HTC One vs Samsung Galaxy S4: comparison and choice

Samsung unveiled its latest Galaxy S IV in March and went on sale at the end of April. Despite the fact that this model is not full of surprises, the S4 is still crammed to the brim with innovations from Google and Samsung.

This is definitely a serious flagship Android phone. But did Samsung developers do everything to bypass HTC once again? We decided to compare the Galaxy S4 with the HTC One and see which model is better.

If you look at the specifications of both devices, you can easily notice that they are similar in many ways. Both have powerful quad-core processors and crisp 1080p displays, but there are also a few notable differences.

Screen

The SGS4 has a larger five-inch screen that is larger than the 4.7-inch display of the HTC One, which means the latter has a higher pixel density per inch.

Samsung has decided to continue the tradition of Super AMOLED technology, which is praised for its incredibly high contrast, but at the same time noted for its inaccurate color reproduction and the PenTile subpixel rendering engine, which causes some "dotted" text. HTC has taken the equally successful Super LCD (IPS) technology, which, while lacking AMOLED contrast, offers more accurate color reproduction. At such high resolutions, it is difficult to notice a significant difference in clarity and sharpness on both models.

CPU

HTC uses a quad-core 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor. Its competitor is powered by Samsung's own Exynos 5 Octa 5410 processor, which includes four high-performance 1.6GHz Cortex-A15 cores and four energy-efficient Cortex-A7 cores clocked at 1. 2 gigahertz. In some markets, the Galaxy S4 will come in a different performance: its "heart" will be the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 with a clock speed of 1.9 GHz and an Adreno 320 graphics chip.

In benchmarks, the Galaxy S4 is slightly (no more than 10%) ahead of the One. However, both devices cope with any task with ease and at high speed.

Assembly and construction

The most significant and significant difference between the two models under consideration is the quality of their assembly. Samsung has opted for the same plastic case construction that was criticized in its products last year and earlier as cheap and somewhat ill-conceived. HTC has a clear advantage here with its one-piece aluminum chassis.

The Samsung device retains the microSD card slot and removable battery, making the S III a hit last year. The S4 is thinner and lighter - thanks to the same plastic case for that.

Software filling

More and more Android mobile phone manufacturers are trying to stand out with unique software and customization. Samsung's flagship is equipped with the TouchWiz software system, while HTC uses. While none of these UIs are particularly popular with Android enthusiasts, they do come with several important features.

Samsung is offering email previews as well as Dual Camera to take photos and videos at the same time, while HTC unveiled its BlinkFeed content aggregator. Both devices also offer universal remote control, for this they have their own applications with which you can use your phone as a TV remote.

Camera

The last but not least point of difference between the models is the cameras.

Samsung has again decided to take the path of increasing megapixel by equipping its new model with a 13 megapixel camera. But, as you already know, it is the camera that HTC relies on in its flagship. The camera's resolution is technically only 4 megapixels, but the size of these pixels is much larger, which means the quality of images in low light is better. Examples of obtained photographs for self-comparison are in the TechnoBuffalo article.

We made a comparison of user interfaces for working with the camera in.

conclusions

Both models are quite worthy to be called flagships, so the final choice will be yours: Samsung or HTC. Let's list the strengths of One: a camera (a modern person often has to shoot in the dark), loud and high-quality stereo speakers, an aluminum premium body.
