Today, a rare house can be imagined without a TV in it. Moreover, this technique has become so clever that with its help you can easily find the video you like. There is no need to go to the cinema: having bought a large home TV, you can watch a movie in your usual conditions, because many models allow you to get an experience commensurate with the effect of presence. What do you need to know about such electrical appliances?

The undeniable trend of recent times has become increasing the diagonal of the TV. Fashionable, status, functional - these are the three main pillars that keep the demand for a large modern TV set. Manufacturers want to prove that their option is the coolest. To do this, they use different image transmission technologies, make the device multifunctional and, of course, emphasize the size in inches (to accurately determine this parameter, you need to know). This race is most obvious in practice.

The functional component of large TVs

Such a device should not only be large - there will be little sense from just hanging or standing a huge rectangle. There are certain technologies that help offerings to become truly flagship and in demand.

LCD (LED) and OLED devices are now available. It is worth figuring out what the difference is.

OLED technology allows you to get not only an ultra-high picture, but also a thinner TV compared to other LCD counterparts. A similar model LG 55EC930V, which has a thickness of only 4.3 mm, has already been released into mass production. Samsung has an even thinner example - the Samsung UE55H7000, which is even thinner (just 3.2mm). But this is not the limit: at last year's exhibition in Seoul, LG provided an example world's thinnest TV less than 1 mm thick. It is attached to the wall using a special magnetic tape. At the same time, the device is quite capable of claiming to be a big one, because the diagonal of its screen is 55 inches (about 140 cm).

Of course, any OLED TV costs fabulous money, but progress does not stand still and develops, so we can expect a decrease in prices for such equipment against the backdrop of new prospects opening up. You can learn more about the functionality of the devices from the article about.

Giant models

It is necessary not only to want to purchase a multi-inch screen, but to have all the conditions for this. The largest TV in the world was clearly invented for those who will definitely not have problems with the place and installation. Such consumers will have to shell out 400,000 euros - this is how much the product from Tecnovision cost at the time of its release in 2007. The record of a diagonal of 205 inches has not yet dared to overcome any of the famous brands.

By comparison, the world's smallest TV, the Amatheria, has a screen size of just 2 inches.

This liquid crystal masterpiece with dimensions of 4.55 x 2.56 meters entered the Guinness Book of Records. The screen resolution in it is, of course, HD, which was the most advanced at that time. But that's not all - it turns out that 750 thousand LEDs are used to illuminate it. In any case, such dimensions make you think about installing the device even before starting the construction of the room.

Today, a decade later, more advanced versions of the giants are offered: largest led tv Aquos LC-90LE745U from Sharp has a diagonal of 90 inches. In practice, it will be 2 meters wide and show excellent technical characteristics:

  • resolution at 1920 x 1080 pixels;
  • 176 degrees of viewing angle both vertically and horizontally;
  • Wi-Fi connectivity;
  • work with 3D films.

Sharp Aquos LC-90LE745U

The picture on the giant TV screen is really incredibly clear and rich. It is worth mentioning the cost - $ 11,000 at the time of release.

It is impossible not to say about plasma giant from Panasonic is the TH-152UX1W, which also has 3D technology. The resolution is amazing - it is 4096 x 2160 pixels, that is, four times the size of a normal Full HD screen. There are many other interesting developments here:

  • ultra-fast matrix control technology, which increases the clarity of the three-dimensional picture;
  • proprietary "chip" 3D 24p SmoothFilm for the depth of the stereoscopic image.

Panasonic TH-152UX1W

The creators emphasize: the offer can be used not only in entertainment, but also in business, educational and medical institutions. Today it is the most expensive TV in the world worth approximately one million dollars.

Available and popular options

It is clear that the majority of potential consumers do not live in mansions, but in ordinary city apartments. This housing can also be decorated with a large LCD TV (or analogue in a plasma version).

The cheapest, but at the same time, large TV is the offer of Toshiba 48L3443 - only 35,000 rubles. In appearance and in its functionality, this 121-centimeter device is more than modest - for example, it does not have much developed Internet connectivity. However, the colors are natural here, which cannot but please the consumer - as well as the price of a slightly smaller analogue, but only 40 inches (102 centimeters), which can be purchased for 28,000 rubles.

Slightly more expensive, but at the same time more functional, will be Sony KDL-50W805B with 127 centimeters of the screen in the diagonal. It already has full access to all popular services - from YouTube to Amazon (coming soon). The sound and picture quality make the model a leader in its category. Present and the ability to watch 3D movies... A similar TV can be bought for 46,000 rubles.

Samsung TV UE55HU8590 fashionable curved screen CurvedT-Shape design and UltraHD resolution. This allows for fantastic picture depth. But that's not all - Samsung has collected all the most modern technologies in this model:

  • local dimming;
  • 4K resolution;
  • ClearMotionRate 1200 Hz
  • 3D support.

The price, of course, is appropriate - 160,000 rubles, but quite affordable compared to the record-breaking giants.

Old lineup offers

Buying a new large TV seems like a tempting decision, but modern models are so expensive that those who wish have to apply for a loan for them, significantly overpaying. Meanwhile, an outdated lineup (for example, from 2013) can have all the necessary functionality - go online or play photos and videos from a portable device. At the same time, they have quite a large 120-centimeter diagonal and a reasonable price (you can find options up to 40,000 rubles).

So, a large TV is an interesting and useful technique in the house, where its placement allows the space of the room. If you doubt that such a screen will fit into your interior, find out which is comfortable for viewing and suitable for the size of the room. Modern devices that can work online are especially captivating. In a small room, there is no point in installing such devices: you should watch a TV with a large diagonal only with. Only in this case, viewing will not strain your eyes and bring maximum pleasure.

Ultra-thin TVs are trending. They are talked about, people want to buy them, and they represent the peak of technology. History has many examples when eminent and not so famous brands presented their thinnest televisions to the public. Someone was cunning, translating this concept only on the screen, and some conscientiously tried to "put on a diet" both the case and the panel itself.

Let's try to figure out how this happened and how things are today, identifying along the way the best models of past years and choosing the thinnest TV in the world.

Many manufacturers of this kind of technology have focused on the quality of the picture and the increase in resolution. Someone brought the functionality of the models to perfection, adding some new options and original "chips". Well, someone came up with the idea to reduce the thickness of the TV, and here he made the right decision. This decision became a kind of breath of fresh air for the consumer: he saw a miracle and wanted to buy it, which, of course, played into the hands of the developer company. The methods were different, but the result exceeded all expectations. So let's get started ...

2007 year

The device of that time did not differ in minimalism and small dimensions, in particular. The thinnest 32-inch TV was a kind of carcass 10 centimeters or more thick with massive frames around the screen.

The engineers of the Toshiba brand were the first to challenge the device profile by constructing a model that was very attractive for those times. The XF550 was the thinnest TV at 32, with a bezel thickness of only 2 cm, which was a real breakthrough.

For other manufacturers, this value began at least 5 cm. And this despite the fact that "Toshiba" used a conventional and very bulky CCFL-backlight on fluorescent lamps. This model became a pioneer in its field, followed by the familiar LCD and LED solutions.

2008 year

A further initiative was taken up by the Japanese designers of the Sony company. They figured it out and realized that making the thinnest CCFL-backlit TV would not work. Therefore, the entire fluorescent unit was replaced with a more attractive solution in the form of LEDs, which were placed on the sides of the device, and a special light guide plate was located in the back.

By and large, this option became the prototype of modern LED LCDs. In 2008, Sony introduced its thinnest wall-mounted TV, the Sony ZX1, to the market. The thickness of the panel was only 9.9 mm, which was simply striking in its impossibility. The model became widely in demand, but lost its fuse when numerous competitors flooded the market with similar solutions.

year 2009

Ironically, the thinnest TV set from Sony was not remembered and simply sunk into oblivion. And in 2009, Samsung engineers took this idea into service and, after completing it, released the B series (6000, 7000, 8000) with a similar side illumination.

The devices became noticeably thinner, and the thickness of the case did not exceed 3 cm. It was they who really stunned the technology market: each company seeks to introduce into its solutions ultra-thin Edge LED developments, which were patented by Samsung.

The secret of the brand's models' success was also in the fact that such a loud, and somewhere even aggressive advertisement was made for them that only the blind and deaf did not know about this innovation. Samsung, with its thinnest TVs, has introduced the concept of LED TV. Since that time, this thoroughly mistaken phrase has firmly stuck not only in the minds of users, but also equipment sellers.

In fact, the term LED TV can and should denote LED devices like giants from the LED company, and TVs with LCD equipment and LED backlighting do not fall into this topic at all. And many consumers believe that LED TV is a modern type of device close to the OLED class, which is wrong in principle. This magic combination helped to give the old LCD models a new wrap, as well as increase their sales - a very good publicity stunt for Samsung.

2010 year

Next, Panasonic engineers took over the baton. In 2010, the thinnest plasma device was presented at the exhibition as a prototype with a thickness of only 8.8 mm. In second place, with a small margin, with its TV (one millimeter thinner) is the Pioneer.

But by the will of fate, the prototypes remained as such, and the plasma models of the Z1 series turned out to be on the conveyor, and the thickness of the devices was already 24.7 mm, which is not much thinner than the same devices from Samsung. Plasma TVs from Panasonic has suffered the same sad story as happened with Sony devices. They were simply forgotten in the light of Samsung's aggressive advertising with its LED TV.

2013 to the present

At CES 2013, LG unveiled its brand new 55-inch OLED prototype that is just 4mm thick. And although the thinnest LG TV made a lot of hype in the press, the model reached the conveyor only a year later. But at the same time, it retained one of its critical characteristics - an ultra-thin panel.

The factory version of the series - the LG 55EA980V model, received an exceptionally thin panel of 4.3 mm, which is an absolute record not only for its segment, but also for other technologies. The ultra-thin shape is made possible precisely by the OLED subsystem. Such panels, built on the synergy of LEDs and organics, do not need any kind of external illumination at all: each individual pixel is its own light source.

The best of the best

Thus, devices from LG, built on OLED technology, hold the bar as the thinnest TVs to date. This is if we take into account the serial production model, and not some millimeter prototypes.

They are followed by LCD devices from Sony with their also sensational X90C series. The latter were presented at CES in 2016, have an ultra-high resolution screen and a thickness of 4.9 mm. It was very difficult for the brand to achieve such an indicator on LCD panels, but the engineers did their best, and the models found their consumer, moreover, numerous.

Summarizing

In general, the concept of "thickness" for the TV sounds somehow twofold. Is it really so important if, for example, its indicator does not exceed the five millimeters mark? This parameter is unlikely to seriously affect the performance of the devices. Moreover, most ultra-thin models are characterized by a fly in the ointment in the face of uneven illumination. Here, by and large, there is a race between brands for loud headlines that would attract a buyer.

Judging by user reviews, the average owner of such a "miracle" simply does not feel the practicality and the difference between the same 5 and 50 mm, because a desktop stand or a bracket with commutation will be added to any profile, and all this thickness becomes simply false.

Here, rather an aesthetic role plays, where new technologies like a magnet attract the glances of potential buyers, which, in turn, plays into the hands of the manufacturers of these devices, as well as the enrichment companies based on different know-how "chips".

Over the past few years, bulky TVs and monitors have been replaced by modern models - thin liquid crystal LCD or LED, which actually differ only in screen backlight technology. However, the dimensions in thickness and power consumption of LED-backlit screens are still somewhat smaller.

As a representative of the new generation, we can name the LG 60LB870V model, which has been produced since 2014. This LED Angle LED TV is only 35mm thick. The Samsung UE55H7000, which also went on sale in 2014, is also a TV of the same type and is even thinner at 32 mm. In fact, this is the limit for liquid crystal technology (LED), which uses an additional light source located behind the matrix.

OLED (organic light emitting diode) technology has opened up new perspectives in the creation of high and ultra high resolution thin screens. The thickness of an OLED screen is an order of magnitude smaller than that of TVs and monitors based on LED backlighting. LG has mastered the release of a series of OLED TVs, clearly demonstrating what the TV will be like in the near future. From the serial products available to consumers since the end of 2014, we can cite the example of the LG 55EC930V TV with a thickness of only 4.3 mm. The price of OLED TVs is quite high, but already has a downward trend.

OLED screens are distinguished by excellent color reproduction, large viewing angles, high contrast, brightness and light weight. Subjectively, the picture quality on OLED TVs surpasses that offered by plasma screens. If we talk about technical parameters, the technology is completely superior to plasma and LED in all criteria, except for the price. However, the technology is new, it is developing rapidly, so the cost reduction of such TVs is not far off.

At the Seoul show, LG unveiled a prototype of the world's thinnest 55-inch OLED TV. Its weight is only about 2 kg. At the same time, the thickness of the device is such that 10 TVs stacked on top of each other form a stack with a height of only 1 centimeter, that is, one prototype has a thickness of less than 1 mm. A magnetic sticker the size of a screen placed on the wall was used to attach it. Such a screen can be bent to create a comfortable viewing environment and provide designers and designers with ample opportunities for creativity.

LG is planning to launch the serial production of the screen used in the exhibition model in the near future. By the end of 2015, LG is going to release up to 600 thousand OLED-displays, and in 2016 - to make one and a half million screens for its own needs and sale to other companies.
