Xperia™ Companion is a software service that provides a set of tools and applications to work with a device connected to a computer. With Xperia™ Companion, you can do the following:

update the device software or reset its settings;
move content from device using Xperia™ Transfer;
save a backup copy of the content on your computer and restore it later;
synchronize media content (including photos, videos, music, and playlists) between your device and a computer;
view files on your device.

Xperia™ Companion requires an Internet-connected computer running one of the following operating systems:

Microsoft ® Windows ® 7 or later;
Mac OS ® X 10.11 or later.

Manage files using a computer

To transfer and manage files, connect your device to a Windows ® computer with a USB cable.

After connecting the devices, select the desired action: charging, transferring files, or using the device as a MIDI input. After selecting the connection mode File Transfer (MTP) the device will be detected by the computer. By default, the Charge only option is selected.

The Xperia™ Companion app allows you to access file system devices. If this application is not already installed, you will be prompted to do so when you connect your device to your computer.

USB connection modes

Two modes are provided USB connections.

Changing the USB connection mode

Connect the USB adapter to the device.
Pull down the status bar to open the notifications panel.
The notification indicates the current connection mode: Charging the device via USB or USB for file transfer.

Today Xperia Companion is supported by most smartphones. Initially, these were models released since the end of 2014, and to this day: Xperia series Z5, Xperia Z3 series, Z3+, Xperia M5 and M4 Aqua, Xperia C5 Ultra and C4, Xperia E4, E4g and E3. Now the application works with a large number smartphones and tablets. For other smartphones, PC Companion remains.
