Samsung galaxy note 2 specifications. Specifications Galaxy Note II

Introduced last year, the Galaxy Note smartphone was a bold experiment: Samsung took the best components at the time and packaged them in a highly controversial form factor. Personally, I thought that the resulting device would be of interest only to geeks, however, as it turned out, I was very wrong: in total, more than 10 million Galaxy Notes were sold in the world, which is an excellent indicator for such a (far from mass) device.

Released this year, the Galaxy Note II is a major upgrade to its predecessor, with an even larger 5.5-inch screen, an Exynos 4 Quad processor, and an improved stylus. But can the novelty repeat the success of its charismatic predecessor?

Equipment

The Galaxy Note II comes with a battery, a charger, a USB cable, a headset with vacuum earplugs, replaceable silicone eartips, an S Pen, as well as instructions and other waste paper. Interestingly, even the titanium gray version of the smartphone comes with headphones and other white accessories.

Appearance and design

The appearance of the Galaxy Note II immediately gives out in this device belonging to the line of Samsung smartphones of the 2012 model. If last year's phones (including the Galaxy S II and Galaxy Note) were black rectangles with rounded corners, the Galaxy Note II, like the Galaxy S III, replaced the squareness with a more "organic" and "natural" design.

Due to its roundness, the Galaxy Note II lies well in the hand (as far as it is possible for a device of this size), but the materials, as in the case of the SGS III, leave an impression of cheapness. By the way, I want to note right away that the gray version of the SGN II looks noticeably better than the white one, due to the textured plastic.

The layout of controls and connectors is typical for modern Samsung smartphones. Under the screen is a mechanical Home key, next to it are the Menu and Back touch buttons. Above the screen there was a place for the camera, light / proximity sensors and an indicator LED. The lock key is located on the right side of the device, the volume rocker - on the left.

Unfortunately, it is completely impossible to control the Galaxy Note II with one hand. I, with a height of 193 cm, boast rather big hands, but to perform most of even the simplest tasks, I had to either intercept the phone on the go (at the risk of dropping it), or give up and connect the second hand to the process. As a result, I was even forced to turn off automatic switching of screen orientation, because during the process of interception, the phone inevitably switched to landscape mode.

Under the cover (on which the NFC antenna is located from the inside), you can see slots for micro-SIM and micro-SD cards, as well as a 3100 mAh battery.

Screen

The first Galaxy Note was equipped with a screen with a diagonal of 5.3", with an aspect ratio of 16:10 and a resolution of 1280x800, while the subpixels were arranged according to the PenTile (RGBG) scheme. In the Galaxy Note II, the screen diagonal increased to 5.5", and the resolution decreased to 1280x720 (respectively, The aspect ratio has also changed and is now 16:9). But Samsung finally abandoned PenTile, now each pixel, as it should be, consists of three full-fledged subpixels, albeit arranged in an unusual order.

Sub-pixel layout (from left to right): Galaxy Note II (BRG), PenTile (RGBG), “classic” RGB triads

Traditionally for Super AMOLED screens in Samsung phones, the color reproduction of the Galaxy Note II display is significantly shifted to the blue side. As usual, there are different color rendering modes in the settings: Dynamic, Standard, Natural, and Film. The most attractive of them, in my opinion, is "Standard", because "Dynamic" is too vigorous, and "Natural", on the contrary, looks too muted.

In general, the display in the Galaxy Note II has good image quality. In particular, small text looks better on it than on the screen of the Galaxy S III and Galaxy Nexus, despite the lower pixel density.

Software and S-Pen

The TouchWiz shell in the Galaxy Note II is practically no different from that in the Galaxy S III, a review of which we strongly recommend reading. In my opinion, among all branded shells, it is the best (and certainly surpasses HTC Sense in terms of convenience and stability). One of the interesting innovations in Note II is the so-called "blocking mode", which allows you to temporarily turn off notifications about incoming events (calls, messages, letters, and so on). This mode can be enabled both manually and according to a schedule. Also, the user can create a "white list" of contacts who can reach him even in blocking mode. In my opinion, the usefulness of this feature is difficult to overestimate.

All other software innovations compared to the SGS III are due to the S Pen, the functionality of which has grown compared to the first Note. We specially recorded a short video that shows the capabilities of the S Pen in the Galaxy Note II:

Camera

The Galaxy Note II has exactly the same camera as the Galaxy S III - it can rightfully be called one of the best 8-megapixel modules available on the market at the moment. Full size test photos can be found in a separate gallery.

Galaxy Note II video records like this:

In general, the quality of shooting both photos and videos is at a very decent level, approximately corresponding to other flagship smartphones in 2012.

Performance and autonomy

If at the time of the announcement of the Galaxy Note II it was possible to call the fastest Android smartphone in the world, then at the moment this title has passed to new models based on Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro chips. However, Note II still occupies the top lines of ratings based on the results of synthetic benchmarks.

But what I, to be honest, did not expect at all, was a very long battery life. Even if you actively use the smartphone (several hours of music, about an hour of games, always-on synchronization of e-mail and Twitter, occasional web surfing), its charge is quite enough for two days. Moreover, if you follow simple saving rules, the Galaxy Note II life can be extended to three days, which is an absolute record among large-screen smartphones available in our country.

In the dry matter

To be honest, during the three weeks of communication with the Galaxy Note II, I could find only two absolute minuses in this device - cheap case materials and dimensions that are not quite suitable for convenient one-handed operation. The conditional disadvantages include the Super AMOLED HD screen, which is good, but still falls short in quality to the best IPS matrices.

Everything else - performance, battery life, camera quality, the implementation of the S Pen - can be safely written down as pluses. In my opinion, the only obstacle to buying an SGN II may be the incompatibility of its size specifically with your hands.

Reasons to buy Samsung Galaxy Note II:

  • battery life;
  • performance;
  • excellent camera;
  • really working handwriting recognition;
  • recognition of 1024 gradations of pressure on the pen;
  • extremely useful application S Note.

2 reasons not to buy Samsung Galaxy Note II:

  • monstrous sizes;
  • you are allergic to shiny plastic.

What did not like

so a year of using the phone has passed, I have 1 laptop, but I am writing a review here, because. the first ones are no longer sold, and the second is very similar to the first. As soon as the second laptop came into the world, the first one updated the firmware to the second one, and since it was imprisoned for a different firmware, it immediately began to dull a little, and most importantly ... exactly a year later the battery died, at first it held less and less, and now charging 50% and he's out. I'm going to buy a new battery right now. Well, I also get constantly Google applications ... which turn on, update, eat traffic ... this can be fixed if you purchase ROOT rights, but then the license is canceled. And one more thing ... my wife has the same phone ... after half a year of use, a microphone with a charging socket was covered, no guarantee, repair 800 rubles.

What did you like

What did not like

1) poor optics in the camera, normal pictures can only be taken in bright light
2) a weak processor, made according to the old technology, there is clearly not enough power, there are already brakes when launching updates and handwriting
3) the price is high
4) the operating time could be longer! My cell phone lasts much longer.
5) not quite competent positioning of the stylus

What did you like

1) a large screen with a width of only 80 mm 2) RGB matrix (cheers, finally in Samsung)!)) 3) 3.1 amperes with a weight of only 180 grams and such a thickness! 4) it is convenient to hold and plus there is a keyboard shift to the edge for ease of input with one hand5) a well-made stylus !!! Which is now both convenient and functional! 6) multi-window! Even though it is only at the software level so far, which means it works only in some applications, but this has been really lacking for androids for so long. 7) decent operating time, despite the 3 + 1 core processor. ) a bunch of different settings for everything and everything)) 10) a special mode in the camera for shooting at low light levels 11) loud speakers 12) competent energy saving profiles that also affect the color profile of the screen !!!)) And the frequency of the processor !!!))

What did you like

The size. Screen. Vitality. Performance.

What did not like

very thin lid. It is not very convenient to use with one hand, although the built-in software has all sorts of things that make it easier, but in fact, 2 hands are most often needed. There is a slight loss of mobility.
- The Samsung interface is not well thought out for this screen size. It was quite possible to fit more icons on the screen. Although this is perhaps its only drawback.

What did you like

a huge screen, and even though I'm 13 years old, it sits well in my hand) holds the battery for a long time, and once I watched as many as three films in a row))) Platform. Android, and that says it all. . Camera. Great pictures, not NIKKON, of course, but it suits me .. Probably this is the most important thing. Battery. Really powerful. Considering that all day long from the phone on the Internet, there is always a connection to programs such as WhatsApp, the use of calls and SMS, plus music through powerful headphones for 2.5 hours, enough for 12-15 hours.

What did not like

1) bluetooth does not play music on a mono headset, for example I have a Jabra BT2045 - only calls. And this is extremely inconvenient.
2) The buttons are not pressed with the stylus. has a finger.
3) You can't drive on the screen with a pen - only with your finger or a special stylus (included).
4) You need to get used to the operating system (Symbian was subjectively simpler).
5) When there is an incoming call, the name of the caller from the address book is not pronounced.
6) The client program on a stationary computer for synchronization is extremely inconvenient.

What did you like

1) Big screen. 2) Long battery life. 3) Excellent work with Skype, mail and the Internet. 4) Voice input of text (works for C grade). 5) conveniently organized work with SMS messages.

With a smaller display size, which is good for them and turned out to be Samsung Galaxy Note 2 N7100 at least in appearance, so we decided to make another brief review of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 in which to find, as they say, differences not only in size, if you do not have time to read the entire article, I advise you to watch this video.

Video short review of Samsung Galaxy Note 2 in Russian

Well, let's proceed to the review of the miracle device. The first thing that catches your eye is, of course, the size of the display, it is surprisingly not 7 inches, but only 5.5 inches, as the company positions for greater ease of use, and what particularly pleased me was that the Super AMOLED display technology with a 16:9 aspect ratio and HD resolution, and all this is processed by a quad-core processor with a faster frequency than even the Galaxy Note N8000 which is 1600 Mhz. Unfortunately, such a breakthrough with applications did not appear, this was to be expected, because very little time has passed since the release of the older brother. Well, something has appeared and now we will consider how useful these things are.

The Air View function makes it easy to view photos without additionally opening photo folders, which saves our time and makes it easier to use Galaxy Note II.

Pop-up notes

Also a useful function that works when you double-click on the screen of your smartphone and all this during a conversation, which helps to make a small note (write down an address, an important assignment or a phone number)

This function helps to cut a specific object in the browser with simple movements and immediately save it to the buffer. You just need to click after circle and save in a notepad or send by e-mail.

Well, perhaps all the innovations, of course, have updated and improved the notebook, organizer, notes for writing with the S Pan digital pen, which cannot but please fans of digital pens, now the smartphone understands many hand movements converting them immediately into digital text. Now let's take a closer look at the characteristics of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

Specifications

Display

  • display type Super AMOLED HD (1280 x 720)
  • diagonal 5.55 inches

CPU

  • Quad-core processor with a clock speed of 1600 MHz

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 - the device was very popular in 2012-2013. It was actively advertised wherever possible. In the review, we will tell you all its chips and conclude what the Note 2 is - a tablet, a phone, or something new at that time. We will trace the changes since the first version and briefly give recommendations on the purchase of this device.

In addition to the smartphone itself, the kit includes the following items:

  • standard set of instructions.
  • A white charger that looks a lot like the charger for the Galaxy Note 1.
  • White cable.
  • Ear pads for headphones.
  • The headset itself is exactly the same as in the Samsung Galaxy Note 1.

Appearance

The device has become slightly longer than its predecessor. The screen has increased both by increasing this very length, and by reducing the width of technical gaps. The thickness of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has not changed in any way.

Let's go through the elements of the case. The headphone jack has moved to the left at the top. On the other end, the power button has become a little shorter and also moved closer to the bottom of the case. This makes it more comfortable to press with one hand, especially if the length is increased.

There were no changes at the bottom end. On the volume control side, again, the keys have become slightly shorter, which are located lower than before.

The back cover has a corrugated metal texture. Of course, it's just the usual glossy plastic, which collects all sorts of fingerprints pretty well.

A film on the display is also required without fail, because the device is very scratched. Especially if you unsuccessfully put it with some object. These are the features of the first generation Gorilla Glass.

Display

The screen of the Samsung Note 2 is 5.5 inches (1280 × 720 pixels), slightly elongated. Matrices S3 and Note 2 are very similar to each other. Color renditions almost completely correspond to each other. Maybe a little more correct on the Galaxy Note 2. Otherwise, the owner will not notice the difference if he does not look closely.

True, if you take a closer look, you can note the improvement in the quality of the display in Note 2. The Galaxy S3 has red and blue inclusions inside the borders of the letters, but there is nothing like that on the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. "Multi-touch" for 10 one-time touches.

In the display settings, new "chips" appeared:

  • Enable context pages. These are additional desktops that are created during a specific action. If you go into the settings, you can see four options: S-Pen; headphone page; stand page and roaming page. A small icon appears at the bottom of the screen, indicating the context page. This can be turned off. The set of programs at the bottom of the display also changes.
  • "Intelligent rotation" allows you to lie on the pillow, hold the phone in front of your face and it will not change its orientation. That is, if you simply turn it in front of your face to a horizontal position, then the device will turn the screen over, but if you lie down yourself, then no. The function is “tied” to the front camera and works quite well.
  • Change display modes. Dynamic (most powerful), standard, natural and film mode (slight yellowing) are available.

Specifications

Specifications of Samsung Galaxy Note 2:

  • Samsung Exynos 4412 quad-core processor.
  • Video chip - Mali-400 MP.
  • RAM - 2 GB.
  • Built-in memory - 16, 32 or 64 GB, which can be expanded using a built-in memory card up to 64 GB.

Modern simple games on such devices will be played, but at minimum settings, but you will have to forget about high-performance ones.

The phablet has Android version 4.1.1 installed, but later it was updated to 4.4.2. The company inserted its additional gadgets into it, which were not even on the S3. What is interesting and useful in them?

  • Home screen mode. In fact, it differs in that the widgets become simpler and the display becomes without any additional graphic frills and frills. It seems like it simplifies the work of new users, however, in fact, this setting is not really needed.
  • Blocking mode. This is some version of the "black list" with a timer. That is, you can either partially or completely disable incoming calls, notifications, and even an indicator if necessary.
  • There is S-Kloud - a synchronization system where SMS messages and logs are stored. They promise that even the backup will be there completely. This is already a very good move towards ease of use, towards safety and comfort for the end user.
  • With the help of the S-Pen, as in the pilot model, a lot can be adjusted here.

Multitasking is already present on this smartphone, although this feature has been widely used not so long ago. It starts by long pressing the "Back" button. In the curtain that appears, we see all the programs that currently support multitasking. You can run full two tasks. For example, the browser and S-Note. It is possible to change windows. This will also be true for the horizontal screen orientation.

Battery and autonomy

The smartphone has a 3100 mAh battery, which allows you not to part with it all day, and even in the evening the phablet will not sit down. The operating time is very dependent on the mobile operator, on the frequency of switching between bands. It is, of course, possible to "put" him in a day if you sit in more or less difficult games, use the Internet, etc.

But with average standard loads, the gadget will quietly serve you all day.

The Note 2 has a power saving feature. When the pen is detached, the device detects it. Inside there is a sensor that monitors this. The savings are not very big, especially if the gadget is very stressed, but still.

S Pen

Speaking of Samsung Note 2, first of all, its signature S-Pen is meant. The second version of the pen has become a little wider and a little longer than the original, and it has also acquired the shape of a cylinder squeezed from both ends for ease of use:

  1. Firstly, the new pen will never slip anywhere now.
  2. And secondly, the position in the hand has become very comfortable. In the earlier model, I always wanted to change the position of the fingers.

The changes also affected the pen tip. Previously, it was made of ordinary fluoroplastic, which does not scratch the glass, but does not give any feeling of writing on paper with a pen.

The new one is also made of plastic, but there is a feeling as if you are writing with an old felt-tip pen or pencil on paper. The result is a completely different feeling and a different level of comfort. It just needs to be tried once.

The new pen is already a full-fledged working tool, and not just an interesting feature of a smartphone.

The button on the stylus switches the last tools in the cycle. Including there is a useful function for tracking the S-Pen, if suddenly the owner accidentally left it, then the smartphone is quite disgusting and persistently reminds of this.

S note

This branded application for the Note series has acquired a number of innovations:

  • Now the notes are synchronized with the "cloud" and the user will not lose them even if the information on the phone is completely erased.
  • Additional templates have been added. In fact, this is a pre-installed set of backgrounds and some fields that allow you to quickly organize a record. For example, in a travel note, we can immediately write where we are going, with whom, add photos.
  • In the drawing mode, it became possible to select an additional color from the spectrum for each tool. There is a pipette to pick up a color from the picture lying on the working field. You can also customize the brush and save it as a default set. You can immediately switch between saved sets. If necessary, this can be easily removed.
  • There is a function to improve performance: shape recognition (the device tracks what we draw and offers the closest shape in appearance), formula recognition (you can immediately put it in the browser so that it suggests the features of the solution), text recognition (although the Russian language machine does not understand).
  • There is a regular text module where you can "beat" the text from the keyboard. We can add a photo, record and add a video, drag what you need from the "clipboard" or add a map. There is also a color collection of pictures and "drawing ideas" - you can write what you want to insert as a picture.
  • The ability to record what we do on the screen. Just press the record button and save. When playing, the smartphone shows the creation of this note almost step by step. This animation can be removed, but the note itself will remain.

Camera

The phablet has two cameras:

  1. The main one is 8 MP.
  2. Front 1.9 MP without autofocus.

On the one hand, the camera module remains old, that is, the same as the Galaxy S3. On the other hand, the image processing algorithm was changed. It has become more efficient and produces a more accurate and interesting picture. There are no global changes, but in the details the difference is noticeable.

The interface was almost completely preserved, only by changing some functions:

  1. Continuous shooting has moved to a long press of the shutter button. The same 20 frames, but now you do not need to switch specifically to the mode. This feature can be disabled in the settings.
  2. The menu column "Best Photos" remained, but now "Best Shots" have also appeared. Why is this needed? You take a group photo, and someone in it yawns, then blinks. You shoot a series of shots and on each shot you choose the correct head position for each person. As a result, the “output” is a picture where no one blinks, everyone looks at the camera and smiles.
  3. HDR is now both normal and intense. The intensive option extends the dynamic range even more, but strongly “burns out” the colors. Therefore, they must be used very carefully. For sunset photos, it is better to use the usual option.
  4. There was a faint light. In fact, this is an extended shutter speed.

With video in Galaxy Note 2, everything is also not very simple. Now you can set both the normal recording mode and slow motion. We can choose to slow down by two, four or eight times. And it is also possible, on the contrary, to speed up the movement by two, four and eight times.

Results

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is a confident, noticeable, good evolution of its predecessor. Ergonomics was improved, additional "chips" were introduced, some problems were removed, the pen was brought to mind.

The only thing I would like is a louder external speaker, and the presence of an iron camera button did not hurt, since users do not always get to the small program circle “Descent”.

Otherwise, Samsung turned out to be a really good device that does not lose its relevance even now.

Video

The size of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is much larger than other smartphones, this is due to the large screen diagonal of 5.5 inches. Compared to the first Galaxy Note, the second has become a little narrower and taller. Galaxy Note II is not suitable for use with one hand, it is better to hold it in one hand while controlling it with the other. The back cover is made of glossy plastic, it is easily soiled and quickly covered with scratches.

Screen - 4.0

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 uses a high-quality screen with a diagonal of 5.5 inches. Matrix type - Super AMOLED HD, screen resolution - 1280 × 720 pixels, PPI value - 267, protective coating - Gorilla Glass. The advantages of the display are a large diagonal and high resolution, excellent brightness and contrast. The screen will appeal to lovers of bright colors. Cons - Super AMOLED technology, due to which the image is overly contrasting, and the colors on the screen are not natural. Not everyone will like it. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 screen has another nasty feature called "Colortile". This is a barely noticeable red-green rim on the letters. Most users do not see it, however, for some people, eyes get tired from this effect. An indirect advantage of using Super AMOLED is that the screen is energy-intensive, which is why the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 runs on a single charge longer than many competitors. Compared to the first Galaxy Note, the resolution has decreased (1280×800 versus 1280×720) and the diagonal has increased, the screen has become a little narrower and taller.

Camera

The smartphone has an 8 MP camera with LED flash. The maximum resolution for video recording is 1920 × 1080 pixels, the recording speed is 30 frames per second, the sound is recorded in stereo mode.

Working with text - 5.0

The standard keyboard on the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is comfortable, with Swype typing and a separate row of numbers so you don't have to switch to additional characters when dialing. In addition, there is an adaptation of the keyboard for one-handed input: the keyboard shrinks and fits to the right or left edge of the screen, thanks to this, despite the size of the screen, you can enter text with one hand (although the letters become too small when this option is enabled). Disadvantages - an inconvenient language switching system: you need to hold your finger on the space bar and swipe left or right. To enter most additional characters, including the comma sign, you need to call an additional menu.

Internet - 3.0

The browser in the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is great for browsing the web: it has the ability to repeatedly zoom the page to fit text to the width of the screen and a reading mode that adapts the text on the page for easier reading (when you turn on reading mode, you are left with only text and pictures from the article) This mode is convenient to use when reading a large amount of text on the Internet. In Samsung Galaxy Note 2, you can use the browser in a pop-up window or place it only on half of the screen (multi-view mode).

Interfaces

The smartphone supports all common wireless interfaces: dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and NFC. The device has the S Beam function, with which you can quickly transfer files, such as photos, music or videos, from one Note II to another using Wi-FI or NFC, attaching them to each other “backs”. An important feature of Note II is the included S-Pen stylus, which allows you to take notes, drawings and various drawings. To accommodate the S-Pen in the smartphone there is a special hole. To work with the stylus, special software is provided. There is no support for Russian LTE frequencies.

Multimedia - 4.6

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 plays almost any video without prior conversion - the device supports rare audio formats and video containers. In the player, you can select audio tracks, as well as subtitles, both built-in and external. The audio player plays most common as well as rare formats, including uncompressed FLAC audio. Thanks to the large screen diagonal, Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is the best option among smartphones for watching videos in terms of size / compactness.

Battery - 3.7

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is one of the leaders in terms of battery life: the device is capable of playing HD video at maximum brightness for up to 10 and a half hours, while listening to music, the smartphone works for about 50 hours.

Performance - 1.7

On the device, you can play any games available on Google Play and watch videos in high quality, up to 1080p. The device uses the Samsung Exynos 4412 platform with a 1.6 GHz quad-core processor, a Mali-400 graphics subsystem and 2 GB of RAM. The smartphone showed excellent results in synthetic tests, however, during everyday use, slowdowns are observed, especially when interacting with desktops.

Memory - 4.0

The smartphone has 16 GB of internal memory, there is support for microSD memory cards up to 64 GB, and hot-swappable cards are also supported.

Peculiarities

The device has a separate settings item that optimizes the device for one-handed operation. So the on-screen keyboard, dialer and calculator can be “pinned” to the right or left edge of the screen to make them easier to use. An important feature of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is the built-in stylus, which significantly expands the capabilities of the device. The smartphone recognizes handwriting made with a stylus, and it also has several programs designed specifically for its use. The device is running a proprietary shell from Samsung - TouchWiz. In this shell, the manufacturer added its own browser, dialer, SMS client, music and video players, its own weather application and many other programs. The built-in video player supports most third-party video codecs and video formats, making it convenient to watch even unconverted video from your phone. The audio player allows you to listen to music not only by artist, but also by folder. S Memo is an excellent note-taking program with handwriting support.
