with a stainless steel metal frame. It is slightly narrower than the Sport model, but the ultra-thin Huawei Watch 2 Classic cannot be called ultra-thin. For a narrow wrist, the gadget may be too massive. And also two protruding physical keys on the side will constantly touch the cuffs of the sleeves. The bezel is located on the front side. Unlike the Sport version, it is less bulky and does not show fingerprints.

Compared to the first generation Huawei Watch, this model has slightly lowered strap lugs for an ergonomic design and a tighter fit that is essential for accurate readings during workouts.

The strap is leather with a brand logo on the clasp, which gives the watch a more businesslike look compared to the Sport model. The Classic version looks quite appropriate not only for a run or in the gym, but also in the office. The lower part of the strap has a water-repellent coating. If desired, you can replace a worn strap, since there are a whole lot of them on the market and different colors.

The screen diagonal is 1.2 inches, the resolution is 390 by 390 pixels. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass and is scratch resistant. AMOLED matrix. There is an oleophobic coating and automatic brightness control. Due to the high resolution, the screen gives a very high-quality, clear, not pixelated picture. Information on the display is well read even under the rays of the sun.

Complete set and assembly

The package includes:

  • Huawei Watch 2 Classic;
  • network adapter;
  • USB cable;
  • warranty card;
  • instruction.

The watch comes with a charger. The connectors for it are located on the back side, next to the heart rate monitor sensors.

Watch functionality

The main difference between Huawei Watch 2 Classic Gray and the Sport 4G version is the lack of a SIM card slot, i.e. the gadget is not equipped with an LTE module. For the Russian market, such watches are supplied with the prefix leo bx9. The positive point in this case can only be considered a longer operating time due to energy savings. But it is worth noting that the price for Classic and Huawei Watch 2 Sport 4G is the same.

There are two buttons to the right of the screen. They are programmable. By default, the top button is to open the application menu, the bottom button is to start a sports workout. For example, you can launch an application for receiving messages or other functions most requested by the user from the button.

The touch screen responds to gestures. For example, a long press on the home screen opens downloaded watch faces that you can swipe left and right and select with a simple tap. You can expand the notification by swiping up on the screen. Swiping down can hide it or open access to quick settings. Swipe to the left - remove the notification, exit the menu or return to the home screen. Moving to the right opens the menu.

Thanks to a special application, the watch face can be chosen to your taste and changed according to your mood several times a day.

Huawei Smart Watch 2 Classic has a built-in speaker and microphone. So you can make and receive calls from the watch. There is no headphone jack. Need a wireless headset. In addition, the clock is quite convenient to use as a remote control for the player. With their help, you can switch tracks. The disadvantage is that it is not possible to change the volume of the music.

When you receive a notification (SMS, alarm, message from social networks), the watch vibrates.

Sports features

preinstalled application Huawei Wear designed for use during training. Including jogging, swimming, etc. The application interface is intuitive. Displays heart rate, distance traveled, fat burning, aerobic and anaerobic exercise. Compliance with the norms, the level of training efficiency are monitored.

The application allows you to use ready-made training programs in real time. The virtual trainer will tell you when to speed up, slow down, end the workout. The program of classes can be drawn up individually, based on your indicators. The watch shows the results of the workout, gives advice on recovery time after it.

Pulse measurement is carried out constantly, including during sports and during sleep. You can view a graph of your heart rate for six hours.

The route of a run or bike ride can be plotted on the map using GPS without using a smartphone. All statistics are automatically uploaded to the paired phone after the workout is completed.

Android Pay and contactless payment

Among other things, Watch 2 Classic is also a smart watch with NFC. The built-in chip and the Android Pay app allow you to pay for purchases with a flick of your wrist.

To configure, follow these steps:

  • the watch must be connected to a smartphone with Android OS (the presence of an NFC module on the phone is optional);
  • install the Android Pay application on the watch from the Google Market (if it was not installed automatically);
  • open the application on the watch and set up (enter the screen lock pin and add cards previously activated on the phone);

How to use?

  • NFC must be enabled;
  • open the Android Pay application on the watch (double-click on the bottom button) and select the desired card;
  • bring the watch to the contactless payment terminal and wait for the receipt.

In addition, the watch may ask you to enter a pin code, it depends on the terminal. It should also be borne in mind that not all cash registers are configured correctly for contactless payment acceptance. In this case, you will have to get a card.

For all this miracle, there is no need for an Internet connection! And if the card is activated on the watch, then the connection with the phone is also not needed.

Autonomy of work

The battery capacity is 420 mAh, there is a fast charging function. In half an hour, the battery is charged by half, in an hour - by 94%.

If the device is used solely as a watch (to check the time and view notifications), then it can work without recharging for about two days. Overnight, the loss of battery capacity will be 10%. During a workout with the heart rate monitor and navigator turned on, the battery is discharged by a quarter in an hour. Thus, the charge is enough for four hours of training.

In the power saving mode, only showing the time and working as a pedometer, the watch will last more than a dozen days. It is easy to switch between modes. If you notice that the battery is almost dead, and it is inconvenient or nowhere to recharge, you can always switch to economy mode.

Huawei Watch 2 Classic: user reviews

Most users note the high functionality of the gadget, the reviews left on the network are mostly positive. The disadvantages include the traditionally thick case for watches of this brand, some massiveness and the lack of LTE.

According to consumers, these smartwatches are not suitable for professional athletes, but are optimal for most users who lead an active lifestyle.

Athletes should pay attention to the Huawei Watch 2 Sport model. And for those who care about a non-trivial and striking design, Huawei Porsche Design is suitable.

Advantages and disadvantages

The advantages of this smart watch include its elegant appearance, which looks appropriate in any situation. Other pluses:

  • the presence of an NFC module;
  • premium manufacturing materials;
  • high resolution screen;
  • good moisture and dust resistance, scratch resistance;
  • sapphire protective glass;
  • the ability to replace the original strap.

Cons - it's a rather bulky and heavy case, as well as a high price. In retail and online stores, the cost of the device is 18-26 thousand rubles. Meanwhile, for example, Asus ZenWatch, which also belongs to the premium segment, costs almost 10 thousand rubles cheaper.

Comparison with Apple Watch

For a number of indicators, the Huawei Watch 2 Classic outperforms even the Apple Watch. So, this watch has the best dust and moisture protection, higher screen resolution, branded shockproof glass. The display is always on, allowing you to check the time without unlocking your device. Huawei has GPS - again unlike Apple. Allows you to track sleep and provides reports on depth and duration. Indicates low battery. Supports social networks. It has a barometer, a cellular module, a gyroscope, an activity detector, a vibrating alert - all these options are not available for Apple watches.

But in terms of screen size, Huawei is inferior to its competitor. Apple uses Force Touch (3D Touch) technology. In addition, Apple Watch tracks altitude, has a route tracker, and can be used to remotely control the camera. Huawei does not have these features.

conclusions

Smart watches Huawei Watch 2 Classic have a stylish design, but at the same time with a rather pronounced case thickness. Reliable moisture protection, but for swimming you need to take a watch with a higher class - 5 ATM. The touch screen for navigation is not the best solution for a device with a small display.

Regarding the lack of LTE. It depends on what kind of advantages the consumer expects from the device. Many are inspired by the ability to use communication without a smartphone - then, of course, the buyer does not understand why a version without 4G is needed. Someone sees the advantage in the fact that the watch can be charged once every two days, and here the presence of 4G turns into a minus, since with active mobile communication the device works noticeably less time. At the same time, do not forget that in most countries it is impossible to get a copy of the SIM card. That is, you need to either rearrange the SIM card back and forth, or start a second number, which entails an additional headache with call forwarding settings and additional costs for the second number.

At the same time, the gadget can be called one of the best in its class. This is an accessory that emphasizes the status of the owner. A respectable appearance is suitable not only for a sporty, casual or casual style, but also for a classic suit.

Inexpensive round watch in a metal case

Huawei is one of the latest leaders in the field of Android smartphones to enter the smartwatch market. The model with the uncomplicated name Huawei Watch was announced back in February 2015, at the Mobile World Congress 2015, but reached the store shelves only at the end of the year. And immediately got into a very competitive environment where you have to fight for the attention of consumers with the much cheaper Asus ZenWatch 2 and Moto 360 of the first generation - and at the same time you need to somehow attract the attention of wealthier consumers who are eyeing the Apple Watch or Moto 360 of the second generation. Quite naturally, Huawei decided to bet on design, equipping the novelty with an all-metal body and a round screen.

True, unlike Apple, Asus and Motorola, Huawei did not offer two screen sizes to choose from, limiting itself to a single 1.4 ″ option, but providing for various case and strap options.

At the moment, two models are available in the official Russian online store Huawei: with a silver metal case and a leather strap (for 30 thousand rubles) and with a black metal case and a metal block bracelet (38 thousand rubles).

In the international online store, the choice is much wider: there we can choose from six models. The cheapest (silver with a leather strap) costs $350, $400 will cost options with the same case, but metal silver bracelets (block or Milanese weaving).

The black version with a block bracelet (which is also in our store) costs $450 in the West. Finally, the most expensive are gilded models: with a leather strap (embossed on it imitates crocodile skin) - $700, and with a gilded block bracelet - $800.

As we can see, the price range is quite wide, but, on the other hand, even the most expensive Huawei Watch model is still much cheaper than the most expensive Apple Watch model (with a black block bracelet). What can we say about the Apple Watch Edition in gold alloy!

And yet, even those 30 thousand that the manufacturer asks in Russia for the cheapest version is a lot of money, so you need to understand how Huawei Watch is adequate to this amount.

Let's take a look at the specifications of the model we got to test.

Specifications Huawei Watch

  • SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, 4 cores @1.2 GHz

*according to the manufacturer

As you can see, Huawei watches are the heaviest, and the difference is huge (although the Apple Watch version we're comparing it to also has a steel case), and their screen has the highest resolution.

Significantly, with dimensions similar to the smaller second-generation Moto 360, the Huawei Watch has a slightly larger screen and higher resolution, as well as a tenth of a millimeter less thickness. Motorola does not indicate the mass, apparently, because variants with different cases and straps weigh differently.

Another significant point is that Huawei does not report moisture protection for its watches (unlike Motorola and Samsung). However, Apple watches also have no protection.

Equipment

The watch came to us without packaging, only the charger was included.

It is a round platform for the size of the watch case, on which four contacts are placed. The platform is magnetic, so it is enough to bring the watch to it with the back side - and they will be magnetized so that the contacts are aligned.

In the case of a very expensive watch, I would like to see wireless charging (like the Moto 360, Samsung Gear S2 or Apple Watch), but in terms of functionality, this solution is no worse. The charger is quite compact, so when transporting it will not take up much space.

Design

The first thought when looking at the watch is “How massive they are!”. Indeed, the watch is large, very heavy, clearly masculine (although Huawei actively uses top model Karlie Kloss in their advertising). Perhaps the options with leather straps give a different impression. But we have only seen a version with a metal block bracelet, and it seems like a really brutal men's accessory.

The watch makes such an impression due to the completely steel case, rather large steel hinges and the absence of any rounding of the edges. In addition to this, around the screen we see a bezel that rises about a millimeter above the level of the glass, so visually the watch case seems to be thicker than if this bezel were not there.

On the right side of the case there is a metal button that allows you to exit to the main menu (long press) or go to the watch face (short press). We also saw a button with similar functionality on Asus ZenWatch 2 - this is clearly the trend of the season.

On the back of the case, you can see the heart rate sensor and contacts for connecting the charger. It is significant that, unlike Asus ZenWatch 2, where the back surface is made of plastic (whereas the rest of the case is metal), Huawei Watch even has a metal back side, and the central zone on which the sensor is located is made of glass. Apparently, this is sapphire crystal - the Huawei Watch specifications indicate Sapphire crystal, but it is in the description of the case materials, and not in relation to the screen. What kind of glass protects the screen, the official specifications do not say. One thing is for sure: there is not an ounce of plastic here.

The block bracelet is quite traditional. It detaches quite easily - just press the two levers at the loops on both sides of the case, and the strap can be removed. The clasp of the bracelet is also typical. We press two buttons - and the bracelet is unfastened.

The traditional problem of block bracelets is the difficulty of fitting them to your arm. To reduce the girth of the bracelet, you need to pull out the blocks (sections). To do this, you need to fix the bracelet and, with a very large effort, with a thin awl or a thick needle, press on the knitting needle holding the specific block. It should come out from the back, and then it will be possible to disconnect the block. And it’s easier, of course, to contact the watch workshop. By the way, Apple implemented this process much more elegantly: each block has a button there, by clicking on which we can pull out the section. But the cost of this bracelet is more than the price of the entire Huawei Watch.

It makes no sense to talk about the ergonomics of Huawei Watch: if a metal bracelet seems comfortable to you, then there will be no problems here either. If not, then the answer is obvious. It's a matter of taste. And the design of the bracelet and case of Huawei Watch is not much different from the classic watch. However, before buying, it is worth considering that there are no options with silicone straps, so it will be problematic to play sports in this watch (and it is unlikely that you will want to, given the weight and thickness of the case).

Summarizing, we note the use of only "noble" materials (no plastic and silicone!), the classic look of men's watches, the absence of any decorative elements (except for the button, which still has a functional load).

Screen

The watch is equipped with a round color touch screen made using AMOLED technology. The screen resolution is 400 × 400, which, with a diagonal of 1.4″, gives an excellent dot density of 404 ppi. In addition, the big advantage of the screen is the absence of dead zones (recall that they are on all Motorola smartwatches). That is, the screen is completely round.

Aleksey Kudryavtsev, editor of the "Projectors and TV" section, conducted a detailed test of the screen. His expertise is below.

The front surface of the screen is made in the form of a glass plate with a mirror-smooth surface, resistant to scratches. There is a special oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating on the outer surface of the screen (effective, noticeably better than Google Nexus 7 (2013)), so fingerprints are removed much easier and appear at a slower rate than in the case of ordinary glass. Judging by the reflection of objects, the anti-glare properties of the screen are slightly worse than those of the Google Nexus 7 2013 screen. For clarity, here is a photo in which a white surface is reflected in the off screens:

The screen of the Huawei Watch is noticeably lighter (brightness in the photographs is 151 versus 109 for the Nexus 7). Note that there is a slightly bluish halo from bright objects reflected on the screen. There is no reflection doubling, which indicates that there is no air gap between the layers of the screen. When displaying a white field in full screen, the maximum value (5 on the scale) of brightness was 324 cd / m², the minimum (1 on the scale) - 47 cd / m². Given not the worst anti-glare properties, on a sunny day outdoors, the readability of the screen should remain at a more or less acceptable level. There is no automatic brightness control, which, given the high minimum brightness, is not very good, especially for a watch. Plots of brightness (vertical axis) versus time (horizontal axis) show some significant modulation:

There is also some visible flickering, but the screen is clearly not flickering over the entire area at the same time, but somehow in waves, so the flickering is still not very noticeable.

This screen uses an AMOLED matrix - an active matrix on organic light-emitting diodes. A full-color image is created using subpixels of three colors - red (R), green (G) and blue (B), while there are half as many blue subpixels (but they are larger in themselves), which is confirmed by a fragment of a microphoto:

For comparison, you can see the gallery of microphotographs of screens used in mobile technology.

The spectra are typical for OLED - the primary color areas are well separated and have the form of relatively narrow peaks:

Accordingly, the coverage is noticeably wider than sRGB, and there are no attempts to reduce it:

Note that on screens with a wide color gamut without proper color correction, normal images optimized for devices with sRGB screens look unnaturally saturated:

The color temperature of the white and gray fields is approximately 7000 K, and the deviation from the blackbody spectrum (ΔE) is 2.4 and 1.2 units, respectively. Color balance is acceptable. Black is just black from any angle. It is so black that the contrast parameter is simply not applicable in this case. When viewed perpendicularly, the uniformity of the white field is excellent. The screen has excellent viewing angles with a much smaller drop in brightness when viewed from an angle compared to LCD screens, but the white at the corners takes on a slight blue-green tint. In general, the screen quality can be considered quite high.

Huawei watch faces and branded apps

Huawei Watch runs on Android Wear version 1.3. Some time ago, that in version 1.4 there will be support for the speaker, which is in Huawei Watch. However, at the time of writing, the update for the watches under study was not yet available.

Against this background, it looks curious that LG has recalled the entire batch of watches, among the main features of which are the ability to make calls via LTE and talk directly through the watch, without a headset.

In general, on the one hand, there is every chance that this feature will appear in Huawei Watch for the first time. On the other hand, it is not known exactly when the software update will be released and whether it will actually be possible to use the speaker in the Huawei Watch.

We have repeatedly written about other features of Android Wear, including about the features of the OS on watches with a round screen and about working with the iPhone. So we refer you to past articles. Here we will talk about those moments that concern only Huawei watches: these are watch faces and Huawei applications.

So, Huawei offers 39 pre-installed watch faces, and 15 more can be downloaded for free. These 15 additional dials are very extravagant options, for everyone. It is problematic to see the time on them (see the screenshot below this paragraph on the right). A completely different matter is the main 39 dials. Among them are many stylish options that are perfect for Huawei watches.

Here are some of our favorite options.

As for the pre-installed Huawei applications, there are only three of them: "Pulse", "Load" and "Monitoring". "Pulse" launches a one-time measurement of the heart rate, "Loads" launches the countdown of the time of physical activity, and "Monitoring" contains information about your daily activity and the number of calories lost. In general, there is nothing unusual here.

In general, the set of pre-installed applications, of course, is more modest than, for example, Asus, but it is pleasing to have a large number of good watch faces.

Offline work

The battery life of the Huawei Watch is average, which is not surprising with a not very capacious 300 mAh battery. A day and a half - you can count on about this time of work with a constantly on screen. Or one and a half to two days if the screen is off.

Now there are watches that last longer - for example, Asus ZenWatch 2 or Apple Watch.

conclusions

We welcome another player in the Android Wear smartwatch market, but we note that the option turned out to be very controversial. The undoubted advantages of Huawei Watch include a round screen with a very high resolution and no dead zones, the use of high-quality case materials (steel, sapphire crystal), a relatively low cost in the version with a metal block bracelet.

But if we talk about price, then the key word here is “relatively”. Indeed, if we compare the price of Huawei Watch with a block bracelet and Apple Watch with a block bracelet, then Huawei watches will cost significantly less, more than twice. But this does not mean that this option in itself is cheap. And the bracelet here is still not as interesting as the Apple Watch.

If we compare Huawei Watch with Asus ZenWatch 2, then the picture will be different: at a significantly lower price, Asus ZenWatch 2 may be a more attractive option than Huawei Watch. You should also not discount the first generation Moto 360 and LG Watch Urbane. All these models can now be bought cheaper. True, we cannot say that we liked their design more than the design of Huawei Watch. But the appearance of Huawei Watch does not cause such enthusiasm - rather, calm approval. It's too casual and neutral. It seems that there is nothing to criticize for (except for the thickness and mass, but the thickness of the rest of the watches is not much better, and some people even like a lot of weight), however, there is no sharp desire to possess them.

Complicating the position of Huawei Watch in the Russian market is the absence of some alternative versions of straps - for example, a woven metal strap or a strap with leather a la crocodile. Still, a block bracelet is not a universal option at all, and the option with a smooth leather strap can hardly surprise the buyer, because other smartwatches have similar leather straps. In general, the sooner Huawei can introduce the full range of possible Huawei Watch options to the Russian market, the more optimistic the prospects for this device will be in Russia. But in future versions of Huawei watches, I would still like some unique feature, an undeniable trump card. For example, Asus ZenWatch 2 has a price, Samsung Gear S2 has an original control and an operating system made specifically for a round screen ... But what about Huawei Watch? The Apple Watch has a steel case with sapphire crystal, as well as metal bracelets, and many models have a round screen (including those without dead zones). So it turns out that the product seems to be worthy, but it has no serious competitive advantages.

Finally, we invite you to watch our video review of Huawei Watch, which clearly shows the design and features of the model.

Our video review of smart watches Huawei Watch can also be.

The edition of the Internet project "Be mobile" was the legendary smart watch Huawei Watch. Why "legendary"? Because they are made according to the patterns of watches of expensive brands. At least outwardly. The developers built a modern AMOLED display into a classic round stainless steel case. Well, the sapphire crystal covering the screen protects against any mechanical damage. A spectacular strap, leather or metal, complements the already stylish look. And everything would be fine, but the price of 30 thousand rubles is sobering and makes you study the filling in detail.

Despite Huawei's leadership position in the development of smartphones, the company has long hesitated to release its own smartwatches. However, in 2015, Huawei Watch was announced. The model went on sale at the end of the year. The developer did not focus on the economy option and presented a premium device.

The first smart watch from Huawei received an all-metal case, a round screen, a sapphire crystal resistant to mechanical damage, a high-performance Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chip, and dust and water protection. At the same time, they tried to make the appearance of the device as similar as possible to the design of expensive watches. Perhaps for this reason, Huawei Watch received a special iF Design Award from industrial design experts. By the way, the watch turned out really spectacular.

The watch comes in a stylish and very solid black cardboard box. Inside, on a soft substrate, they are located - Huawei Watch. It all looks nice and expensive. Actually, you give part of the price for the packaging and the effect of luxury.

In addition to the watch, the kit includes: a USB cable - microUSB, a power adapter for the mains, a cradle with magnets - it is used for charging.

Appearance

id="sub2">

Huawei Watch attracts attention from the first minutes. They are quite massive, but at the same time elegant and very charismatic. You take them in your hands and you feel that this is not some kind of plastic toy or a cheap bracelet, but a very expensive thing. This is largely the merit of designers who brought the appearance of smart watches closer to classic premium models. The decoration uses 316L stainless steel and sapphire crystal. The glass has a good oleophobic coating, dust and fingerprints appear extremely slowly, but they are almost invisible.

Huawei Watch really looks like an ordinary watch in a classic shape and size. Their diameter is 42 mm, thickness - a little more than 11 mm. In terms of size, the watch turned out to be universal. With a leather strap, they are perceived organically and simply, but with a metal one, they are rich and stylish. By the way, the weight of the watch with a metal bracelet is 134 grams. It's a lot, but you can get used to it. A kind of male version is obtained.

Almost the entire front of the device is occupied by a round display surrounded by a narrow frame with a beveled bevel. Top and bottom fastening for a bracelet, strap.

On the right is a single button. It is responsible for turning the device on and off, and also allows you to activate the menu.

The inner surface of the watch is also metal. Here you can also read basic information about the device: name, materials, water resistance data. You can also see four contacts for charging the device using a special magnetic charger. There is a black area in the center. This is where the heart rate sensor is located.

In Russia, Huawei Watch is sold in two versions: classic - a silver watch with a leather strap and active - a black or silver watch with a massive steel bracelet. Straps can be changed. They are attached to the body simply, but at the same time securely. If you decide to take the version of Huawei Watch with a metal strap, keep in mind that in order to adjust the length of the bracelet, you will need to remove the blocks using improvised tools or in a watch shop. In this respect, smart watches from Huawei are no different from classic mechanical watches with straps of this type.

Removing the metal strap is easy. It is enough to pick up the springs at the base of the clock with a fingernail, and now you can attach another one.

Screen

id="sub3">

The dial of Huawei Watch is a round AMOLED screen with a diagonal of 1.4 inches and a resolution of 400x400 pixels. It is covered with sapphire crystal and has a good oleophobic coating. There is an automatic brightness control, as well as manual, where you can select one of ten divisions of the backlight level. I settled on automatic brightness control, it works perfectly.

The screen impressions of Huawei smartwatches are mixed. On the one hand, it perfectly reproduces the picture. In the sun, information practically does not fade and is clearly visible. On the other hand, the bluish shade of white is annoying and not the greatest viewing angles. As soon as you deviate the dial from the normal, the image changes its saturation slightly. For this reason, dark dial options look better than light ones.

Hardware stuffing

id="sub4">

Huawei Watch is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 hardware platform with a 1.2 GHz processor, 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of internal memory for storing apps and watch faces, as well as other user information.

The device runs on Android Wear 1.3 operating system. Synchronization with a smartphone or tablet is possible only if there is an application of the same name. You can download it from the store. Connecting and pairing via Bluetooth is simple and fast.

A two-week test paired with showed the stability of the watch. During this time, they never hung or rebooted. The speed of work is comfortable, the interface is smooth.

In addition, Huawei Watch is equipped with Wi-Fi modules in version 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.1 LE. All of them worked smoothly and without problems.

The watch is compatible with Android and iOS devices.

Controls and functions

id="sub5">

The clock is controlled via the touch screen. Swipe from right to left activates the menu of installed applications. It has three screens. The first is the applications themselves. On the second - contacts from the address book of the linked smartphone. On the third - voice control and monitoring functions in the form of a pedometer, agenda, notes, alarm clock, sending SMS templates, etc. There is one mechanical button here. With its help, the device turns on, locks and unlocks, launches a menu of installed applications.

If you swipe down from the top of the screen, the notification panel will appear: the device will receive either "All" or "Important" notifications. The same window displays information about the battery charge.

On the second screen, you can select the "Theater" mode, which completely turns off the screen. You can turn it back on with the button. The next window allows you to temporarily increase the brightness to the maximum. On the fourth screen - "Settings": you can set the brightness, change the dial and font size, configure Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, enable gesture control, airplane mode and select "Always on screen".

Through the Google Wear mobile application on a smartphone, you can select and install programs that support smart watches, for example, clients of the WhatsApp messenger, the VKontakte social network, Facebook, airline customers, including S7 Airlines and Aeroflot. In general, there are applications, you just need to understand what you need.

Vibration is used as notifications and alerts. This allows you to get acquainted with the information in express mode without having to take out your smartphone. This is very convenient.

When the screen is active, you can say "OK Google", use voice search, as well as say the standard command, like "Show heart rate", "Write a letter", "Set alarm".

By default, the watch is connected to the Google Fit service client, which allows you to monitor physical activity indicators, including the distance traveled, heart rate, etc. In the application, you can start data synchronization with the cloud, set up a calendar, turn off unnecessary notifications or turn them off completely on your smartphone while it is synchronized with your smart watch. Wi-Fi synchronization allows you to exchange data between your smartphone and watch if they do not "see" each other via Bluetooth.

Battery life

id="sub6">

The smart watch uses a 300 mAh non-removable battery. A full charge of the battery lasts for one and a half to two days on average. The time depends on the setting of the individual functions. For example, if you turn on the automatic display mode when you bring your wrist to your head, the gadget will work for 1.5 days. If you use it without this function - 2 days.

The smart watch charges quickly enough: 40-45 minutes when connected to the contact network and the device can work. When the charger is connected to the computer's USB, the charging time is doubled.

The charger itself is very handy. With the help of magnets, it is tightly attached to the watch.

Results

id="sub7">

In general, Huawei Watch left an extremely positive impression. They really do a lot. First, they show the time. There is a choice of multiple dials. Secondly, they display information about phone calls, SMS, email, social networks. You do not need to take out your smartphone for this. Thirdly, they monitor their health through fitness apps. Fourth, you can control music from your smartphone remotely. Fifth, use additional applications, whether it be exchange rates, stocks, news, flight activity data, etc.

Separate words deserves appearance. Huawei Watch looks expensive, stylish and reliable. Watch models from other manufacturers look much simpler and cheaper. Among the serious competitors of this watch model, I can mention Moto 360, which cannot be officially bought in Russia yet, LG Watch Urbane, Samsung Gear S2 classic, Asus ZenWatch 2.

Of the obvious shortcomings, I would note a short battery life. But this parameter is “lame” for almost all models of smart watches. The second minus is the price. Huawei Watch competitors are cheaper. Not all of them look as good as Huawei smartwatches, but they are also made of steel and come with leather or metal straps.

Whether it's worth it is up to you to decide. Before buying, I strongly recommend to "play" with different gadgets in the store. After that, with peace of mind, you can make a choice.

Advantages:

  • Excellent build
  • Stylish design
  • Stainless steel case, sapphire crystal
  • The ability to attach any straps and bracelets for watches
  • Fast interface and stable applications

Flaws:

  • Short battery life
  • High price

In conclusion about the cost in official stores. On the day this test review was published, the Huawei Watch classic could be purchased at a price of from 27 990 rubles, version of Huawei Watch active - from 36 990 rubles.
