Sony xperia z2 black review. Review and testing of the smartphone Sony Xperia Z2. The SIM card is used in mobile devices to store data that certifies the authenticity of mobile service subscribers

Sony continues to evolve its mobile business, focusing on integrating all of its best practices into one single top-of-the-line smartphone. The progenitor of the new Xperia Z line was more of a trial pen, but the Xperia Z1 was supposed to be the real embodiment of all the best features of the company. Nevertheless, the product turned out to be very controversial, as the expectations of some potential buyers turned out to be somewhat overestimated, and although the Xperia Z1 tried to meet them, it could not completely. However, the company continued to work actively, learning to work with new materials, a single design concept and software equipment. The result of this painstaking work is the Sony Xperia Z2 - the current flagship of the company, which is not only an improved version of the Xperia Z1 on all fronts, but in some aspects a completely new product. The launch of the device on the market was supposed to take place at the end of March, but, alas, this happened only in a few countries, while the global release was slightly delayed. In Russia, the phone will appear on the shelves in the first half of May at a price of 29,990 rubles, but it arrived for the test a little earlier, so let's move on to a closer acquaintance with the device.

Video review and unpacking

Design and equipment

As is usually the case with Sony smartphones, a non-commercial version of the device arrived for the test - the so-called demo sample for journalists, as close as possible in quality to serial samples. As you may have noticed in the unboxing above, we originally got the Xperia Z2 in white, but for the preparation of the review it was replaced with a more recent black sample in order to minimize possible risks and exclude inappropriate behavior in any use scenarios, be it excessive heating or instability. Someone will probably say that it was easier to get a Singaporean commercial sample, but it is not intended for sale in our country, it may differ in quality (from the earliest batches) and software (for example, it was with the Xperia Z Ultra phablet, which in Asia appeared earlier than all over the world and was sold there with a very crude and early software), so we waited for the official European model, which will appear on our sale.

Alas, the equipment of the demonstration device is somewhat different from that intended for implementation in our country. The box contains a 1.5 A EP850 charger, a connection and charging cable, simple in-ear headphones, and various instructions. The official kit for Russia will delight the buyer with a high-quality Sony MDR-NC31EM noise canceling headset. For other markets, a complete set is possible not only with it, but also with a magnetic charging dock - keep in mind the difference in the sets if you decide to buy a "gray" smartphone.

By design, we already have a typical Sony flagship. The Xperia Z's design ideas for OmniBalance, with full symmetry on all sides, continue to flourish here, but with some refinements that have been skimmed through the Xperia Z1 experience. Do not assume that the Z2 is no different from the Z1 in appearance and sensation - you just have to take both smartphones in hand to see how different they are. The Sony Xperia Z2 is slightly thinner and lighter than the Z1, but has a larger battery and is slightly longer. Feels in the hand, the new flagship is much closer to the classic Xperia Z with straight and sharp edges, that is, it is very different from the smoothed and streamlined Xperia Z1. The glass body and one-piece metal frame remained in place, but the frame received a soft-touch coating, which makes the smartphone a little more comfortable to use due to the reduction of sliding in the hand. Interestingly, the black Xperia Z2 has a purple coating in certain lighting conditions. Live it looks a little less impressive and catchy than in the photo.

The front and back panels finally lost their protective films (and acquired good oleophobic properties), which wear out very quickly and become unusable, which were not so easy to get rid of, which also threatened the loss of the Sony logos (and for some it is very important detail). Regardless, the Xperia Z2 remains as solid as its predecessors. Small scratches are not terrible for him, but accidental unsuccessful falls or deliberate harm will quickly affect the appearance of the glass case. Sony has foreseen this and prepared a proprietary flip case for the launch of the smartphone, which you could see in the preliminary review of the device. If you are worried about the safety of such a precious gadget, this case or any other cover is highly recommended for purchase. Although, of course, nothing prevents you from gluing the Xperia Z2 with any films, it certainly won't be worse for him. Protection from water and dust according to IP55 / 58 standards has not disappeared anywhere, which means that with the Z2 you can swim without fear in fresh water up to one and a half meters deep, but no more than 30 minutes, or wash it under the tap. The main thing is not to forget to dry the headphone hole without using a wired connection after bathing for about two hours.

The smartphone received a 5.2 "TRILUMINOS touchscreen display, made using IPS technology using the latest development of Live Color LED, which consists in adding particles of red and blue phosphorus to the backlight to expand the color gamut and the best color reproduction. -Reality, which saturates the image even more in photos and videos, but it can be used or not. If we discard all marketing terms and technological aspects, then we have just an excellent IPS-display with maximum viewing angles, acceptable inversion when tilting, lack of Sony has never had anything better for smartphones, you can safely forget about the screens of Xperia Z, Z1 and even Z Ultra and Z1 Compact. In addition, the display recognizes wet touches (typing in the rain was much more comfortable for me, than on Z and even more so on the ultra-sensitive screen Z Ultra, although heavy rainfall can cause involuntary triggering a wide variety of interface elements), supports operation with gloves and the use of a simple pencil, keys, paper clips for removing SIM-cards as a stylus.

Above the screen, there are traditional light and proximity sensors, a Sony logo, a front-facing 2.1-megapixel camera. The earpiece speaker, equipped with an LED notification indicator, is also a multimedia speaker, and is complemented by another multimedia speaker located under the screen. Together they form an excellent stereo pair, but the lower speaker sounds noticeably louder than the upper one, and when a call comes in, the sound comes from only one of them - the lower one. For listening to music instead of a small speaker, this option is excellent, but for notifying about calls and events, it is very controversial, since there is a great chance of missing something important. It is possible that this is a software feature and it will be fixed in the future (perhaps the programmers simply could not immediately teach the phone to switch the loud sound of the upper speaker when called to a quiet one for talking when the device was brought to the head. Both loudspeakers play on a call, but there is a separate one for conversations.

On the left side there is a magnetic connector for a dock or an adapter from microUSB to charging, a slot for a microSIM card, an MHL port (both under the cap). There you can also see the red emergency shutdown button. Below you can see the hole for the strap (Japanese fidelity to tradition). The lower end is equipped with a voice microphone hidden in three holes, the upper end is equipped with a noise canceling microphone during a call and video recording with stereo sound. There is also a 3.5 mm port for headphones. The bundled NC31EM noise canceling headphones for the Russian market, by the way, are poorly compatible with other devices (especially non-Sony ones), since they use a 5-pin connector that supports the unique digital noise canceling function first implemented in the Xperia Z2. That is, the noise is damped not only by the headphones themselves with microphones, but also by the phone itself, which works with them in conjunction. It is the same with a separate STM10 stereo microphone, but for recording high-quality concert sound, which will also be available for purchase. The right side is equipped with a proprietary metal power button, volume rocker and photo-key. There is also a microSD slot under the flap. The rear filmless glass panel has nothing but a 20.7MP camera, flash, and Sony, Xperia and NFC logos.

The device is perfectly assembled, free from creaks and backlashes. Maximum solidity is achieved by the absence of collapsible parts and a removable battery (this atavism is long overdue for the dustbin of history), coupled with protection from dust and water. The phone feels expensive and of high quality, matching its price tag of 29,990 rubles.

Software

The smartphone out of the box runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat, firmware version 17.1.A.2.55. It includes significant improvements in speed and smoothness, fixes for various bugs, etc. Minor update number 17.1.A.2.69 has just appeared on the horizon and has not been delivered to the test device at the time of writing this review.

The proprietary shell of Xperia Home in the version for Android KitKat has undergone significant changes (lockscreen with sparkles and launching the camera with a swipe from the bottom, transparent status bars and controls, new themes with live wallpapers in the style of PlayStation 4, extended controls in the top row, all KitKat innovations), some of which are described in a separate material. In the case of the Sony Xperia Z2, the company has reserved several unique features that are unique to this smartphone and are not planned for implementation in previous models. Below I will try to describe all of them, and touch on some of the key features of the new version of the shell that are inherent in other models.

Xperia connectivity options now have a one-touch setting for Xperia devices with KitKat or higher, enabling Bluetooth, Screen mirroring, Xperia Link and Media Server. There are many more options in personal settings. Now, for example, you can turn off almost all system icons in the status bar if you don't need them. In the case of the Xperia Z2, motion settings have been added here - answering calls by bringing the device to your ear, rejecting a call by shaking your smartphone and turning off the ringtone by flipping the screen down.

The home screen allows you to choose how information is displayed on the desktop. In fact, these are two launchers - Xperia Home and Simple start screen, reminiscent of that in Samsung devices. It brings to the desktop only the basic parameters in the form of large icons and is intended for older people and very novice users. In the call settings, you can turn on the answering machine, which makes simple voicemail unnecessary. The phone offers to record a greeting, after which it will be able to process incoming calls and save voice messages in memory. It's nice that this feature went to other Xperia smartphones along with the update to KitKat. In addition, a useful function ICE (In Case Of Emergency) has appeared, which is a map of your medical data and emergency contacts. Can be displayed on the locked screen and is available for all Xperia with KitKat.

In the Sound settings, the usual sound effects (equalizers and gadgets for the player, as well as various enhancers for the smartphone speakers) have not gone anywhere, however, the Audio accessories and Audio Hi-Res sections via USB have been added to them. In the first case, the function uses new branded accessories with a 5-pin connector from Sony (the same separate microphone and headset with noise reduction), and in the second case, it is proposed to connect a special amplifier for reproducing high-quality audio with disabled sound effects (for example, branded Sony PHA-2 at a price of $ 500- $ 600). It is difficult to say how a smartphone will show itself with this amplifier, as well as with other non-proprietary amplifiers, since I personally have not yet had the opportunity to check the possibilities, but we will try to do this in the future and supplement the material.

In the display settings, you can find the familiar X-Reality for Mobile enhancer, which makes the image in photos and videos richer, gloves mode, white balance, intelligent backlight control (leaves the screen on while you hold the phone in your hand), wake up from sleep mode double tapping on the locked screen, notification indicator (hidden in the slot of the upper speaker). The rest of the parameters remained practically unchanged, you can see all of them in the screenshots.

There are also branded pre-installed applications (Walkman player, Album gallery, Movies and so on), which have received an improved design with more convenient control and functionality (the calendar, for example, now displays the weather for the next few days). There is a new widget and What "s New section, displaying various interesting novelties from the world of applications and games. The PlayStation client has been added to the built-in applications (perhaps only on the sample for Europe). Interestingly, thanks to the Xperia Lounge application, it will be possible to get several free movies from Sony and an exclusive new album of Michael Jackson's unreleased tracks free of charge Other offers are possible over time, for example now offering 2 months of free use of the music portal Deezer.

Third-party programs include Evernote note-taking utility, OfficeSuite document viewer, Pixlr Express photo editor, File Commander file manager. There is nothing special to say about them.

Camera

The smartphone, like its predecessor Xperia Z1 (and even the Z1 compact), received a 20.7-megapixel camera, which remained unchanged in hardware, but heavily corrected in software. For example, the same frame, taken on Z2 and Z1 compact, in the case of the new flagship weighs one and a half to two times more. We reduced the compression, slightly tweaked the algorithms and now we have almost the best modern smartphone camera.

The interface, meanwhile, remained unchanged, except that additional chips were added. This is support for 4K video recording, which is so relevant today (it is interesting that the Xperia Z1 did not receive it with an update to KitKat, although it was on it that this feature was initially tested on early firmware), and HD video recording at 120 frames per second with the ability to slow down any areas as often as you like (the main difference from the analog in the iPhone 5S), and Full HD video recording at 60 fps, and software blurring of the background in the style of DSLR cameras. All previously available camera applications and add-ons have been refined and improved. Below you can see examples of photos and videos.

It was interesting for me to compare how much the new flagship is superior in photo quality to the "grandfather" Xperia Z. In daytime conditions, the difference in quality is colossal, but in bad conditions the Z2 does not shoot much better.

Sample photos from LG Nexus 5 (without and with HDR +):

Examples of photos from Apple iPhone 5S:

Likewise, in comparison with the iPhone 5S, which in the examples with a toy horse in a dark room of the crowd of devices (Nexus 5, Meizu MX3, Xperia Z1 Compact and Xperia Z) gave the best and correct result. By daytime examples, all devices are approximately comparable, with slight deviations in one direction or another.

Other examples of photos from Sony Xperia Z2:

without and with HDR

without and with HDR

I would also like to note macro photography. Z2 does it really well. But shooting in poor conditions definitely still has room for improvement.

As for video, the examples in 1080p quality at different speeds are equally good both in terms of picture quality and sound, the software SteadyShot works well and makes the moving picture incredibly smooth. Slow-mo video also looks pretty good, the ability to slow down several segments at once and the ease of saving files for transferring to other devices or a computer are pleasantly pleased (you get two clips - slow-motion and 120 fps).

With 4K video, it's not all straightforward. For example, when shooting bees on flowers, I did not see incredible clarity when zooming the picture during recording (apparently the camera did not have time to rebuild and focus properly in such a scenario), although in general both examples look great. The duration of 4K video recording is limited by free memory (a minute of shooting eats up 400 MB) and the temperature state of the device. When recording such a video, all the performance of the hardware is used, so it is better to record such videos in pieces, otherwise after exceeding the threshold of 4 minutes of recording, the phone will report the possibility of overheating and close the camera. It's nice that the recorded video can be immediately trimmed and saved in the gallery, and this is done in just a couple of clicks, and saving is quite fast. Be sure to watch the original video (download from here), YouTube spoils the quality very much.

Benchmarks and performance

The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset with Adreno 330 graphics accelerator and 3 GB of RAM. According to these characteristics, the Sony Xperia Z2 is the leader among the flagships of the first half of 2014. Does this provide any noticeable advantage? The shell, in spite of its great lightness and airiness, sometimes manages to lag or not work quickly enough (especially if you leave beautiful branded animated wallpapers on your desktop). This is somewhat annoying to observe, given such advanced technical characteristics, but in fairness, the Samsung Galaxy S5 also cannot boast of absolute speed and smoothness of the interface, but it is already on sale and has the final commercial software, while the Xperia Z2 will still receive a minor update with fixes, and it is not a fact that before the global launch in May, the matter will be limited only to him. For most tasks, however, the operating speed is more than comfortable.

The synthetic results, however, were not without oddities. For some unknown reason, HTC One (M8) and Xperia Z2 in Vellamo are gaining results lower than their predecessors based on Snapdragon 800. Probably, the lack of test optimization for new chips and Android KitKat (Vellamo writes that in HTML5- test results may be incorrect). In most cases, the performance of the Xperia Z2 will satisfy all fans of virtual parrots. In AnTuTu, the maximum result was 34,998 points, but it was obtained in the refrigerator after several test runs, while the usual Z2 score barely exceeded 34,000 and sagged noticeably after the second and third runs. In Quadrant the device knocked out 18 995 points, Geekbench - 944/2894, 3DMark - 18 679, Basemark OS II - 1216, Epic Citadel - 55.7 fps, GFXBench - 12.5 / 11.7 / 29.1 / 27.3 fps.

According to the results of the Stability Test, one can note a fairly typical heating level for all modern flagships (45 degrees is nothing special, this is the level of the Galaxy S5 and One (M8), but One X + warmed up to 56, Xiaomi Mi3 heats up to 57 - this is where you need to raise the alarm ), the discharge in half an hour of the test was 18%.

In the case of the games Asphalt 8, Dead Trigger 2 and Real Racing 3 with maximum graphics, no performance issues are observed. Plus, they all support Android KitKat full screen mode and hide the onscreen control keys, so it's a pleasure to play. But GTA San Andreas with maximum settings frankly lags, even more than on devices with Snapdragon 800. It showed itself not in the best way there, here there is no optimization for new chips, as well as full-screen mode.

In HD video playback mode at maximum brightness and volume, without a SIM card (in order to exclude the negative impact of not the most stable Moscow networks), the Xperia Z2 is able to hold out for about 12 hours with a discharge of about 9% per hour. In everyday use in active or medium-active mode with listening to music, Internet via LTE / 3G / Wi-Fi, social networks and trips around the city with rare calls and SMS, you can count on a full day of work with 6.5 hours of active screen. This is an excellent result, surpassing, for example, the Xperia Z Ultra. This is due to the 3200 mAh battery and the best power optimization in the Snapdragon 801.

During testing, it was not without a few strange glitches. For example, immediately after turning on the device, an attempt to adjust the status bar controls causes the Android UI process to crash (seen on the white and black Xperia Z2, the problem is purely software), despite the fact that in the future there are no problems with this. Another bug concerns the freezing of the camera viewfinder after unlocking the smartphone with the camera button and launching it directly. This happens about one time out of three or four starts and only when unlocking with the camera button. Naturally, these are just small software irregularities, which will probably be corrected in the near future, you should not raise a panic because of them.

There were no complaints about the telephone functions. In terms of sound quality and maximum volume level in very high-quality headphones (Sennheiser Momentum Over-Ear were used) with tracks purchased from iTunes, the Xperia Z2 surpasses all Sony smartphones that have been tested up to this point, but in comparison with other devices, everything is not so simple. The sound of the iPhone 5S can be described as a little deeper and more massive than that of the Z2, where the sound is a little softer, more suitable for light music, while on the iPhone both heavy guitar parts and massive electronic swotting are comfortable to listen to. The Xperia Z2 does not have a volume margin, while the iPhone is capable of delivering 20-25 percent louder and more powerful sound. Meizu MX3, also used for comparison, sounds the best of both - more detailed, juicier and more balanced, and the volume headroom is even greater. And this is without resorting to various equalizers, proprietary enhancers and third-party players. I will leave experiments with third-party players on your conscience, there is nothing to do with equalizers and improvements like ClearAudio + on good headphones. It was not possible to check the Hi-Res Audio playback capability and its quality during testing, but we will definitely try to do this in the future and supplement the review, as mentioned above.

conclusions

Sony has finally gotten a true flagship, with no compromises in design, materials, screen, camera or sound. It is no worse than any other flagship of competitors, and in many moments it may turn out to be better for someone. What cannot be taken away from a smartphone is premium materials and a stylish appearance, coupled with protection from water and dust, an excellent delivery set for Russia with a very cool and high-quality headset, the presence of interesting accessories, optimal autonomy, good image quality under not the most difficult conditions. beautiful and comfortable shell. Yes, there are some rough edges of the early software, the shell has become a little more shiny and clumsy, it came out somehow indistinct with two speakers of different volume, and in general there is still something to work on, but for me personally, the main flagship of this half-year is definitely the Xperia Z2. At a price of 29,990 rubles, it will be a good candidate for a purchase and is perhaps the most balanced device among all current top-end Android smartphones.

Sony Xperia Z2 is an evolutionary update to the stylish line, there are no revolutionary changes here, but the manufacturer has clearly worked on the bugs. This mainly affected the display - now it is an IPS matrix with acceptable viewing angles and good brightness. The diagonal of the device has also slightly increased - by 0.2 inches. An additional gigabyte of RAM has also appeared (3 GB versus 2 GB) - is it really necessary? The camera now shoots 4K video, and the battery has become more capacious and "tenacious". We also note a full set of interfaces, moisture protection, a glass and metal case, high-quality sound with good headphones included. True, we were a little upset by the light crunch of the case after water procedures, the savings on brightness compared to other flagships, and a non-removable battery, which, according to user reviews, is not a disadvantage for everyone. In general, we recommend buying a smartphone. You can buy the Sony Xperia Z2 phone in three colors: white, black and purple.

Where can I buy

Dimensions and weight - 3.9

The Sony Xperia Z2 is a typical five-inch, or rather 5.2-inch smartphone. Compared to the Xperia Z1, the diagonal has slightly increased, but the dimensions of the device themselves have hardly increased. The Xperia Z2 even managed to shed a few grams of weight (163g versus 170g), and the increase in diagonal was mainly due to the side bezels, which became thinner - all this can be noted as positive changes. The body of the smartphone is far from the thinnest, only 8.45 mm, it is noteworthy that it is 2 mm thicker than its namesake tablet Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet. Nevertheless, the smartphone is quite wide and elongated, it is not so convenient to hold it in one hand, but it is pleasant due to the materials of the case.

The front and back of the phone are covered with glass. As already mentioned, it is pleasant to the touch, looks impressive, but prints are easily collected, which, however, are easy to clean. The disadvantages of this material are that the body of the device is rather slippery: the smartphone sits well in the hand, but it can slide off an inclined plane. In addition, the glass may not withstand accidental falling onto the asphalt and become covered with cracks. So instead of asphalt it is better to drop it into the water, the manufacturer has kept the chip with dust and moisture resistance.

By the way, we tested this feature of the smartphone - the device underwent water procedures. It must be said that the Sony Xperia Z2 has passed our water resistance tests with dignity, despite the small gaps along the edges of the protective glass. In general, the model looks stylish and attractive, the build quality is not bad, but after tests for moisture resistance, the case began to crackle slightly under slight pressure on the lower right corner.

The smartphone can be purchased in three colors: white, black and purple.

Screen - 4.7

The need to improve the displays of this line has been brewing for a long time, and here we finally see tangible improvements. Basically, this is the type of matrix: TN-matrix is a thing of the past, long live IPS! The diagonal of the screen, as already mentioned, is 5.2 inches, the resolution is 1920 × 1080 pixels, the display is covered with a protective glass, the PPI value is high - 424. The viewing angles can be called normal, although not the best among the top models. But the manufacturer still saves on the maximum display brightness, the screen, in our opinion, could be brighter. The display behaves well in the sun - the information remains readable, in addition, the smartphone supports the mode of operation with gloves.

Cameras - 4.7

The Sony Xperia Z2 has a 20.7MP camera with LED flash, autofocus, face detection, image stabilization and a wide range of settings and modes. The maximum photo resolution is 5248 × 3936 pixels, but it is better and easier to shoot in “Super Auto”, which fully justifies its name and takes good 8-megapixel photos, the quality of which drops noticeably only in low light conditions. In addition to the main camera, there is also a 2.2 megapixel front camera, with the ability to shoot Full HD video.

Now, in fact, about video shooting - the main camera of the smartphone allows you to shoot 4K video - 3840 × 2160 pixels at 30 fps. The sound is recorded in stereo, there is also a tracking autofocus. Want Slow Motion and more frames per second? Please - shooting Full HD video at 60 fps and HD video at as much as 120 fps!

Working with text - 5.0

The standard keyboard in the Sony Xperia Z2 is comfortable, it has a function for entering text using swashes (Swype), as well as the ability to change the appearance using themes. There is also a markup of additional characters on the keys, more precisely, it can be added in the keyboard settings. Switching between languages is quick - at the touch of a button.

Internet - 1.0

Google Chrome is installed as a browser, with support for synchronizing tabs with the desktop version. There is no support for multiple page scaling and a separate reading mode. But you can manually set the font size of the text with a single scaling and then, by double-clicking on the page, fit all the text to the selected size.

Communications - 5.0

The manufacturer has supplied the Sony Xperia Z2 (D6503) with everything it can. The device offers dual-band Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi modem mode, Bluetooth 4.0 with support for A2DP, A-GPS and GLONASS, NFC. There is also support for Russian LTE frequencies. The smartphone works with Micro-SIM cards and micro-SD cards up to 128 GB and is equipped with a micro-USB 2.0 port. True, it should be said that due to moisture resistance, you will have to open and close the plugs every time in order to use the connectors. Interestingly, in the tablet of the same name it looked like an inconvenience (tablets, as a rule, do not have plugs). In the case of a smartphone, this looks normal - usually, in order to access the SIM card or memory card, you also have to open the flaps or even remove the back cover of the device.

Multimedia - 4.6

The Sony Xperia Z2 (D6503) audio player supports many formats and plays MP3, FLAC, WAV files and a number of less popular formats. The smartphone comes with good headphones with noise canceling technology. The built-in video player supports most of the popular video formats, but was unable, for example, to play videos in MOV format. The player only supports internal subtitles without the ability to select external ones.

Battery - 4.0

The model has a non-removable lithium-polymer battery with a capacity of 3200 mAh, the capacity has slightly increased. We tested the device in our two standard tests - the smartphone demonstrates excellent battery life. The device played HD video at maximum brightness for 10 hours. In the mode of listening to music with the screen off, the device was discharged in 87 hours - that's just over 3.5 days!

Performance - 3.6

The device uses the Qualcomm MSM8974AB Snapdragon 801 platform with a 2.3GHz quad-core processor, Adreno 330 graphics and 3GB of RAM. For normal operation in everyday use, in our opinion, two cores in a processor with 1 GB of RAM would be enough. Cores and gigahertz fade into the background, where optimization from the manufacturer is much more important. It is worth noting that the Sony Xperia Z2 (D6503) does not experience any performance problems: the smartphone is fast, does not slow down and allows you to play demanding games.

The device is perfect for any games and applications, according to the results of our synthetic tests, the smartphone takes one of the leading positions. For example, in the AnTuTu benchmark, the smartphone received 34661 points, and in 3D Mark Ice Storm Unlimited - 18690 points. The chipset used in the Sony Xperia Z2 is one of the most efficient on the market today.

Memory - 4.0

The total amount of internal memory in the Sony Xperia Z2 is limited to 16 or 32 GB, there is a slot for a micro-SD memory card, cards up to 128 GB are supported. There is also a "hot swap" of the memory card, without turning off the device, you only have to open and close the waterproof plugs every time.

Where can I buy

Peculiarities

The smartphone is certified according to the IP58 standard, which means that you can accidentally, or even on purpose, spill a glass of water on it or speak on it while in the pouring rain or in the shower, while the device will continue to work stably. We tested the splash protection and even bathed the Sony Xperia Z2 - everything works great, but after swimming in the fountain, the body began to crunch slightly.

The device uses a proprietary shell from Sony: all standard applications have undergone changes: from home screens to a browser and a music application. The dialer contains Russian letters, the music player can search for album covers, there is support for third-party themes. Pre-installed applications include Evernote for notes, OfficeSuite 7 office suite with the ability to view documents, a file manager and Smart Connect for connecting various devices. If this is not enough for you, then everything you need can be “picked up” in the Play Market.

Competitors

The technical characteristics of the Sony Xperia Z2 correspond to the level of modern flagships, the model has only a few strong competitors: the Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8. The Xperia Z2 outperforms both competitors in terms of price and size.

No longer bathe in water. It loses out in terms of cameras and battery life, but it beats the Sony Xperia Z2, perhaps only by the brightness of the display.

Made of plastic, the Sony smartphone is made of glass and metal, both are protected from moisture, but the Galaxy S5 is protected according to a more demanding standard (IP 67 versus IP 58). The cameras of the two smartphones are about the same, although the Galaxy S5 display is brighter; also both support work with gloves. The Xperia Z2, on the other hand, has hot-swappable SIM and Micro-SD cards, and has a longer battery life than the Galaxy S5. In general, both devices are about the same, not only in terms of characteristics, but also in terms of price.

The price of Sony Xperia Z2 for the summer of 2014 is 26,790 rubles. For this price, you get a full-fledged flagship smartphone with a good screen, excellent appearance, a thin body, decent headphones included and moisture protection.

I wonder what are they kings? Phones are not their element, TVs are also somehow not very good, sound
, they would have to get even a step closer to Yamaha, PS remains, but this is not for an amateur. So where are Sonya kings?

Facts? It would be interesting to read.
I am aware of the former glory of Sony, I myself can enlighten you on this matter. I'm now asking what revolutionary new Sony is releasing, developing now? Why is the Samsung matrix in Sony TVs? Why, for how many years, Sony laptops cannot finish their own Drivers? Always with them cant. Where are their vaunted acoustics now? For the price tag that they beat, and in everything, there are more interesting things. I'm asking today's facts, not 20 years ago. And if there is nothing to say, then there is nothing to thresh in vain with your tongue.
We live in an age of consumption, and before buying any thing, each person compares functionality, design, quality and, most importantly, the price for himself. And he does not rush to everything that Sony or another brand. Any company has successful products, but there are not very ...
I tried to force myself, at one time, that I would like the Xperia Z1, but it didn’t work. As a result, I bought another device. The review of the Z2 was also not impressed. There are too many flaws. And why in the second review they omitted the story about the overheating of the device?
firstly, Sony TVs have different matrices ... it all depends on the model! they have their own matrices and ellish and so on ... not an argument at all! on TV Sony remains the best manufacturer, which has outperformed its competitors in price since last year! on laptops ... I've heard about drivers ... but alas, the division is already 95% sold and left on the domestic market!
acoustics? where is the acoustics? the acoustics were one of the best, and they remain! now, except that the pioneer is actively pressing them, the rest are somewhere in the tail ... nothing has changed from the sound of the dormouse! the sound remains one of the best on the planet! I myself am a happy possession of a Wokman (in comparison with the players of other manufacturers, they are the best) ...
facts? Well, ok ... from the field of photography: what do you think whose matrices are in most of today's smartphones? Sony has developed a unique thing - smartographs ... are there analogues in the world that can compete with them? NO! more ... from the field of portable players: Sony was the first last year to decide to combine a player, headphones, speakers ... and they did it brilliantly! there are two solutions - plugs and monitor ... I am the owner of the second option!
smartphones: who was the first to propose a projected capacitive sensor in 2012? nokia? No! sleepyheads! again, innovation ... who was the first in 2012 to offer a smartwatch, which is now so famously copied by the whole planet? sleepyheads! ... who created and, most importantly, optimized the work of Dualshock 4 with the new Morpheus virtual reality helmet? sleepyheads! the list can be very long, because I am not aware of professional solutions, for example from the field of prof. Sony camcorders, projectors, etc. ... but yes, I almost forgot ... this year Sony invited the world to test a new full-frame matrix, which accelerates right up to the unimaginable 409600ISO ... by the way, this sensor is already on the Nikon D4S sold for incredible money like...
Here is my advice to you: you don’t know the hardware, don’t get involved in an argument, but leave your personal impressions (subjective attitude to the company's products) with you ... you didn’t like the Z1 ... well, that doesn’t mean that it turned out to be really bad ! many, for example, liked it, and many, on the contrary, consider it the best smartphone of 2013 ... and the camera ... I will say this! you need to turn on your brains and put your hands on the settings, and not shoot on the machine! and the pictures will be better than those of competitors!
Those. Samsung's matrix on a Sony TV looks better. And it shows better. I understand correctly? It's clear about the drivers, there are no options. I'm wondering since when did the Sony acoustics stand on a par with Pioneer, Yamaha, Djibiel, Lowe, etc., Even an entry-level player? The felt-tip pens are different in taste and color, but compare at least with Cowon. And not Sony were the first to cross the player with ears, read here http://lenta.ru/news/2006/06/13/playerphones/. We read about smart watches here http://habrahabr.ru/post/212483/. About touch screens here http://fgadgets.ru/2010-06-19-13-28-31/. So further ... Just tired links to search.
the first moment: if you think that the Samsung matrix looks better than the Sonia one on TVs, then I just have nothing to talk about with you! do you like to watch animation or do you prefer to observe the realism of the picture? the choice is yours ... further: you can argue about acoustics for a long time, but Sony's experience in this area has already shown itself to be a leader, or one of the best! here, as elsewhere, you can agree, you can disagree - everyone's personal business, but it's a fact! Cowon ?? is this a joke?)) no, of course, the company on portables is not bad and even good, but it will not be in a row with such monsters as iPod, Airiver and Wokman ... whatever one may say! and this is also a fact! As for your first link: take in your hands what is on the site under the link and the vokmen about which I wrote above and you will understand that the devices are fundamentally different! and where exactly is this very development of the first player-headphone? for some reason she stayed with the sleepyhead! smart watches ... well, ok, I agree, only options like smart watches with a calculator and other things are not being considered ... again ... where were those smart watches of manufacturers earlier? And why, with the arrival of Sony on this market, everything began to stir? try to answer this question yourself! ... and it suddenly became relevant! your last link does not open at all and I again doubt that there is some objectivity in the field of the sensor! in short, sony was and remains a trendsetter and trendsetter ... you are looking for context in my words and are trying to find a refutation by googling! Although Sony Smartwatch is not the first smart watch, but it is the first in how it had to be done to make it relevant and interesting!

Opinions from the Sony Xperia Z2 (D6503) All reviews on Yandex.Market

Grade 5

Advantages: Tired of listing

Disadvantages: Huge cable connection cover

Glebov Andrey 02 February 2015, Moscow

Grade 5

Pros: -Excellent battery
-Cool camera (there are various settings to improve the photo)
-Stable
-Stylish
-Convenient wireless charging
-The build quality is excellent!
-Lies perfectly in the hand
-The battery is good, the phone can be used all day long. The screen lasts up to 9 hours!
-Waterproof, bathed many times
-Quality sound produces
-Ability to expand memory (slot for microSD)
-Sony is cool!)

Disadvantages: -Small heating during a long game (applies to "Heavy" games)

Commentary: Before that, there was Sony Xperia S, after that I switched to Sony products, as I was very pleased, and when buying an Xperia Z2 I was once again convinced that Sony makes high-quality and practical smartphones (and not only them!)

Ivlev Max January 16, 2015, Krasnoyarsk \ Experience of use: several months

Grade 5

Advantages: - Design, materials and build quality (angular, heavy, beautiful, dense);
- Screen (there is a margin of brightness, the picture quality is excellent, you can adjust the white balance for yourself, there are no highlights, the black level is not bad);
- Good food autonomy (during normal use it survives until the next evening);
- Charges fairly quickly. Some "gray" devices are sold with a dock included;
- Wake up with a double tap on the screen;
- The sound from external speakers is quite good, although it is quieter than that of HTC One M8, there is a possibility of digital sound output to an external DAC via USB, good sound at 3.5 mm output;
- Possibility of high-quality sound recording for additional. an external microphone from Sony (about 1300 rubles), with which the smartphone turns into a dictaphone with stereo sound recording in uncompressed PCM (any other external microphones are not suitable), it is also used for video recording;
- High-quality speech transmission;
- Confidently takes a GSM signal and you can talk in places where many Samsungs, as well as HTC Butterfly S and One M8 will show one or two "sticks", but in reality the voice call does not go through;
- Modern "hardware", there are all the necessary interfaces (except for the infrared port), GPS, Wi-Fi (two bands) and so on works perfectly;
- A separate button for the camera, good quality for shooting photos and videos. The difference in the quality of video shot in 4K mode from FullHD is noticeable. In terms of maintaining the max. video quality is better to shoot in 4K, edit in it, and then output the project in 1080p. The sound is also written decently (stereo);
- A community of users who are constantly improving something. By putting the root and custom recovery, with w3bsit3-dns.com you can install various modifications to change the functionality of the smartphone. For example, there is a mod that almost doubles the volume of stereo speakers and 3.5mm output (but the quality of the headphones suffers);
- Children's "sores", which were present in the first batches of this model, have been eliminated, so now the Z2 is quite possible to take and enjoy using it.

Disadvantages: - Inconvenient location of the main camera (you always have to look, and do not cover the lens with your finger);
- When taking photos with the dedicated button, the camera's autofocus is not very fast even in normal lighting (when tapping on the screen, it works quickly);
- Slippery (after all, it would be better to have just matte plastic on the back than glass);
- Apparently, any falls are fatal for him;
- Well, yes, it heats up with active use (not a problem in autumn and winter);
- There is no infrared port, but you can live without it.

Commentary: I took HTC Butterfly S as a replacement, after which I did not want to lose the habit of a capacious battery, a good display and other advantages of good smartphones. The Z2 was fine. And it's very good that there is an option for purple. Z3 is still raw, there are at least differences from Z2. And if you want purple, then the choice is only for the Z2 or even earlier models.
All in all, Sony offers the same for a similar price, but it comes with a waterproof design and a metal design.

Grade 4

Pluses: good design, camera, sound from external speakers, bright screen with good viewing angles (finally !!!)

Disadvantages: nothing critical was identified (more details below)

Commentary: I have been using it for three months, previously there were a bunch of models from Sony Ericsson, Sony Xperia s, Xperia ray, Xperia ion, Xperia zl, and of course Xperia Z1, so there is something to compare with.
Finally, Sony made a screen and speakers worthy of a flagship, the sound, albeit not super loud, but of high quality, the screen is bright with excellent viewing angles, minus one broken writing in the upper left area of the screen
the camera is the same as on the Z1, but with a clearly modified shooting algorithm, much better than on the Z1.
In conditions of lack of illumination, it shoots perfectly, by the standards of mobile devices.
The build is excellent
No complaints about the connection.
Like the Z1, due to the peculiarities of the lifestyle, every evening it is washed with soap in the bathroom, there are no complaints about moisture protection.
For those who write on the curve, the translation is clearly a flashed device.
I note that I have not heard a single complaint, which is why I ended up buying this device for myself.
In comparison with previous Sony models, this is the earth and the sky, as well as a big step forward, because the Z1 suffered from periodically reboots, the ZL often died from overheating, and the Xperia ion simply sagged in speed compared to its counterparts.
I have often heard from people the phrase "it is expensive for you ... I just ordered it for three times cheaper", and not at all in reproach to users, but I think that most of the reviews are about the devices purchased in this way.
Marriage is found everywhere, but much of what people have said simply cannot actually be found in the original apparatus.
Cameras displaced by a fraction of a millimeter, yes there is such, but the work does not disrupt and is not noticeable.
A marriage in moisture protection is quite possible.
But, for example, crookedly glued glass with gaps of 0.2 mm in the rear and 0.06 (!!!) in the front, despite the fact that the glass is 1 mm deeper into the case - this, if possible, then you can only notice such an error sitting with a microscope above him.
Yes, after reading the reviews, I basically spent 2 hours measuring all the openings of my phone, and that's why I can't understand how this is possible.
The phone is excellent, and apart from the broken one it wrote on the screen and did not upset a little weak network reception.
I advise everyone.

Advantages: Beautiful, stylish, fast, very smart, powerful battery, waterproof.

Disadvantages: If only the price, but Sony is Sony, it has never been cheap.

Commentary: I've been using the phone for 2 weeks now and I can't find anything bad in it! Now in essence:
1.I have a 14w18 assembly, I don't see any crooked gaps, the main camera's eye is shifted from the center by a fraction of a millimeter up (if it hadn't been for the reviews I would never have paid attention to), the quality of the shooting does not affect the quality of the shooting.
2. There are no problems with communication at all, they hear me well and I also hear well without gurgling and loss of communication, and sometimes so loudly that I hold the receiver at a distance of 20 centimeters.
3.The smartphone camera is very good! Who was there complaining about a bad flash, not very pictures ?! Just when you turn on the fotik with the button, the automatic mode is set to 8 MP, turn on the fotik from the menu and make manual settings, then the fotik will delight you. During the day, the pictures are very good, in the dark they took pictures in the bathroom, I will repeat myself for the phone very worthily! The video also shoots well in clear weather and indoors with artificial lighting.
4. Who complained about the quiet speakers ?! He turned on different music in a large room at work, everything is heard perfectly, the sound is 5 points!
5. Sonya's battery is what I have dreamed of for a long time, for two days with all kinds of phone use (LTE Internet, listening to music without headphones for several hours, games, photos, etc., not counting calls and SMS) for a screen at 5, 2 inches is beyond praise!
7.Many complain about the phone heating up during heavy games and 4K video. This is done on purpose so that the system is not stupid. Heating is painless and the phone cools down very quickly.
6. A bunch of different chips: waking up the screen by double-clicking, accepting a call just by bringing the phone to your ear, Stamina mode, Wi-Fi with geolocation, this is when Wi-Fi turns on automatically at home, and when you leave the house, the Internet turns on automatically and much more interesting !
PS: Who else doubts, buy unambiguously, just not in gray stores, but verified with an affordable guarantee, especially since the price has dropped below 25,000 re.

Grade 5

Pluses: - chic design and pleasant tactile sensations from using the phone
- very good display, IPS, enough brightness
- the battery holds a very, very long time
- good camera, fast focus and shooting, side shooting button
- metal and glass, no plastic
- for a man's hand, both weight and size are adequate
- ignores water
- stereo sound (speaker top and bottom), the sound is directed away from the display towards you, it is very convenient to watch movies and YouTube
- you can change / insert a sim card and SD without disassembling the phone
- supports LTE

Disadvantages: - the phone from batch 14w20 turned out to be with an inoperative speaker (lower), I had to change
- issued from the batch 14w21, like there is no "marriage", but you can see the gap between the display and the case in the lower left corner
- the camera overheats when shooting 4K video for a long time and turns off

Commentary: I understand that there are already a lot of reviews about the phone, but I decided to add my own five kopecks. Over the past 1.5 years, he has owned Apple, Samsung, and now Sony phones. The iPhone 5 sank, although it was fine with me. Samsung Galaxy S4 crashed to smithereens after falling from 50 cm to the asphalt, but apparently it was not lucky, and there was no protection - and the phone also suited it. I took the Sony Xperia Z2 - I can't say that the phone is without flaws, but as for me, it is now the best on the market or one of the best. Initially, I was attracted by the design and display, and when I started using it, I was also very pleasantly surprised by the battery - it’s even very difficult to kill the phone in a day, and I don’t need it anymore. In normal mode (a couple of conversations, whatsapp, photos, instagram, skype, navigation, etc.), 65-75% remains by the night. The phone suits absolutely everyone - the only thing, after the sad experience with the S4, is that it stuck 0.33mm glass onto the 9H screen to keep it safe. In general, I think, to each his own (and Apple, and Samsung, and LG, and Sony, etc.), but this is a very decent phone. The best way to choose is to hold in your hands and play with the phones you like in the store, and then order the one that you like the most at a cheaper price via the Internet.
